growing up, I’ve always waxed by hand…not now 😂 I just got me an orbital polisher from harbor freight… gonna be soooo much easier! Thanks!!
Good video, only thing I wish u would have mentioned is the catastrophic effects on paint if when using an orbital sander be sure to keep it moving in different areas of the car and not to leave it in the same spot. Running an orbital buffer more than a couple seconds in the same spot and you'll burn a hole right through the clearcoat and onto the basecoat and that's when those pretty swirl marks appear and you'll be paying a body shop a few grand for a new paint job. I go with a dual action polisher aka, Random Orbital Sander, waaay safer.
Hi Michael, we definitely agree, we're using the Flex XC 3401 VRG Dual Action Orbital Polisher. We prefer it especially for a job like this where the goal is to coat the surface without leaving any marks. But using it with an extra soft polishing pad and you'll be safe in most scenarios!
@@MalcoAutomotive exactly and your on speed 1 and softest pad highly doubt you will damage the clear coat and paint.
i think you get it wrong there, that burn through paint aren't easy to happen with the DA polisher.. its only with the rotary, and its happened to me once.. but not with the DA polisher like in this video, no matter if i full blast it at the same spot for more than 30 second, nothing happen.
Exactly what happened to me! Swirls and this cloudy appearance- like sun damage. Soo upset.
Also the wax isnt particularly abrasive anyway but yeah, just to be extra careful i'll probably apply the wax by hand just to be sure.
Thanks for the tip. I learned how to wax recently I been using applicator pad and done it all by hand but seeing you use the orbital tool it’s a much faster job.
Thanks for the Banana Creme Wax recommendation. I ordered a bottle. It was definitely easy to remove.
Great video! I'm new to detailing and it's hard to wrap my brain around how little product actually has to be used. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Awesome! Welcome to the detailing world! We're glad to be able to help you through our videos and wish you the best of luck in your journey with detailing 🙂
I worked at a volume detailer back in the day that did cars straight from the factory before they went to the dealership. We used DA polishers with foam pads and sealant, and we could coat a car in about five minutes.
gad dam that's my 2024 resolution
Thank you for advising you only need to add one load of liquid wax. I had to use four but I have a Range Rover but it was a lot LOT easier than the amount I was using before!!!!!
Glad that info was helpful to you!
Great video, and thank you for this. I want to get an orbital polisher and am looking for a "beginner" model. One thing - and this shows my ignorance to this subject - I was under the impression the orbiter tool was for removing the wax as well, but with a different pad. Anyhow, thanks for this and I'll give it a shot.
So glad to hear that our video helped so much!
Me too
Whoa a wax tutorial where they don't just show the hood getting waxed? Amazing. Thank you!
I think the default for everyone nowadays is a ceramic coating for everything and honestly I don't like the look of a ceramic coating it gives the car this plastic toy car type look and as durable as they may be they just don't suit every color well and for most do it yourselfers anyway they don't have the time to have their car down several days to do a proper paint correction if they even know how to do it and have the ceramic coating cure properly and not get it wet for a period of time and all that just isn't realistic for the average person doing the work themselves. So this actually seems to appeal to more little IMO.
I just released an update video on this product this morning! I love this wax it is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
Great minds think alike! Thanks for checking out Banana Creme, we love the video!
I'm not hydrophobic. My best friend is hydro.
Pay TheKost 😂😂😂 well done sir
OUTSTANDING DEMO!! MANY THANKS,MALCO AUTOMOTIVE!
Always happy to provide some advice!
An honest how to, well done looks great
you are so polite. every pro I know would never go around a car twice with the same pad. even if they changed nothing else.😉
I notice you are using a DA to apply the wax, but are polishing by hand towel? Is it not possible to use a lambs wool mop on the DA for polishing?
Following
I’m pleased I found this site! I would have cranked my DA up the MAX. I want to use Dr. Colorchip for spot repairs but just got off the phone and she told me I need to wait 30 days for their product to set. She suggested I wax completely, then use rubbing alcohol to clean the areas I want to repair, do the repair, wait 30 days, then rewax with DA. I guess I could gently apply wax by hand over the respires areas, but will wait and DA.
Thanks for the video👍👍👍
Why not use the orbital buffer to remove the wax ?
