Pre-Paid Electricity Using More Credits after UPDATE?

- There is a theory circulating on social media, particularly on Facebook, where many users with pre-paid electricity meters claim that following the recent KRN2 updates, their meters are consuming more credits than before. The questions that arise are: Is this possible? Have other users experienced similar issues? And if true, is it legal? Additionally, if you feel that your credits are being consumed faster than before, what steps can you take to address it? Is there a way to test this? This brief video was recorded on my mobile phone.
These.days nothing is fot the benefit of the people.
True, it really does feel like the system is turning against us.
Yes it is true, I am using more since the update. I am a pensioner and electricity has become unaffordable.
Thank you for your comment. Could you please give me a indication of the increase in number of units/credits you use? How many credits were you using before the code update?
Our credits consumption increased regularly (in addition to actual price rises). Also noticed that credits consumed spiked hugely after the 25th of the month (I guess someone figures people can afford to buy more then, and the end of the month the cost per credit is quite a bit higher). Recently an audit of electricity vendors in our area of the W Cape was announced and suddenly our number of units used dropped significantly, almost back to what it was originally. Guess it'll go back up once the audits are over.
My credit consumption is around 30% more since the update. They are able to calibrate the credit value remotely. During the month of July 2023 there was a big issue with this in my town and prepaid consumption doubled in a three week period, it affected many people and the municipality was aware of it, then in August it went back to the usual consumption. They never refunded any of us and just pretended it never happened. It is happening and it's illegal, the same way they are screwing us with the fuel, big fuel suppliers connected to government ministers are diluting the diesel with paraffin, same concept, we pay the same for credits, but the electric value on the credits is less, so we must spend more to get the same value.
This just make sense now! I normally purchase a certain amount of units for the month but something strange happened.
I normally will hav some credits left over at month end but this month i noticed shortcomings. Despite being away for a whole week from home with everything switched off and nobody home.
DEFINITELY SOMETHING IS NOT ADDING UP.
And load shedding is back. Oewee....the anc is making money all the way through......
Same here! I cant imagine WHY the electricity is flying like this!!!
Riaan a credit is called a kWh(kilo watt hour)
or an electrical unit.
Can be tested veryy easily.
Take a load of 1kW(1 000watt) and run it at a plug for 1hour exactly. It can be a small heater .
put all the othet plug and light circuit breakets off at the Distriburion Board.also geaser.
You can even during the test measure the amps
eg 4.55 ampere.
Also measure the voltage for accuracy eg.231 volts
Single voltage power
P= I xV
4,,55x231 watt
=1 051 watt 1,051kWh
Compare this reading with your pre paid meter and you will know exactly
To 3 digital points
You can also do it with your geaser
I doubt it if there is any truth in incorrect pre paid meter usage.
For 3 phase the power formula is
P =1,732 IVcos phi watt
We used between 8 and 10 units per day before the upgrade. Now 18 to 20 units per day. As persioners this is killing us
As far as I'm concerned, it is defenatley not a conspiracy. we experienced the same problem, and I even set my geyser lower to see if that could have been the problem, but yes, the credits are running out much faster
This seems to be a trendd. I will then start looking if there is a explanation for the higher usage.
I Get less units for the same amount of money every year. Thus I have to buy more units each year to last for the month.
I further discovered that my neighbour that uses much more electricity by using her tumble dryer, washing machine, oven and stove much more than I ever do, pays only R700 per her monthly account. While my pre paid electricity is R1,200 The vendors are ripping us off with prepaid electricity.
Our power costs have gone up substantially as well. I used too install these meters years ago. There are different codes that areas fall under and units are charged accordingly. Im thinking they changed the codes with these updates.
When I buy electricity via my banking app , I have an option to share the voucher. If that can be done on the system from the customer side then it can likely be done from the vendor side.
Am certain the new meters are calibrated different to older meters. My usage also increased after installation of new meters. 😢
What about the massive change in credits after loadshedding ?
