This and "The Eternal" from Closer are two of the most bleak and desolate songs ever written. I've never heard anything like this before. JD captured the darkness ever present in our lives like no other.
+David Davidson reminds me of lyrics in true faith's hook line i wonder if it had a influence, known or not while they were writing true faith, interesting, thanks for the lyrics, he's a bit hard to understand here

Prefer this version to the normal Joy Division version (the 5.5 minute rehearsal). Ian's unfinished lyrics and vocal delivery is far creepier and it spans almost 10 minutes!
Sold his soul. Hypnotised Ian into killing himself. Hook and Sumner know. Both only two who didn’t go to the wake. Now against each other. Both know the secret
I heard this sans vocal at a Peter Hook & The Light concert at the Electric Ballroom in Camden Town, London this past Sept 28. It was their lead-in before their four-song Joy Division set followed by the NO albums Technique and Republic.
At the same time, I can understand why the band wanted to capture their live sound in studio. From the released live recordings out there - either as a bootleg or official, they have a very energetic vibe that the records simply couldn't, didn't, or replicate.
No Love Lost, Leaders of Men, Shadowplay, so many songs were already fully formed before Martin Hannett. I think Hannett dropped the ball on Unknown Pleasures, live versions were mostly better and even demos are better. Insight recorded in Eden Studios was before they recorded Unknown Pleasures. Closer sounds great with Hannett's production.
I am so grateful that their music exists at the same time that I am alive.

Ian Curtis has one looks like he can see inside your mind.
He could.
and stephen morris looks like he can see something he isnt sure if he likes or not
...can't really understand a word he is saying
like in my mind yes when am not very well
"Walking away from the sun,
Towards any shade we will find,"
-Ian's improvised lyrics here.

@@ShainaKarasik Not sure about that, considering True Faith has more to do with Bernard's drug problem.
Yeah
His lyrics are about death
This sounds timeless, can't stop listening to it
Is it just me or it sounds like something you would play in a funeral
Pretty sure it was intentional on their part for sounding like a dirge.
It was a song made by Ian Curtis, a former band member. He died because of suicide and this was the last song he performed/played.

I don't understand how Bernard can look so different in 1 year after the picture. He always looks different in JD
He did a shit load of coke out of bad coping skills.
when did he meet mrs merton?

@@John_Greek wtf ?😂😂😂
Haunting.
joy division is one of the best things that happened to music
Both share a peerless design
Treading the silence and light
Chasing the shadows of dawn
Pure magic.. R.I.P. Ian Curtis Always in my heart and soul

Unglaublich ...das war die Mucke meiner Jugend ...Danke John Peel
Jesus I can hear Ian's depression....
This is the most desolated song I ever heard! Really love it very much 👍
Listening from SP Brazil.
To date, the darkest song i've ever heard.
Heaven'll be heaven
This band could do no wrong.
Well ...Novelty

@@stevenrevins4663 Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Credits. They did it back in 1973
where do you get these recordings from?
Donde viene incluido?
Ian....ich will zu dir....
besser nicht, du wirst irgendwann eh sterben und niemand kann wissen, ob du ihn wirklich treffen wirst :)
Ian's eyes are piercing.
What a pity Ian died, they could have produced enormous load of great music when together.
Der auf dem Foto da links.... Ian....ich hab das gleiche wie er....hoffe,will ihn endlich sehen!!!....
Epilepsie?
Haunted and haunting. Pity the vocal is so muffled.
morgens um 4h?
Martin Hannett in creative overdrive production, essentially manufacturing the JD sound. Without him, they'd have gotten nowhere.