Hmm
because it’s a bit too rough on the car and you end up undoing what you did. all in all it’s just a better result
I usually polish my car by hand but I'm getting too old for that. I love the applicator he's using on the Malco. I'm wondering where can you get it and is it strictly for the Malco? I've checked the price for the polisher he's using but putting ou that kind of price for just an individual is just too much for me. I'm lucky to polish my car once a year.
Hello, yes the Flex polisher is more of a professional tool or for the enthusiast that is doing frequent work, however for light polishing and wax application needs, you can also use a more consumer grade option such as a Porter Cable Orbital Polisher. If you aren't looking to do heavy cutting, that is a great budget friendly way to get the job done.
Hello I am trying to start a car detailing business and was wondering if after you apply the wax/polish could you buff it with a buffer or does it have to be with a microfiber towel.
Usually a towel
cooked 😭🙏
After I apply wax by machine I usually take the wax off by hand, then I'll go get a microfiber bonnet with a machine for the final shine. My question is can you use an ultra-fine red foam pad to remove wax for the final shine?
Hello, that's an interesting question! You could in theory, but we don't think the pad would be absorbent enough to remove the entire wax layer. It would likely take some off initially, but once the pad loads up with wax it would just end up pushing it around as it did with the application. You'd probably still need to follow up with a towel to remove all the wax.
Can u link me the orbital polisher?
Hi @vinsonwalton28!
The orbital polisher used in this video is our FLEX Orbital Polisher. We work with a large network of trustworthy distributors who would be able to help you get one. If you go to www.malcoautomotive.com/find-a-distributor , you can see if there are any distributors near you!
With any additional questions, feel free to message our Malco Automotive Facebook or our Instagram @malcoautomotive. Have a great day!
Very nice & thanks. So, I see the ending wax removal is done by hand and there is no machine buffing (?)
That was our method because the wax is very easy to wipe up, however you could use a microfiber pad on a machine to remove the wax as well.
Would this method of application of liquid wax with the DA polisher remove a freshly applied ceramic coating (Cured 24 hours)
Hello alexlituma6026!
There is no need to immediately install any additional protection once Epic Pro Ceramic Coating has been applied to your vehicle. Epic Pro Ceramic will provide and exceptional gloss and protection to your vehicles painted finish. Epic CR2 Hydro Protect can be used to compliment your Epic Pro Ceramic Coating one week after installation of our coating system, but is only necessary to apply every 2-3 months to extend the life of the existing coating.
Can we remove wax with the machine using a microfiber bonnet? Thank you
A microfiber bonnet would be more practical to apply wax, not remove it. Your best and quickest option is to wipe at the end using a microfiber cloth instead 🙂
Didn't show the wax product
The wax used in this video is our Nano Care Banana Crème Wax. Both our website and Amazon listings for it are linked in the description of the video 🙂
Great demo! Can I use a paste wax on my orbital polisher? I love my Meguiar’s ultimate paste wax (then one that comes in a tin)
Hello, yes you can absolutely use a paste wax with an orbital polisher as well. It is a very similar process and we did another video dedicated to orbital waxing with a can paste wax which you can see here: ruclips.net/video/O2nP-1RpGos/видео.html
Do you polish and then wax, or just wax? I'm confused...🥴🤔
@@rossmurray3168
Polishing is done before waxing.
Polishing is only meant to be done periodically IF you want to remove very fine clear coat scratches. I don’t polish as regular maintenance. Keep in mind, polishing removes your clear coat a tiny layer at a time, so be careful of how much you polish.
Wax your car regularly. I usually wax my car 3-4 times per year
@@jaysmith6013 Appreciate that. I've an older car (black) and the paintwork looks as though it's never been polished or waxed and it had moderate but even scratches all over. I had it washed and dried. Then I applied some turtle wax hydrophobic wax spray before buffing off. It looks better, but I think it needs a proper polish and wax. Do you recommend a duo?
@@rossmurray3168
Definitely do a polish and wax. I’d also recommend going over the whole with a clay bar before polishing. Plenty of tutorials on that
so multiple coats isnt required?
While you can add multiple coats, it is not required with this product 🙂
Can I use this with my DA Polisher with a finish pad .
This specific wax, Banana Creme, is designed to only be used with an orbital buffer or by hand.
