Hi friends 🌸 I've been having a really difficult week so I thought I would make the best out of it and film a video with the tips I'm using to take care of my mental health and wellbeing.
I've struggled for years with clinical depression so I am really careful to watch out for signs of depression, anxiety or fatigue. This way I can take preventative measures to avoid falling into deep depression or negative spirals again.
I hope you found this video helpful! What are your best tips for mental self care?
Thank you so much for watching 🌺

A walk is one of the best things you can do. I keep a kite in my car, and if I notice there’s a good breeze, I get the kite out. I wrestle with depression and insomnia, so I really appreciate your honesty, it’s nice to know I’m not alone.

Kites are a fabulous distraction for your thoughts too....all you are doing is walking, running, focussing on the kite staying up or moving it around and breathing fresh air while doing it, its a like a mini holiday :)

Thank you for this video! I have very similar coping methods: Doing one thing at a time. Allowing myself to do everything slowly! Working with my hands (clean, water the plants, cook a simple meal), being in water (washing the dishes, shower, bath) or be near a river. I liked your focus on the senses like smell, I was not so much aware of that one but it is a great tipp.
Rest, breathe, nature, move slowly (walk, I like doing gentle yoga), eat and drink well.
But now I was very happy to be reminded! I have difficulties to realize my emotions and I begin to blame myself. When I am able to see it and to be aware, I can start acting responsible and being gentle to myself. This video helped me to shift.🙏
I hope you're feeling better soon, and I wish a good recovering for your husband!

Thank you so much for sharing Jill! I love all your tips, I wish I was close to a river. There’s something very calming about water indeed.
Yes, not blaming ourselves is so important. Even if we were to blame, it simply wouldn’t help us!

Putting yourself at first is not selfish, we should have time for ourselves too! Doing things one step at a time helps us breath and actually not rush everything surely is helpful! Love the editing here Johana! Sorry about those experiences, hope you feel better soon!❤

I am sorry you have been struggling. You may wish to consider reading 'A Mind of Your Own' and 'Own Your Self' by Dr Kelly Brogan. Her work changed my life and I no longer suffer from depression and it is such a blessing. I understand your frustration with being in front of the computer all day. I yearn to just be in Nature and grow a garden but I can't because you know, money. Humans are a slave species. If we were free, then we could do what we wanted but we all appear to be working for the 1%, as far as I can see. X

So much good here! As someone who was raised in chaos, if 'raised' is even the word to use, I struggled a lot when I was younger with depression, and being convinced I was irredeemably flawed. I had no one to help me, partially because I didn't know what was going on inside me. I worked out on my own the things that would help me through dark times. Thank you so much, once again, for the kind and caring things yo say, both here and in your other videos. They would have been so much help to me in my darkest times, and I'm sure they are helping others.
One very specific memory I have was brought to mind when you talked about just going outside and looking up at the sky. I was in one of my last years of college, and very lonely. I still don't know why, but one day I made a conscious decision to get on my bike and ride out into the country to just lie on the prairie and let go. So I did. And I saw and heard the things immediately around me, the bugs, the wind in the tall grasses, a mourning dove nearby. I knew the beauty these things had, but that day -- and other days to follow -- I really let them in. I was mindful, though I had no idea what that was, and had never heard of the concept. I let go of the overwhelming thoughts that I'd been swimming in, at least for a while. I called back to the mourning dove, and it responded by coming closer and calling again. We 'talked' for a while, and it was really heart-lifting (for me; I'm not sure how the dove felt about it).
I still talk to mourning doves, and they remind me of that one time in the tall grass. I went back several times that spring to the same spot, but even when I wasn't there, if I was feeling down, I'd remind myself of those times, and how they felt. I still do, and this all happened 40 years ago.

@@bakhytgul4457 Yeah, this is way off-topic maybe, but health issues keep me off a bike now, and even walking anything beyond a short distance is hard. I got the most off-road walker I could find, but even that is limited to pavement, and won't get me far. I'm hoping at some point to get an e-bike, or even to make one. I miss being able to really get out into deeper woods and fields. Ride that bike!

    Hi Saga
Thank you for this video, the tips are great.
I have crashed (as I call a depressive episode) and this one has affected me for nearly a week, I feel vague, exhausted, sad, I have no energy and I can’t face any physical activity atm or any mental stress at all.
When this happens I look back and realise that I have pushed myself too hard, usually the week before I’ve “crashed”.
It comes with out any warning, so it’s difficult to know if I’m overdoing it - until I have, but I am learning to monitor the week ahead to try and avoid over committing to too much at once.
Last week I forgot to do this, hence this episode of depression that I’m going through now.
It can take 2-4 weeks to recover and get back to normal.
I find your tips both helpful and realistic, as when I’m not feeling ok, if it’s too difficult I won’t even bother.
I also find avoiding the news helps as well, as this is always so depressing. I am getting better at dealing with these episodes (I think) but your advice to go with along with these feelings, rather than fight them is good advice, as I think fighting it makes it worse imo

Thank you so much. I have many of your issues, but I just don't have a cleanliness need. I detach completely from my mess and walk my dog in wide and long visual spaces in the nearby park enjoying the creek, woods, and natural scents and the quiet sounds. I don't exercise too much control over my dog and he amuses me, and I sort of get into his frame of mind.

You cannot give from an empty cup, self care is very very important if you are going to be helpful to others. Exercise, healthy eating, early nights, meditation, delegate anything thats not going to matter if not done immediately until tomorrow or ask a friend to help with it, most things arent that important. Meditation especially healing meditation is excellent for depression. In terms of managing workload, think like a marathon runner - that means you are easing off at times while still working, not going 100% because the winner is the one that paces themself properly not the one that tries to go hardest all the way. Getting away, turn off technology - camping andand getting in touch with nature only for 2 or 3 days is massively restorative and will cleanse your body because we are reconnecting to our home which is earth without distraction. NO PHONE! Voicemail is there for that purpose. I hope this helps you. Love your channel, Take care :)

Thank you! I love your Channel and the Nordic way of life is so appealing. Have you ever explored your artistic side? For instance, drawing or painting? Getting some colour (yes) into your life at least on beautiful cotton watercolour paper or canvas (scrumptious oil paints) might be just what you need to put some sparkle (yes) into your life. Expressing your art through those nice sketchbooks can help ease the strain of life....something I learned during Covid. (sharing). You are such a brilliant inspiration. Thank you again and again!

@@SagaJohanna I use Italian brands like Meimari paints, Fabriano papers, Ferrario Artist pastels and carbon and A Gallo paints because they are very conscious not to have any waste. Their products are high quality, but not overly expensive. Aim for proven high quality so that you don’t waste. If you go for the cheaper things, you’ll waste them. Fabriano has a nice recycled drawing paper. RUclips has tonnes of free videos and courses. Michele Webber is an excellent place to start. Domestika also offers many affordable classes. At first you might use a lot of paper in learning, but once you get the techniques, you won’t. Plant some trees and use cotton! I use natural brushes with animal hair, because they last long. Some people prefer synthetic, but they don’t last too long. I hope this helps some and expressing yourself with art is a wonderful new dimension for love, light and life! 🌷

Yes I get that too… if it happens in public my nr 1 tip is to find a bathroom and splash my face with cold water, over and over again. I stopped wearing makeup just to make that easier, because it really helps get me home and safe.
Another thing is headphones or ear plugs, and sunglasses. This makes me feel safe and sheltered from people around me.
And these days I try to avoid anxious situations where I know I’m triggered, like the supermarket or bars.
