This is one of the best reviews on what is a very underrated car, you put across a very balanced and fair review where as here in the UK, it is knocked because it is not as modern as a Land Rover Discovery! It is also not so expensive and is more reliable! I prefer the simple, no nonsense charm of the Pajero (Shogun in the UK) Thank you once again for an excellent review!

Just like the G-Wagon, Mitsubishi got the Pajero right from the first time. Why change the design when it's perfect ?
I loved that he said that the Pajero car gives you the felling "this is my car, my castle" because this is so true! The car really gives you the sensation that you, and your family and loved ones, will always get to your destination, whatever the conditions of the road. That's an important feeling in our often poorly kept roads of Brazil.
I owned the smaller Pajero Pini for 8 years and moved to the "big fellow" Pajero Full and couldn't be happier with the acquisition !!!
I'll probably keep it for 5 years or more, then I'll get a newer model of it. Please Mitsubishi do not stop making them!!!!

After having a toyota,and Touareg (which was a pain in the ass) and and a merc s600 ,I ended up buying a Pajero in Saudi Arabia with a 3.5 L Petrol engine..This car saved my life here under the scorching heat.. I never thought the buy a pajero before as Iike Toyota Land Cruisers alot .but what I was thinking about Pajero completely changed after driving this car..Its very reliable and very strong piece of machine with less problematic electronics ..The car is just doing its job ..You woundt be disappointed if you buy this car..I love it but I wish Mitsubishi uses less plastics to prevent that annoying squeeking noises ..Other than that I am definitely going to buy another Pajero with 3.8L full version in 2020..I am enjoying the one I have right now..I started to think that Japanese cars are better than German cars in terms of reliability ,part and service costs..German cars are too complex and too expensive to maintain..

I have a 2006 UK spec Shogun in 5 door like this, I really would not swap it for anything. Sure it feels dated now inside (it has a slightly different interior to this one) but it does it all, tows my caravan, drives off road, carries 7 people, carries just about anything with the seats down, and in all weathers with zero hassle. There is something special about it, something in its character that makes me smile when I drive it. I had a slight scare in a small multi-storey car park in Uxbridge where I really thought I would get stuck, so tight were the turns and so low the ceiling. If you have one, they are 190cm tall which is literally the max height for some car parks so watch out and read the height limit signs before entering!
Really great review.... n one thing Pajero, G class, Land Cruiser, Land rover, Jeep, Nissan patrol r the real suv... when the going gets tough, u knw it will bring u home... not like the modern so call SUV... whose realiability is so-so...

I have 2011 model pearl white, me and my wife sharing it and I really find it comfortable long driving. I drove for 12 hours and its very comfortable. Now I am planning to buy 2018 model gray color this time so we have 2 Pajero for me and my wife. Also Mits Pajero price wise is the best deal you can get compare to other manufacturer. Value for money? Its the Pajero.
As you said,it feels like a king, it is very true as i just drove one of my colleagues Pajero/Montero, those where the first words that came to my mind and that too both the hands on the steering wheel.All on coming cars where looking so small infront of it as i draw it.It has a good view from the front windshield. A nice short review Thomas. The camera work was a little "flakey" but maybe that was because of the low-light conditions (maybe).
I've always liked the look of the 5-door Pajero. The interior certainly shows its age but I understand what you mean about that being less important than in saloons and other cars. That commanding driving position and the general feel of being in command would certainly win over most people who want a capable off-road vehicle that you can depend upon.

Good review ! Very informative , looks like good vehicle , just so so in interior ,but like you said ,purposely built . Fuel economy could be better and a more refined drive train control would be appreciated . Exterior is good. I think it would do okay in the US but would have need to up its game on interior, because the high price of entry of this trim line , lots of competition .

Thinking about buying this vehicle so this was a great review, thanks autogefuhl. My only problem is that you are harping a disgust for animal leather. You do a great job, but please keep this kind of politics out. I get your disgust with the animal hide industry, and I kind of agree, but you just are 2 good at doing auto reviews to bring politics into it. In Summer 2017, Tesla motors has decided to be the first manufacturer to go all the way with sustainable seat materials, only offering fabric/cloth seats or leatherette seats in different colours. They have banned all real leather from the seating surface and at the steering wheel in the white trim or on demand. So Tesla shows where the industry will and must be heading, just like they went forward with electrification first.