I have to do detailing in the Phoenix summer heat, any suggestions on how to wax and such in such crazy temps? I have already ordered some of this wax actually 🙂.
Hi @idabouss5982,
unfortunately detailing in intense heat will always be a bit more difficult in general. Our best suggestions to deal with the heat are to 1) NEVER wax in direct sunlight. Find a shady area to work in. And 2) don't wax on a hot car. If a car has been sitting in the sun and is hot when you go to detail it, you should move it to a shaded area and allow it to cool before touching it. Hopefully these help you some with dealing with extreme temperatures 🙂
@@MalcoAutomotive Thanks! Out of curiosity though, is it ok to wax a car that IS hot? It would be literally impossible for me to cool all the cars down before I detail them. Should I just use a spray wax if detailing in the heat?
@@idabouss5982 Yes, in cases where the car does not have enough time to cool down a spray wax would be your best option. Many of our southern detailers enjoy our Cherry Flash Liquid Paste Wax since it is able to be sprayed and flashes quickly, as the name implies. The ease and quickness of using it has appealed to some in hotter climates.
@@MalcoAutomotive Cool! Thanks for the info, I'll look into it 🙂!
can one wax with a rotating polisher?
The wax shown in this video is our Nano Care® Banana Crème Wax. For this wax, it should be applied by an orbital polishers or by hand.
@@MalcoAutomotive Thank you
What kind wax did you use
In this video we used our NanoCare Banana Creme Wax! It is linked in the description of this video if you'd like to learn more about the product 🙂
Excellent explanation!
Thank you! It's a pretty straight forward process as long as you have the right tools!
Thanks for the tips!
Anytime!
Noob question here, how do you clean the towels/rags you use to finish the waxing? Is it safe to throw them in the washing machine? 5:30
Not a newb question at all, in fact there are pros that still don't have this figured out! Best practices are to pre soak towels in water after use, separate wax towels from others, wash them separately from anything else, cold water using our Microfiber Refresh towel detergent, tumble dry on lowest heat setting or air dry.
Nice haircut dude.
Thanks
Why don't you buff of the wax with the orbital and a polishing pad
It just doesn't make much sense to do that. A polishing pad is to apply polish and spread it evenly, even cut the clearcoat a bit depending on what type of polish you're using. A microfiber towel is designed to lift and trap the wax dust in it's micro fibers and prevent scratching when used correctly.
What kind of pad should i use to apply wax please? 🙏
Any recommendations on when you remove the liquid wax, for me I use meguiars liquid paste wax and I notice I’ll get streaking here and there after I remove it. Any tips on how to avoid that or just keep doing what i do and use a detail spray after, thanks in advance
Hello @compacheo603!
We cannot speak to the quality of or exact issues that you're facing with another company's products. However, we have not had this type of feedback or any complaints about streaking with our liquid paste waxes. Many people enjoy using either our Banana Crème Wax (shown in the video) or our Cherry Flash Wax depending on the amount of protection and ease of application they're looking for.
malco good. wax rpm. the heck with car
how long should I let it sit for until I start wiping?
Very helpful i appreciate you
Can I buff off the wax with the polisher instead of the microfiber towel? If not recommended, why?
We wouldn't recommend this option because since you are attempting to remove the excess wax, you'll be left with your polisher pad running pretty dry on the surface. This will greatly increase the chance of potential swirls as you continue to run the polisher. Also, since our waxes our designed to be easily removed, it should be easier and faster to remove by hand with a towel. You'll likely be able to cover a larger area faster without having to carefully go over the whole car again with the polisher.
Now, in theory, if you desired you could potentially use a very soft, clean microfiber pad to remove buff off the surface, but we see it as something that would only potentially create issues without having much upside in our opinion.
@@MalcoAutomotive 😊 thanks
Of course, we're always happy to help!
Is that a course, medium or fine pad? Cutting or finishing 🤔
Hi Kenny! The pad shown in this video is our EPIC Black Foam Polishing Pad. Thanks!
In general, how many panels can you cover before reloading the pad with product?
It will obviously depend on how much product you initially load the pad with but you should be able to do 2-3 panels. It is not necessary to apply a lot of product to any one area because only so much will adhere to the surface.
