    I like to think that Rose and Bernard remembered everything right from the moment they were on the plane at the beginning of the flash sideways. That they didn't need a big built up moment because they were so at peace together for so many years. Fits with Rose telling Jack he can "let go" at the start of season 6, and Bernard being really chill about the bizarre situation when Jack comes asking about Locke's past. And the really heartfelt "I missed you" from Rose on the plane.

    I have never appreciated the LOST finale. Certainly not when it aired back then. I can even say I was one of those who hated it and was not too shy to tell everybody who saw LOST that I loved the first couple of seasons but was deeply disappointed by the finale. Ever since my Dad suddenly died last year, I have watched multiple reaction channels react to LOST and I have found profound peace in the once hated finale. I did not understand back then, but I understand now. Once you have lost someone you hope that it all works out this way. That there is a place, beyond time, where those who have shared your life with you will be waiting and you move on from your journey to the next one. Together. LOST made me believe in that and I want to thank Hogwarts and all the other LOST reactors for bringing me closer to where I am finally at peace with my father's passing. I am so grateful for that! One love.

    Some of them died on the island, some (Kate, Sawyer, Claire etc) escaped and probably lived full lives. When they died, they reunited in purgatory. Everyone experienced it at different times as seen when Juliet says "we can go Dutch", which is what she said as she was dying. She was experiencing the end. It's really not that confusing. None of the ones in the Church died in the plane crash. So many people seem to struggle with the finale and it always mystifies me how they can get so confused when its literally made explicitly clear.

    • @Volvagia0slayer
      @Volvagia0slayer 4 года назад +8

      Great explanation, but one minor quibble: the flash-sideways is a very different thing from purgatory. Purgatory is a place that only certain people go to. Presumably everyone goes to the flash-sideways as they're dying. Purgatory is a place of punishment to free a person of their sins. The flash-sideways is a place of self-reflection and learning to let go. Only one religion gets into purgatory. Any religion can go to the flash-sideways. Purgatory is an afterlife realm. The flash-sideways exists between life and the afterlife. You could argue that this is semantics and splitting hairs, but when the only thing purgatory and the flash-sideways have in common is that they're a holding place for people before they move on into the afterlife, it makes the purgatory comparison weak since Earth could also be considered a holding place for people before they move on into the afterlife. So if Earth, the flash-sideways, and purgatory all share the same similarities, it's important to distinguish each of them.

    • @TECfan1

    About Eloise, I figured she didn't want Desmond to mess with stuff because she didn't want *Daniel* to remember. She wanted him to stay with her in the reality where she didn't kill him in a timeloop. She was obviously already 'awake', she just wanted to stay there.

    • @timegentleman
      @timegentleman 4 года назад +18

      Yeah, she just wanted a bit more time having some positive family time with him (and presumably Charles) - she and Charles did a lot of bad stuff so they need longer to work through it.

    • @SamuelDJCox
      @SamuelDJCox 4 года назад +3

      I have just realised why Sleepy Hannah is a bit confused regarding Eloise.
      Since they watched the Cut Version, it didn't contain the scene between Desmond and Eloise where you can come to understand or at least guestimate what her motives are. That's actually a really great moment which humanises her just for a few seconds. It's not her being "evil", you can tell what's driving her is that she's just terrified that Desmond would wake EVERYONE up and break apart this perfect little fantasy world wherein she can finally get to live a proper life with the son whose life she ruined. I imagine that in the end Eloise finally has her 'awakening' at the moment Daniel does an act of love/kindness for her or he forgives her in some way. He's already awake now so I think he'd end up being a second Desmond of sorts who would help each of them remaining - maybe he helps Miles and his dad remember, maybe he needs to help Charlotte find whatever it is she needs to make her finally have her 'awakening' - clearly just meeting Daniel wasn't enough? In any case, I imagine that Daniel, Eloise, Charlotte, Miles, Dr. Chang, Lapidus? Widmore? and maybe several others we didn't see yet in the sideways or we didn't know at all - they all moved on finally together once they were ready...