List of practical reasons against animal skin seats:
1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it)
2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling
3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating
4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa
6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ruclips.net/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/видео.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla
7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
To the environmental reasons:
1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below)
2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for at least 40 % of climate emissions and thus is (according to numerous sources you can look up) the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for growing animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the agricultural land, you could produce much more food for everyone. 3. It is not only cows who are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage.
4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed in first place: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, in every case you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". A the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover up that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.
6. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production”
1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small.
2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce. Even if you leave the ethical aspect aside, here is the official calculation of the CO2-Output animal skin vs leatherette (different kinds of leatherette):
Leather 17 kg CO2/m²
PVC leatherette 10 kg CO2/m²
Acella Eco natural leatherette 8,5 kg CO2/m²
Benova (PUR leatherette): 8 kg CO2/m²
So by using the latest high-tech leatherette, you even the CO2-emissions are cut in half!
3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future.

Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway.
Manufacturers reactions:
We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL. If it all would be clean and happening without harm, why don’t they show it to us whereas they are showing us every other detail of their products? They have good reason not to, because there is no such thing as a clean animal skin production without harming cows, humans and the environment. The only thing a manufacturer can do is increase their effort for a better future, and we are helping with in-depth talks and interviews by presenting the increasing customer demand for sustainable luxury. Tesla was the first one to react in a major way now.
So meanwhile, we more often also get feedback that a lot of manufacturers are working on leather-free interiors and are aware of the situation. E.g. Bentley, Mini and Kia have started vegan car interior programmes. Besides Tesla, Mercedes already shows major choices for sustainable interiors, you always have to pay attention to the details when ordering, of course - and we are happy to give advice. However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change!

Thanks for the great review, This car is great all around Two problems though, the CEO has announced there will be no reproduction for 2017 until 2020/2021 and another issue is this car is gulping petrol like there is a leakage underneath the vehicle.
I haven't bought the 2016 yet but I'm planning next month from now, your advice is critical, should I buy it or should I go for another vehicle.

So Mitsu do not sell a lot of these now, so they offer limited versions, so they sell even less...
I do not like the wheel on the rear door as it makes the vehicle long. I do not need 7 seats.
In the meantime Prado has the wheel under the trunk and offers 5 seats version, which offers massive loading capacity.

MITSUBISHI KEEP THIS BOXY DESIGN !!! you'll see everyone running back to it. Just look at the pathfinder and the new 2017 landrover LR4 they've slaughtered its boxy design its killing me what they're doing to the 4x4s !!! The only thing id complain about is 3rd row seating space and the storing place of the seats and the way it comes out its very unusual. Id love it even more if you could make it a bit longer

Thank's to your excellent review. I bought an SG3 Model (UK Spec.) 9 months ago.
I spent 6 months touring around Europe in it. Off road but mainly on road.
I covered 16,000 KM over the summer, the car was great no problems with it also very, very comfortable.
It may not be a Land Rover/Landcruser or other luxury 4x4 that cost a hell of a lot more money. it is however a fantastic car. (excellent value for money.)
If you want affordable and reliable 4x4 do yourself a favour and take one for a test drive...... you will be hooked.

This is called the Shogun in the UK market. Even though it is old-fashioned it has a lot of charm and there are so many people who still love them. Including me. I love the down to earth simplicity of this car. Great video by the way.

my classmate family car is 2014 Mitsubishi padgero manual transmission
A somewhat disappointing review considering that it came from Germany, the center of excellence for all things automotive.
For instance how the pajero's diesel engine compares to German diesel engine in terms of acceleration, economy and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness). Sure the author having driven lots of German diesel automobiles can comment on that. Ditto for the transmission.
Pajero uses monocoque construction and has been criticised for noiseness and vibration. Most German SUV have also transitioned to monocoque construction, which country has the better execution.
The author has criticized the slow steering response, aren't the off road vehicles intentionally designed like, for better control during off road.
sorry for this criticism but a German reviewer ought to do better than this

I bought the 3.8 V6 version, it's a really smooth and capable car buy my gosh the amount of gas it consume per 100km 😅

@@brian_jake 13l/100km when I am driving smoothly. I can easily reach 15L/100km when I am dribing more aggressively.
@@waza3350 that's not bad for a V6. I have pajero io 1.8 GDI consumes 10l/100km.
How good is motorway acceleration.
I have this model and the on road acceleration is good. It isn't a race car but the power pushes you up over 100kms/h progressively without power loss. Hope that helps
