If only the filter removal was as easy as the video portrays. The filters are installed extremely tight.

Would be nice for Socket Size.....and ...what Oil Filter Wrench....and why disconnect battery? Just wondering. I have read MANY MANY complaints about Oil Filter online.

Exactly!!!!! If it's titled "How to Change Engine Oil & Oil Filter John Deere XUV 835 Gator," then they should include the socket size of the oil drain plug (which is 14mm by the way), the real way to remove the old filter (because it's in a terrible position and always STUCK), and WHY IN THE WORLD do we need to disconnect the battery since we're not touching anything electrical (makes no sense).

I’ve spent 2 days trying to get the filter off, even using the John Deere tool for this. I’ve tried 2 other tools and will try 2 more tomorrow. Went to dealer, who had no suggestions. They will talk to the field service guy. I may have to spend a few hundred for a service call for a filter! Very difficult location to access.

I can't find the oil filter on my fathers 2003 Gator. I know they say some don't have an oil filter but how do I know this one doesn't?

Thanks for reaching out, Patrick! We'd be happy to point you in the right direction. If you have the Operator's Manual for your father's Gator™, you might check the "Service Intervals" and "Service Engine" sections for the information on when to change the oil filter along with how to change this filter. Many manuals are available online for free at techpubs.deere.com. Additionally, our Enterprise Contact Center can assist you with this, but may need additional information like the specific model number and serial number of the unit. Our Enterprise Contact Center is available at 1-800-537-8233. We hope this helps get you started.

I came here to ask what size filter wrench, but I see that many of you have already asked the same question with no answer from John Deere 🤦‍♂️

Gary, we understand your frustration regarding the unanswered question about the filter wrench size. If you're looking for information on the filter wrench size for your John Deere equipment, we recommend checking the Operator's Manual for specific details. Many Operator's Manuals are available online, so you may be able to view the manual for your model at techpubs.deere.com. You can also contact your local dealer for further assistance. Find their contact information at Deere.com/Dealer. We hope this helps.

@@JohnDeere unfortunately the manual doesn’t tell the size either. It just says to Remove and discard oil filter (G) on front of engine. Wipe off filter base on engine.

Thanks for your patience while we gathered this information for you. The filter wrench size is 2.5" and is part number TY26639. You can find it here: shop.deere.com/us/product/TY26639%3A-Filter-Wrench/p/TY26639.

Terrible design. I usually have to drive a screwdriver through the filter because even with the wrench it will slip. There is virtually zero room for visibility or movement. Poor design.