    • @YodatheHobbit

      Yep, another scene consisting of the missing important character arcs from the cut up version of the finale. It's rage inducing that ABC has the nerve to remove that stuff. And also they never got to see Daniel and Charlotte meet in the sideways. GUH!

    • @Volvagia0slayer
      @Volvagia0slayer 4 года назад +9

      Agreed. I was thrilled that he got it. And not only did he get it, but he did some much deeper analysis than I expected, correctly pointing out that the flash-sideways could have been filled with the collective consciousnesses of everyone from the island, OR it could have been just Jack's personal post-death transition state. Both technically work (though I think there's more evidence supporting the former).

    • @EACru2002
      @EACru2002 3 года назад

      Actually proud of the fact that he actually did end up figuring it out, and largely mostly on his own too when he was talking it out. Brian didn't have to guide him much at all like I thought he might have to originally, Jeremy mostly got there on his own. I think the only downside is that I think it didn't really all "click" into place until after, in the discussion, rather than during the viewing, so I think a lot of the ending minutes or so, the total emotional impact was a little lessened because he (and Hannahs) were still half confused. Like I think they intuitively were following it (well maybe not Sleepy Hannah lol) but they weren't 100% sure so they weren't 100% fully emotionally invested in the scene with Jack dying on the Island and the group in the sideways moving on. To be fair to them though, I think a lot of people were like that when they first watched the show. Almost everyone I know, even folks that loved the ending, say that the ending was more impactful the second time they watched it because they weren't in that half confused state and could just fully experience the emotional journey.

    Eloise didn't want Desmond to move on because she thought they would take Daniel too. The afterlife is the only timeline where she has her son and didn't end up killing him so SHE wasn't ready to move on.
    Side note:
    One of the reasons she seemed to know everything up until she spoke to Penny in L.A hospital (S5) was because she was using Daniel's notebook which ended when he died 30 years earlier.

    I can understand not liking the finale, even though I love it, but to this day I'm baffled by how many people didn't understand it. It's such simple concept and explained so clearly by Christian that in our hour we jokingly call exposition like that the dumb dumb talk because they explain everything so clearly like we're too dumb to understand. But so may people didn't understand it. I guess some people just can't wrap their brain around the idea of an existence where time doesn't exist. That's my best hypothesis.

    • @Volvagia0slayer
      @Volvagia0slayer 4 года назад +5

      I think that for most people it wasn't even that deep. Because of the nature of Lost and its constant twists and turns, I think most people who didn't understand the ending went into the finale expecting some series-redefining twist. So when Christian said everyone was dead, that was their confirmation bias. They shut off their ears or brain and just accepted that everyone being dead the whole time was the series-redefining twist that they had been expecting from the episode. And the plane wreckage in the credits did nothing to dissuade them from thinking that.

    • @Melancthon7332
      @Melancthon7332 4 года назад +1

      I think a lot of it had to do with most people tuning in to the finale without regularly watching the rest of the show. When the viewership started dropping back in season 2, and importantly, before the rise of streaming services (NF was still a disc-by-mail service at the time), those people just never caught up, either watching an episode now and then or just stopping altogether. People will tune into a big series finale as an Event, though, and I'm sure that the large majority of the people who watched it live had not seen the whole show up to that point.

    I like to think that the main characters we didn’t get to see in the church had a different group of people they moved on with. Their time on the island wasn’t “the most important part of your life.” Even if it probably had more to do with scheduling and disagreements (for Eko at least)

    • @UGLYP1G
      @UGLYP1G 4 года назад +7

      In Eko's case, no doubt the "most important part" of his life was the time spent with his brother when they were kids, before everything went to shit... which is why that was his "sideways". We saw that when he died, we just didn't know what it meant at the time.

    Concerning Jin and Sun's daughter not being there: Christian said, "The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That's why all of you are here."
    He didn't say "The most important people in your life." He said the "most important part of your life." It's easy to believe the part of their lives connected to crashing, leaving, and returning to the island were the most important parts of their lives. Sun and Jin's daughter wasn't really part of that. She will have her own important parts of her life with different people that will populate her "here" when she passes away.