@@MalcoAutomotive Thank you! I tried my first test area yesterday afternoon. It didn't go so well. It seems that the product dried out almost as soon as I got it spread out over a 2x2 area. I was in the shade, but the surface was still hot. Around 95F according to my laser thermometer. Is that my problem?
Yes that will definitely do! Even after it is out of the sun, you'll want to let the surface cool down to a more neutral temperature before application. Otherwise the high-temp surface will act to dry out the product too quickly.
@@MalcoAutomotive Thank you very much for your help!
Was curious what product do you have that works best with VW's pure white paint? It's a very hard paint and difficult to polish. What set up has worked for you?
Hi! When working with a hard clear, we recommend EPIC Heavy Duty Compound with a grey foam pad on a DA machine. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Great video out of all I encountered on RUclips
- I do have a question, do you ever hit the side mirrors?
Hello! Thank you for checking out the video, you can definitely use this around the side mirrors, the only thing we would watch out for is being careful to avoid plastic trim if there is any around the mirror.
I noted that you applied with the buffer tool, but you removed with a hand towel. Do you ever, or would you recommend using a buffer to remove the product?
Never. You need the towel to absorb youll just be doing more work and risk clearcoat damage.
@@vera_bh8091 Absorb???? Do you let the wax dry and harden and then remove after applying with the buffer? Or do you remov the wax when still wet?
Thanks dude!
Absolutely! 👍
Good work
I tried using machine but it seemed that my machine does not glide well and is sticky. Is there a certain thing I could do with my wax to make it less viscous, I just bought it and I don't want to throw it away untouched
We can't be sure what issue you are experiencing but some factors you may want to consider include: 1.) applying even pressure to ensure consistent movement of your pad 2.) The right size pad - a pad that is too large can bog down more easily 3.) using the right amount of product - too much or too little product can suppress movement of your pad. 4.) proper correction before applying wax - deep scratches and thick contamination can also affect pad movement. The wax type you are using should not be the issue.
Selamat sore saya Agus mirad dari Indonesia, mau bertanya merk apa obat poles body dan wax yg anda gunakan
The wax used in this video is our NanoCare Banana Creme Wax!
What kind of pad can I use for wax?
For a finishing wax, best practices would dictate using the softest pad in your lineup. If you're shopping our pads specifically, the black foam Epic finishing pad would be our recommendation.
For customers do you absolutely have to clay it first? Or can you just wash it really good and come in the the wax
Good question! Using a clay bar or mitt is not required with the wash process. However, you will see a noticeable difference when you have washed AND clayed, as clay removes contaminants on a much higher level than any wash will. If you plan on correcting the paint, after washing and before waxing, you can forego the clay. Buffing will remove much of the contamination that you would remove with clay. So, it is not a required step. Depending on the finish you want to reach, it may be preferred.
So slow speeds for wax is ok and won't cut or damage? Also what about polishing first can I use the same speed and another black pad. First timer here just worried about damaging my paint
If you have OEM paint in good condition, polishing will almost never hurt your paint, and it is fine to do so before applying wax. Most waxes will polish a little so it depends on the condition. Slower orbital speeds are usually recommended for final polishing and waxing.
Will putting wax on yr polished affect the paint? Is it ok if I do it once a month ?
I was doing that and it actually wears down the paint faster. Once every six months is the most often I would do. Protection stays strong with minimal wear on the paint
Does the banana creme wax work on finishes that are slightly oxidized? Or is there something better for car that are starting to lose their shine?
Hi Bryan, you won't see much of a polishing effect with Banana Creme, for a something that will help restore the shine a cleaner wax/one step polish like our Rejuvenator will work better for you. You can see more on that here: ruclips.net/video/KVbOoe5mPMc/видео.html
Or if you're looking for a hand polishing option, our Nano Care Polishing Creme can be applied by hand as a polishing wax. www.malcoautomotive.com/Nano_Care__Polishing_Creme-details.aspx
Is this wax friendly with plastic and rubber trim?. No making it white. I think the Malco Flash wax does mark plastic and rubber
Hello, thanks for reaching out! Banana Creme wax is designed for painted surfaces and is not intended for plastic or rubber. Any excess should be cleaned off any plastic or rubber after waxing as it could cause some discoloration.
