This was such a strong analysis of Adam as a character, even more so because you were able to interweave your own experiences. The way you engage with these books is truly brilliant and I can't wait for your upcoming videos of the re-read.
Totally agree about everything you said! It’s so wild reading them and knowing none of them remember Noah like at all. And I thought trauma was handled well… surprised people are mad about it, but there’s so many opinions on such a subject, so I guess that makes sense. Can’t wait for Greywaren. Caaaaant wait.
Thank you! 🙏💕 Yeah with the abuse and trauma everyone is going to have strong opinions, as with other sore subjects. It makes me glad you're excited too!! October is soon! 😭
I was so happy when I saw how long this video was and loved every second of it. I could listen to people analyze this series all day, but it's so much more when when you know the person doing it is as passionate as you are about it. I also really appreciate the Adam breakdown. I have always loved him so much as a character from the very start for many reasons, but one is that it helped me understand and empathize with people who are in a situation like that. I feel that maybe without Adam being so raw and real of a character, I may have been one of those people who just never understood why they didn't just leave or waited so long to say something or etc instead of someone who gets furious when I see people toss words like that around so casually and also seeing how damaging that is. Obviously all of that is intensely personal, he's not real, and not everyone will react the same, but I feel his character allowed me to see at least one example of why and help me empathize with others who's experiences are so vastly different from my own that their behavior seems incomprehensible and just try to listen and learn rather than judge.
Thank you again for all the comments but this very much! I feel a lot of feelings about the Raven Cycle for multiple reasons, some more personal then others. Adam especially means a lot to me and I enjoyed so much to be able to talk about him for half an hour, so I'm glad you enjoyed in and it made me very glad that he's had that impact on how you see his experiences - fiction and real life. That's the best part of reading! it can be both an escape from reality and something really valuable and something you grow from. Ah, I just love Maggie's writing so much!
@@obviouslyqueer Me too. I've gotten rid of almost all of the young adult I used to love (I still read it, I just don't tend to keep hold of it), but not a single one of her books. The Raven Cycle is probably my favorite, even overriding nostalgia I have for the Shiver/Linger/Forever books, which were some of the first young adult I ever read. I agree about fiction! I think it's almost easier since you're already engaged and don't realize what you may be learning about.
@@toriwork8891 right! I have actually yet to read the Shiver series, but I absolutely love All The Crooked Saints, and really enjoyed Scorpio Races as well
You make such great points about trauma, for those who can't relate to a character like him. You really describe the emotional complexity that Maggie wrote well in my opinion.
Thanks a lot, that makes me glad to hear. The theme of Adam and his trauma is (as you can tell hehe) a subject I care deeply about. So thank you so much for your comment 💕
I hate that Gansey gets seen as such a morally superior and generous friend when he literally says poor people cant love their children like the elitist he is, and victim blames Adam all the time. I think the victim blames should be in the book but I wish his friends would realize over time that they are wrong to do this! Otherwise it looks like thats what friends are supposed to do, as if theyre helping him, and I despise that. I LOVE HOW YOU TALK ABOUT ADAM AND RELATE SO MUCH
God Im realizing more and more what a terrible "self absorbed but hypocritical about it" -person Gansey is and I hate that the fandom likes him it makes me feel sick. Especially since the book isnt selfaware of what a hypocrite Gansey is and he never has to realize his wrongs and still gets adored by everyone as such a great friend and responsible leader with zero consequences

I loved this, someone talking on and on about the raven cycle for like 30 minutes straight…❤️🔥 pure magic
Thank you so much 😭💕

I loved the video; where can I find Maggie’s art? I’m interested in seeing how she actually intended the characters to look like.
Thank you so much!