    • @SamuelDJCox
      @SamuelDJCox 4 года назад +8

      Spot on! It's a metaphysical place created out of the desires of people just in their last seconds of death. While it may be one second in our world, it's days and weeks in the sideways, it's happening just as Boone breathes his last breaths as Jack tries to save him, it's happening as Shannon dies in Sayid's arms, as Charlie drowns, etc. etc. in each of their final moments they gathered to put to rest whatever was going to prevent them from passing peacefully; so yes for most the main characters they found solace and beauty in what connections they had found in one another despite never finding peace with the tragic lives they had lived to that point. They pretty much had nothing in the real world, but at least their time together on the island gave them some last hope and grace so they could leave this life and not just be figuratively stuck, or dying without feeling any purpose.
      I love the idea that we all have moments and people in our lives that we all wish could be there to help guide us in our final moments. I'm sure each of our main characters had other loved ones ie. family members who they would be reunited with once they pass into the bright light... or at least that's what we can all hope. Just because we don't see it doesn't mean we can't believe it, right? So yeah, I personally love it.
      The story was always about how these strangers who could have just been strangers on a plane actually were forced into a situation through the plane crash to be the better people they had always needed to be. It's no different to how we all walk past strangers in our everyday lives who we never open ourselves up to, to how we go about feeling lost and lonely at times despite all the strangers we pass maybe feeling the same.
      So we all ultimately walk around unable to bring ourselves to be the better person, and we all (or at least many of us) just continue living our unfulfilled lives, letting others also feel the same unfulfillment.
      So, the island represents the test that we all as a society could use - to jolt us out of our sleep-walking and recognise the heroes we can be to ourselves and to one another.
      That experience and that part of their humanity ultimately showed them and us the meaning of life. It's what the whole show is about!

    I’m so glad they removed the broken plane in the beach at the end after the original airing. I blame the inclusion of that for many people’s misunderstanding. I remembering being, “wait, WHAT?” when it aired, because it seemed to negate everything Christian said. I think I chose to just ignore it?
    I also think this is one of the first series to have a reputation that suffered because fans got too into their own theories in online discussions/breakdowns, and then we weren’t satisfied with what was put out because we thought our own ideas were better/more interesting. I hope people who felt that way then have rewatched it all since and been able to appreciate it for what it is, because it’s beautiful.

    Well this journey with you has been lovely. I’ve rewatched Lost over the last month for the first time since it aired and so it’s been nice to then experience it with you. I really don’t think Lost gets enough credit for how good it is and how satisfying the ending is if you really think about everything it’s saying about life, love, and friendship and the importance of those in our lives. Them all coming together to move on to whatever comes after death together gets me every time. This finale makes me cry more than any other television episode and that’s down to just how well these characters have been crafted. And the end with Jack, bookending the show is beautiful, especially as Vincent ensures he doesn’t die alone.

    Eloise wasn’t the devil, she was special.. when Faraday told her that she is his mom! We assume she dedicated her life and started a journey to maintain the correct course of events that will happen, for example ( telling Desmond to go to the island and end up pushing the button ) whatever reason she cared to maintain this chain of events, it ended up killing the Man in Black, which is the ultimate goal. Jacob was stepping in through people’s actions to maintain the correct course of events, on the other hand, Man in Black was stepping in directly, for example ( by telling John to move the Island ), Jacob’s “apostles” were doing stuff with faith and believe alone(which is Jacob’s way of interfering and inspiration) , without knowing what the end result will be.

    I really LOVED the series finale (which was not a popular opinion back in 2010, or even now... a decade later). Because I am all about the journey with any show that I watch. The journey was AMAZING! And I fucking love the parallels between the pilot and the finale and all the scenes in-between, its catnip for me. I love seeing a journey come full circle. That type of storytelling is just BRILLIANT!
    What happened, happened. It ALL mattered. They needed each other, to move on and let go ❤

I can only assume he didn't want to face the others, given his actions on the island, so he probably slipped off on his own. Assuming Walt ends up replacing Hurley as the new 'Jacob,' I suppose it's plausible that he's still alive long after all the others have died, which can be the only explanation as to why he wasn't also there to move on with the others. And it's plausible that Eko moved on with his brother instead, given the last image of them as kids in his last flashback. As Desmond said, Ana Lucía wasn't ready to move on yet, à la Ben and Eloise. And let's face it -- Nikki and Paulo weren't there purely because of their lack of popularity among the fans.