Yes it is way up we use to use about 9units a month we live in a small flat and use gasbottels for cooking. Now after the reset of our meter it goes up to around 13 to 14 units per day and we don't do anything extra to use that much more and the price also is going up. Wish I know what is going on.
Sorry per day not per month .
Add adidtional power meter ,kw meter and compare , because lots of people complain about new meter
That is a good suggestion!
Mmmm maybe TOU (Time Of Use) been implemented with update. I may series connect another KWH meter to see. Bought one to see the TOU difference and calculate what when and where to save. Where I am the TOU are implemented. But noticed some other arias it is not. And may have been implemented with update.
I am staying in gauteng my pre paid electricity is double than my son pre paid in mokopane, and he live with his aircon every day,the people on pre pay should pay less because we manage and save electricity,if you pay say R 4 a unit why do you get less units in mid month,it shoud stay the same at all time, they just steeling from us😡
@@Frikkels-o7d some area's they use block inclined system.. I stay in PE, for the first 250 units we pay R3.09 per unit, 250-500 we pay R3.66 per unit and above 500 units R4.05 a unit. So mid month and closer to the end of the month you get less units for the same amount you pay.. This is not new now that they key revision programmed all the prepaid meters..
Yes I buy more credits . I'm a pensioner and can't keep up with the electricity
Agree 100%
Thank you for your comment. Could you please give me a indication of the increase in number of units/credits you use? How many credits were you using before the code update?
Its a fact secret tax eskom has not told anyone. Ive always recorded the units i use now theres a prepaid same units costing me twice as much. If not calibrated and i dont mean software uodate they will steal from u
It's true, that's what I've observed.
Yes it's true, I use double the units after the upgrade
A little off topic, as a new metre owner, when is the ideal time to buy credits.
I have heard after mid month, you get less for more, also, which is the best company to purchase credits.
I am not sure if this is true.
Please advise me.
Thanks in advance.
Credits work on a sliding scal. The first 50 for the month are the cheapest, then the price goes up a little. The next 300 are more and the next 250 are more and so on. It resets the end of every month. It does not matter when you buy, but rather how much you buy for your usage. If you use 500 credits per month it will be cheaper buying 500 credits at the beginning of the month than buying 1000 upfront as the later 500 credits are charged at a premium on the scale.
You get more credits for your money at the end of the month into beginning of next month, mid month is the worse time to buy.
@ Cornelius56
Which date do you purchase?
@@aaabraham14 Now up until around the 5th would be optimum, and then you start getting less credits for the amount you buy.
@@cornelius56not true. It doesn't matter when you buy but how many units you buy. The more units you buy the more expensive the units become. (sliding scale)
It gests reset at midnight of the last day of the month
Yes prepaid needs to be investigated. Something is wrong here. Electricity prices fluctuate on a per buy instance. Don't give me the bulk buy nonsense, I tried all buy options, prices seem to be manipulated against us. It must be investigated.
OF COURSE this was the intent of the so-called "upgrade"...
It all depends on where you live.
NEVER go prepaid.
Didn't have an option Tshwane municipal walked in and change it!
Same with Cape Town.
Yes it is true
i have seen accounts of R8.88 and R2.50 per kWh do not EXPECT fairness from a autocratic monopolistic supplier , it will shorten your life.
ANC can 2:42 steal by you just watching the news they can see everything you have in your lounge
You said the same thing over and over with no solution waste of time bored pensioner
It is a exploration video to determine if the problem really exists.
I suspect the same
Rian Roux, wat is die doel van hierdie video? Daar is slegs meer vrae wat opduik, maar jy gee nie oplossings nie. Gee 'n bietjie oplossings man!
Die video is juis om te bepaal of daar werklik 'n probleem bestaan.
@RiaanRoux uit die kommentare is dit duidelik dat daar wel groot probleme bestaan. Wat is die oplossings wat jy voorstel?
Yes it's true
