  • CHECK OUT IN A LONELY PLACE COMPLETE VERSION MARK SEVEN !!!!!! CONTAINS UNEDITED FULL LENGTH TRACK AND ALSO VERSION SIX WITH ADDITIONS AND OTHER VERSIONS FROM APRIL AND MAY 1980!!!!! in a lonely place, probably the heaviest track in the history of 'rock'. Ian curtis's final and greatest masterpiece, where he tells the world he will soon be dead, the lyrics are told as is if he is already dead, 'caressing the marble and stone', and he even tells us how he is going to do it, 'hangman looks round as he waits 'cord stretches tight then it breaks' . This song has only been available (not counting the superb new order seven inch version) as a 2 and half minuites on heart and soul. Last year a (deliberately messed up) 30 second clip appeared on the net for one day then disappeared. So ive stuck the clip in between two slices of heart and soul, and given it a bit of a spruce up, the result is a flawed but very worthwhile 5 minuites plus version of IALP. I will try to improve the sound quality in coming months . happy listening MARK FOUR NOW UP PROBABLY BEST ONE YET.

    This song is part of a trilogy of Joy Division's most beautiful and haunting songs: 'Atmosphere', 'Decades', and 'In a Lonely Place'. This song being recorded just 4 days before Ian hung himself-making his lyrics even more chilling.

    Absolutely terrifying. I never knew Ian wrote a song where he sang so explicitly about suicide.

    Caressing the marble and stone,
    Love that was special for one,
    The waste in the fever I heat,
    How I wish you were here with me now.
    Body that curls in and dies,
    And shares that awful daylight,
    Warm like a dog round your feet,
    How I wish you were here with me now.
    Hangman looks round as he waits,
    Cord stretches tight then it breaks,
    Someday we will die in your dreams,
    How I wish we were here with you now.

    Yup i had a co worker who was the last person on earth you would think would kill himself. He didn't have depression or any other mental illness that i or anyone else could pick up on. The guy had everything going for him and was certainly not morbid or depressed. One day we said goodbye to each other and cya tomorrow. The next day i went to work everyone was crying and i didn't know what was up. Turns out he went home and shot himself in the head that night. That was a shock to say the least.

    cheers for putting this on mate as a joy division fan since 1978 and having seen them live twice I think I'm qualified to say that it's nice to hear this version even if it's not the full rehearsal version which we will probably never hear .instead of moaning about the why do this and why don't you do that blah blah blah as a joy division fan at least it's good to hear so thanks for taking the time and trouble to actually put it on

    You can't blame them in that way. Of course Ians' situation was awful, and of course they were aware of what was going on with him, but they were just some young boys dealing with a quite tough situation, dealing with a depressed person is not any easy, dude. And I'm quite sure they painfully remember his death everyday. "Pretending not to see his gun.."

    That reminds me.Of the handfull of suicides I've known,none gave any recognizable indication.They were successful in conventional terms,seemed happy enough.A lot of morbid and "mopey" are still going strong.Don't feel bad,the mentally ill are tough.I've worked with them,they've survived what other people can't even imagine.That said,Ian Curtis was a huge loss.

    Bernard once said in interview, that he had no power in changing Ian's decision whether to die or not...guy had it all figured out. he wanted to be dead before 25 and he succeeded. no one really could stop him

    @birdandthe Men & women of very age are self-centered, it's a truth I'm come to learn even more and more as I grow older. As a result, I had to become self-centered myself just to survive. The human race & the times are all a huge disappointment & it leaves me wondering why were even here. Ian Curtis had issues and it's a tragedy that he didn't get the right help, but I can certainly understand some of what he must have been thinking. RIP Ian.

    @ProjectFlashlight612 the band knew he made 2 attempts but probably dident think he would go all the way, promises WERE broken, like the plan to take 6 months off from touring because of his worsening fits, only to organise a tour of the US. Still ian would go on as he dident want to let the side down, bernard especially asked if he was ok and even tried hypnotherapy, gigs in april were well spread and many cancelled but still had a big fit at moonlight and blackouts at derby, tragic.

    @Useless2112 i largely agree, a friend of mine killed himself in the early eighties aged 23, everyone was shocked as he seemed the happiest person out....... to almost everyone......... generally men in their early twenties dont pick up on that, they are mostly self centred. Although In ians case he did have two attempts in three months, the slashed wrist and overdose, maybe more should ahve been done, but ian was a master of disguise, except ironically in his lyrics.

    Not easy to spot?! Not in this case. Curtis made two attempts to kill himself in the last six months of his short life, the first by slashing his wrists and the second in April 1980 via pills, and you're saying there were no signs?! OK, you can't always tell, and Curtis didn't confide in Sumner et al, but the probable reason he *didn't* was that Bernie and co. didn't give a shit. They were ANGRY when he killed himself. Not sad, like friends would be. ANGRY. What does that tell you?

    @DeadSouls6 Oh grow up !! i have head that so many times ' if he hadent killed himself you wouldent like this song ( or joy division so much)' i went to there gigs and bought unknown pleasures as soon as it was released, and so helped the band to keep going, you were still in short trousers, would you even know about joy division in the united states if they had packed it in during 1979 and ian went back to social services ? no, you wouldent.

    @ProjectFlashlight612 I think ur right! I mean Ian tried to be pleasant and crack jokes or whatever and he didnt show signs of melancholy or anthg but come on,I mean listen to his bloody lyrics!!!!Cant u feel the negativity,the despair,the pain???Its fucking obvious!!!!!If they had cared they would have understood...but they were young and in their own world obviously and didnt pay attention...and an angel was gone....:(

  • @birdandthe
    @birdandthe  14 лет назад

    @Paulph04 then where did the 30 seconds extra come from ? when you run out of tape it ends suddenly, what are the odds that hookys tape ran out at 2.30 just before 'hangman ? (as most doubters say) obviously it DIDENT!!!! as the extra words and music prove, so are you now saying the tape ran out at around 3.05 ? after much abuse from different sites the word is there is a full superior quality 5 minuite version which will never be released. so if its never released this is the best.

  • @LoomVideos
    @LoomVideos 14 лет назад

    @DeadSouls6 can someone explain this 30 second business? was it leaked? different to the 2 minute version on still? where did the uploader got the 5:31 version?

  • @birdandthe
    @birdandthe  14 лет назад

    dont waste your time with the 'opposition' versions of this track, all theyve got is the bit of heart and soul and thats it !!! as j.d fans weve already got that, theyve all thrown their dummies out of there prams and blocked me and removed my comments when ive pointed out the simple truth. All they are interested in is collecting points and stopping people from listening to the full song, because they are tiny minded and jealous. happy listening folks.

  • @birdandthe

    Honestly i dont think they were completly insensitive to the whole thing but this song is really fuckin clear in his intentions...but then again new dawn fades the infamous loaded gun segment, he didnt shoot himself...u cannot stop the inevitable. but to be completely surprised i don't know about that so much...but this song is 100% death oriented.whether ian killed himself or not, this song would still sounds like death. if it doesnt then what does it sound like?????

    This is the last song IC recorded, and Sumner and co can claim with a straight face that they had no clue he was going to kill himself?! Don't try and pass that nonsense off as truth, Bernard, especially since you were there at his side when he tried to top himself with pills earlier in 1980. That coulda been seen as a hint of his mood, no? The fact is, his bandmates were not really his pals and simply did not care that he was in pain. Not that they were required to....still callous as hell.