It's been really nice to relive a show that held a special place for me 10 years ago. While it's normal to overthink about some the specific stuff after watching the finale eg. what is exactly the flashsideways, why is aaron a baby, where's ji yeon, they created this world together but why is ana lucia and others there too and didnt move on, what is up with Eloise, etc. But as the years go by, we get less bothered by those little things and remember the great message the show/ending has about coming to terms with life and death, about togetherness and community, forgiveness and redemption, and all of that.

    Eloise was concerned Desmond would help Daniel move on, leaving her behind. Compared to pretty much everyone else in the sideways, she seemed to have grown the least, and also had some of the biggest issues from her life to deal with, including directing her son's life in order for him to die at the right time and place. Therefore, she probably was in no way ready to move on, and didn't want to be left alone. Daniel had a partial "moment" after seeing Charlotte, but didn't remember everything. He just knew something was up. But he hadn't been able to find Charlotte (possibly because Eloise was interfering), so they hadn't had their full "moment," allowing them to move on.

      Ana Lucia in the flash sideways also didn't show much (or any) growth. She's still feeling the guilt of murdering the guy who had shot her and she's not ready to move on. (The really tragic thing about that is in the original time line, she had gotten on the plane from Sydney to LA to head back home and fess up to the murder but the plane crashed and she never got the chance.)

    This is my personal interpretation of how the flash sideways works and I think it could explain why Aaron is a newborn here despite him having grown up (at least to the toddler that we saw). Even though Christian told Jack that he and the people he spent on the island “created” this, I believe everyone who ever lived (on island and off island) each went through their own unique post-death “moving on” experience. Since “there is no now Here”, the laws of time don’t apply and there could be an infinite number of parallel Sideways universes for each person when they die, where they each are the final person to “remember” before moving on. There could be a Sideways where Aaron is an adult and he sees Claire and Kate as elderly women (if they lived that long). Sayid might have a Sideways where he IS with Nadia at the end. The Sideways that we see in Season 6 just happens to be the one that Jack experiences because he is the main character of the show. In these parallel Sideways, some of the same characters might have Remembrances that occur differently than the way that we see it in Jack’s. But once everyone “moves on” and light envelops everyone, maybe all of those Sideways converge and everyone remembers everything that happened across all of them. Then everyone is at peace and their souls rest.
    It’s a lot to think about and there probably are some holes in that theory but I try not to think too hard about it. I love this finale so much.

    I've left a similar comment/observation on other reactions but - at about 10:40 when Jack is dying on the Island and it keeps cutting back and forth between him and everyone gathering in the church in the flash sideways, it looks like Jack is seeing into the afterlife and seeing the reunion in the church as he is dying. He lays down and kind of smiles as he looks up at the sky.
    And everyone taking their seats in the church preparing to "move on" is like they're all taking their seats in the airplane as it's getting ready to take off. And then, on the island Jack sees the actual plane, with his friends inside, take off and "move on". So, it's as if Jack is seeing himself and his friends move on in the church.
    And the idea that Jack is seeing into the afterlife/flash sideways makes sense because we also know that the same thing happened to Juliet - when she was dying in Sawyer's arms and said "we should go dutch" etc.
    (Also, in the church a "shepherd" named Christian with white hair leads them on while in the real world a white haired Pilot flies them off the island.)

