On30 is possibly one of the smartest nicest ways to do a model railway. Nice how stone dust is used. Seems like a lot of smart modeling going on here. I'm surprised Netflix hasn't picked up on a series that investigates the hidden gem major layouts that never get seen at shows. I know there is some serious hardcore layouts under houses and in sheds that are in essence secret jewels of this hobby.
G'day Will, a fantastic labour of love too his Dad, a wonderful layout will never be finished as things could be added for ever, thanks for the video, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Will, great report on what looks like a fantastic layout. Thank you for sharing with us, the NMRA visits are very worthwile, and usually lots of knowledge is shared. Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Great work, so very evocative of this fascinating corner of the Victorian Railway system. I live in Gellibrand, the main intermediate station between Colac and Beech Forest. As a result I'm slightly disappointed that Gelli station with its four roads doesn't feature, especially since we've recently renovated the old station booking office beside the old station site. That said, of course you can't cover everything within a confined space, and as a well-conceived snapshot of the line this is an absolutely brilliant effort. It will be great to see it develop in the future.
I would have liked to have Gellibrand, but only if I could do justice to it. Now, my wife's garage is next door and if you can convince her to give up her space....
Wonderful video! I’ve read a lot about this line, and layout, and have even done the trail many years ago when I was in that region. I’ve also enjoyed photos I’ve seen of this layout, however to see a video of the layout in action with those nice locos (That Garratt 🤤) is next level!
Such a wonderful layout, really beautiful and so functional. The light filtering through the trees was perfect. I love the idea of using real dirt and gravel to add such realism. Thank you for the video. 😊👍
This is phenomenal, Will! A credit to Mick and his late father by far. And it’s DCC sound too which is even better! I love the depiction of the Beyer Garratts too which were at home on the old Beechie. I kind of wished G41 was also saved alongside G42. Imagine that eh? G42 and G41 double heading. Well, at one point we did see double Garratts on PBR, it shouldn’t matter that it was one Aussie Garratt and one South African Garratt hehe 😉. Give me double garratts any day! I love the animals and all the details too! Mick’s missus is very talented. Absolutely loved the video man! And so sorry I didn’t catch you at the BRMA Convention, we’re soooo busy with getting the house ready for sale. Hope you all had an awesome weekend! Keep well, my main man! Regards, Caleb and Sue xx
Caleb, the two Garratts never double headed as the bridges were considered incapable of taking the concentrated weight of them together. G41 once failed at Beech Forest and had to be rescued, but it was brought back to Colac for repair by 14A at the end of a train, to spread the load.
The tender loco is a Lawley, owned by Rod Hutchison, who will eventually tell you about it. He also owns the little Krauss loco that was visiting. Both are battery/RC.

Nice video Will. Mick's layout is one of the best On30 layouts I have seen. I like the use of real materials being used for the scenery.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I might have to make a trip out there and have a look at the restored station!

Thank you mate, Micks really done a great job here! I'm pretty keen to get out and check out what's left of the railway!

What's that cute little tender loco seen at 1.59?
Top video as usual, by the way.

That is one fantastic looking layout! It looks like everyone involved has done a wonderful job. Nice video mate