@@MalcoAutomotive Thanks for the reply. Ok yes you say that it is not designed for that purpose. But some wax does mark plastic with a white residue that can be a real problem getting off fully sucessfully.. And other products seem to just wipe off with no problem at all. My intent to try this Banana creme wax out. But I don't want to find that I have to be super careful not getting it on the trims. I can only buy this buy the gallon where I live. I don't want to find out the hard way I've bought the wrong product. $83.00 NZ .
I tried this method but the wax sputtered out over the rest of the vehicle, what did I do wrong? Do I have to press firmly on the polisher?
Hello! A couple factors may be affecting your application. On initial application of the product to the surface, be sure to spread the product at a low speed, with a very soft pad. You don't want to apply the product at too high of a speed. You will also want to make sure you are applying the appropriate amount of product. You don't want to use too much. Lastly, be sure to keep your pad flat against the panel. Hope this helps!
Does it matter what type of pad medium or fine ect. used to apply wax?
Hi Matthew! Good question. When it comes to applying waxes, the softer the pad the better. Malco's EPIC™ Black Foam Polishing Pad is ideal. Thanks!
Hi,can I put another spray wax,after applyig tUrtlewax liquid..thanks
You could likely apply the spray wax over another wax layer without any kind of issues, however, the top layer isn't going to bond well to the first wax layer so it won't provide much more protection or longevity.
Is it worth while polishing the car before hand? Or just having it clean and dry is enough?
This really depends on the condition of the paint. Most waxes will fill in light swirls, but not everything, so a polish may be required first.
@@MalcoAutomotive Thanks
Can I use the was paste on buffer machine instead on hand?
Good question! It is possible to apply our paste waxes by machine. However, you will want to work at a very slow RPM and use a soft pad. It will also be important to stay out of the sun, as this will make the wax very difficult to remove.
How long do you let the wax dry before wiping it off?
Drying time will vary based on material thickness, product, humidity and temperature. You want the material to be completely dry, but you don't want to let it sit in the sun and bake in. Wax in the the shade, and wipe once dry.
Are Cherry Flash, Banana Creme, and Regular Flash all the same product? if not what's the difference?
Hello, Cherry Flash and Flash waxes are very similar, the difference being that Cherry Flash is the VOC-compliant version of Flash Wax. Banana Creme is a thicker, longer-lasting paste wax. The Flash waxes will typically last around 2 months and are thin enough to be sprayed on with a spray bottle making it east to work with, while Banana Creme will last closer to 9 months.
When waxing and entire car, at a certain point do you have to wipe down the pad or swap it?
If you are using an orbital polisher during your wax application, you really shouldn’t have to clean your pad out as you are not buffing, you are just trying to achieve complete coverage with the wax. If your pad is dirty, or the surface of the paint is dirty, you need to stop and address the contaminated surfaces before continuing to apply the wax. This should be a very quick and easy step preformed on a prepped surface.
Do we need to clean the pad after each panel like compounds?
If the surface has been corrected or properly cleaned prior to applying the wax then you shouldn't have to clean it. If you're working on something that might be dirtier or oxidized and you can see that your pad is getting dirty or you are getting any kind of swirling, then you should clean the pad as it might have picked up debris and dirt along the way.
Trim stain is issue ? Or no stain at all
If you allow the wax to dry and bake onto the surface it has the potential to stain. If you get excess on while working we recommend cleaning it off the trim as soon as possible.
Do you get white maarks on the rubber?
Wax on rubber should always be removed quickly. Most waxes will dry white on rubber if not removed. Use an alcohol or solvent based cleaner to remove the wax if it has dried.
Can you take the wax off with the polisher with a microfiber bonnet?
Hello, if you are asking about removing the excess after applying the wax then yes, you can use a clean microfiber bonnet to remove the wax.
If you are looking to completely strip the wax from the surface, then you would need to use a degreaser or an IPA like solution.
Malco Automotive nope just for the excess. Thank you for the reply.
Yep! Then you're all good to remove with the microfiber bonnet, and of course! Anytime!
Damn, 4 drops for an entire side. I'm doing it wrong apparently. My DA polisher doesn't seem to get any real spin at the lowest setting, no matter how hard I push (or not)
Is an orbital polisher the same as a random orbit polisher
Hi John, a random orbit polisher is a type of orbital polisher, we consider there are two main versions of orbitals, that being forced-action and free-spinning or random orbit, but either will work for this application.