    It's crazy to me that the finale will have aired 10 years ago next month and people still question whether what they watched actually happened or not even when it is explicitly stated to them by Christian, that yes it did indeed happen. It seems to me that any show or movie that has a non-linear timeline and requires even the slightest amount of thought on the audience's behalf is met with confusion. All that being said, no matter how many times I've watched this series all the emotional beats,big or small, still kill me. My favorite remembrance scene is definitely Sawyer and Juliet mostly 'cuz of the way they tie it back to that scene in the S6 premiere. It took me a long time after LOST ended to find a series that made me care about the characters the way this show did. This show will always remain my favorite show of all-time not just because of its story and characters, but because of the way it fundamentally changed the way I thought about what a series could be and what it could do. So for that,I will forever be indebted to LOST ( whatta ridiculous but true thing to say)...also to take this journey with the 4 of you was lots of fun and I hope whatever you guys do next will be just as rewarding. My understanding when i watched the finale was they tricked us into thinking that the flash sideways were the result of the hydrogen bomb going off and changing things, but it was actually a place they created in death to find each other so they can move on together. Im very happy with their reaction, they didn't fall in "they were dead the whole time" bs that so many people thought and really hated that. I suspected Jeremy surprisingly was not gonna hate it because his biggest issue in the season 5 finale was that all the stuff on the island didn't matter because they could just change everything, which is untrue but a huge spoiler until now.

    After their deaths, the characters wanted or needed to live out their lives again, making different choices based on what they had learned in their real life, how much they had "progressed" so to speak. Like Jacob told his brother, "It only ends once, everything that happens before that, it's just progress."
    It is the only way to put their inner demons at rest. Locke for example, freeing himself from fate granting him a miracle, and instead accepting his condition, choosing to get better on his own, with the help of Jack. Most died when had an inner realization, an epiphany, when they had fulfilled some purpose for themselves or for others. But the only way to truly put their souls at rest, so to speak, was to redo their lives, to forget and do again, and maybe choose again differently. And we saw most of them better adjusted to their inner turmoils.
    The Flashsideways is the metaphysical progression of their own psychological evolution, from flashbacks to flashforwards to the afterlife purgatory.

    Been loving these reactions, sad to see the show end. Hoping for more reactions of other shows. :)

    Thank you so much for these reactions! Lost is one of the best TV experiences in history no matter what you think of the ending. It was great watching you all go through it. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I would LOVE a FRINGE reaction series with Hogwarts and all of you! There's some amazing stuff in that series and some emotional character development that would be ideal for reactions! Fringe and Lost are two of my favorite shows of all time, but honestly Fringe tops my list. (It's a really close call, though, tbh.) Looking forward to whatever series (fringe) you decide to react to (fringe) next! (fringe fringe fringe fringe fringe) 💗💗

    Initially it’s a little confusing but once you understand everything, it’s a great ending.

    Thank you to Hogwarts and all the crew for putting this together. The last year (!) has been a great ride, especially during these dark times. Your videos were always the highlight of my week. I implore you guys to check out Battlestar Galactica (2004). I think it might fill Lost's shoes.

    Oh Hugo....'take care of people'.....OMG Ben & John outside of the church....Brian laughing at Jeremy...'There is no now here' Hugo lifting Jack up in the church....Vincent didn't let Jack die alone....cry cry cry. So many tears this episode, I was a mess. Brian, "I'm sensing questions" lmao Watching Sleepy Hannah looking back & forth with just her eyes, it was like, I'm still skeptical. You guys are the best! I had a lot of fun with Lost & the 4 of you, you rock! What's next? What will you watch next? Do you like vampires? How about True Blood? I started it again last week, already on season 2!

    Thank you Brian! For the amazing edits and hard work. Appreciated seeing another reaction of this show. Not surprised some didn’t like it. Hope you all react to new season of Westworld.

    I watched parts of my favorite episodes with you guys today. I saw the last season in real time as it aired. Amazing! The story to me is "an English major's wet dream" because of all of the plot lines and character development. To me - the group on Oceanic Flight 815 spent the best years and experiences of their lives during their time on the island. One of my favorite scenes is S3E1 - the book club, Juliet and the Others town relieved. The characters - throughout the series grew together and became less selfish and more giving of themselves. It is impossible to watch LOST for the first time again - thank you for letting me do that through your group. This is a great RUclips video explaining it all. - ruclips.net/video/YaDeJCT4ejY/видео.html
