To me, Mario and Luigi is a turn-based RPG series I'd recommend to people who don't like turn-based RPGs. If you don't like waiting for your turn, helplessly watching your character take the hits that they canonically should be able to dodge or block no problem or getting screwed over because you got stuck in a fight with low health and the enemy goes first, then Mario and Luigi is perfect for you.
to be completely fair those are all also addressed in TTYD. Mario always goes first (no speed stats at all) and you can avoid all damage if you get good enough at super guarding.
If you didn't know, Paper Mario was originally going to be a direct sequel to Super Mario RPG, the game was even being called RPG 2 when it was in development, but Square wouldn't allow it since they have partial ownership to RPG so Nintendo had to change up the game to make it different from RPG and that's how Paper Mario was born
7:08 If you enjoy the story and take your time in general its usually 50+ hours. Addtionally longer run times shouldnt really be a big aspect since i want to get most of my money as well, the longer the more i get to spend time with the combat/story😊
I don't mind if modern Paper Mario isn't a RPG, I hate the fact that the devs made these unnecessary changes; took away the unique character designs, forces these dumb paper jokes, etc. Just look at Super Paper Mario. It's the perfect example of a gamplay mechanic change but keeps everything the same without ruining the game's esthetic style.
As much as I agree the character designs new compared to old is lacking, Origami King for me still holds as the best Paper Mario over TTYD and Color Splash ending on pare with it
It's also pretty overhated, it might not entirely live up to the previous games in terms of just not having that same charm, but it's still a great game in it's own right.
I honestly find Brothership a little separate thanks to stuff like X & Y being the overworld hammer buttons, and how less personalized every button press is
Brothership is by far the longest. I thought I would be done by the 40 hour mark but nope I'm at the 50 hour mark and hopefully actually at the final dungeon
they’re all pretty solid entry level or beginner RPGs. it doesn’t really matter which one you play since they all accomplish the same thing in terms of that.
Origami King is, in fact, an RPG. You travel through an overworld, upon hitting enemies you transition to another screen where combat happens in a turn based format, there are several stats you can increse over the course of your playthrough and resource management with your durability and coins. The "adventure game" thing was a atupid deflection nintendo came up with on the spot to quell backlash over Color Splash that totally fucking backfired. With that said. Love Origami King. Play it with the refolded mod if you can.
I'm gonna break my rule here and talk about Origami King (just very neutrally) I personally just don't think it is. Obviously "RPG" is a very loose concept as is, but I do think the main thing is the lack of character progression: No experience points to level up and enhance your stats. To me that is the core of the RPG experience. Sure you can enhance stats by finding HP Up Hearts, buy better weapons to up your attack (I think attack goes up at the end of every chapter too?) but none of that is tied to character progression. It's more comparable to a Zelda Game imo: finding heart pieces, finding better weapons - you only grow from story progression and optional pick ups. In the same way you can avoid normal enemies in Zelda without consequence, you are actively incentivized to avoid combat in Origami King. The game's focus is clearly on the adventure and story aspects, it is not concerned with RPG mechanics because that is not what it wants to be, so at least in my opinion it just makes a lot more sense to be classified as an adventure game.
@@biggarffan37 I'm with you on. I almost perfected oragami king and I can't tell you any memorable parts outside of hitting a certain point and just avoiding all battles.
You should play each game series sure all of them have their ups and downs (like any game series) but they are all still fun and should definitely try to check all of them out if you can
I definitely agree, I think they all do their own things really well. This video is hopefully supposed to be a starting point for anyone who might not know where to start :)
I think paper mario/mario rpg is for people who enjoy classic rpg battle systems, m+l is for people who want a longer game with a more interesting overworld, and m+r is for those who like strategically commanding multiple characters.
Brothership is an Enourmously long game is something like 50 hours it is a BEHEMOTH longest game in the Series and has rather slow pacing similar to dream team but with fewer tutorials (still a significant number tho just less ridiculous than Dream Teams 2 hours of them)
In my opinion if you want a fun short game with a darker tone Try Mario and Luigi partners in time And super paper Mario or paper Mario the thousand year door
I'd recommend waiting for whatever nintendo's next thing is call, it's been confirmed to be backwards compatible, and it's going to be announced before too long, but it's up to you
The only Super Mario RPG game I ever enjoyed was Paper Mario: The Origami King honestly. I just don't enjoy the genre overall but that specific game was a masterpiece
Perfect timing, i love both paper mario and mario. & luigi series but i don’t know if to buy paper mario ttyd for switch or mario and luigi brothership, please help
I'd argue all but Rabbids are a must, but that's only because the rabbid games are far more RPG-like and less action focused than the rest, also Ubisoft being evil incarnate, but all are great games
I fucking adore the 1st Mario Rabbids game (never tried the second). Stupid game, stupid characters, so fucking satisfying to plan the turns out. GOD I should replay it
I loved sparks of hope, I played it at launch, it's a shame we'll likely not get another entry since the director left ubisoft to go on his own endeavors
Mario Rabbids is the best out of all of these and I will die on that hill It’s better than TTYD it’s better than Mario RPG and it’s better than Origami King (Literally my Favorite Paper Mario)
Played all of them except the Sticker Star and after that and the Mario RPG which is a shame. I dunno about you, but I adore Mario + Rabbids games. I think it is criminally underrated, and some of the strategies in that game can be so fun and I love making things harder for myself in that game. Soundtrack is a chef's kiss too. Sparks of Hope sounds like a mash of Mario Galaxy and Rayman. Mario and Luigi will always be my favorite series though. Because childhood and all games were bangers for me.... (except Paper Jam that one did not click for me)

As a kid I struggled to learn how to read. Bowsers Iside story was the only thing that could keep me engaged and Ive loved reading ever since
I've read more in video games than I have in books.
Having played all of the games, the correct answer is all of them. Play every single Mario RPG.
@@TheLetsGamer7 But skip Paper Mario Sticker Star. That game is wack.
@@YokaiMarioUnfortunately, that was the first Mario RPG game I played, and thought it was good.
Except for Paper Mario Sticker Star, Paper Mario Color Splash, and Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, imo

I see Mario & Luigi as more as a Action RPG rather than Turned-Based RPG. Which isn't an bad thing. Just your taste of which you prefer.
Having never played any of the games i fully disagree with all your opinions and i will see you in court
Damn good luck dude now he has to get a lawyer.
Short answer:All of them are fantastic
Ngl the Mario+ rabbids games are fun as hell
If you didn't know, Paper Mario was originally going to be a direct sequel to Super Mario RPG, the game was even being called RPG 2 when it was in development, but Square wouldn't allow it since they have partial ownership to RPG so Nintendo had to change up the game to make it different from RPG and that's how Paper Mario was born

Paper jokes are fine but basic characters aren’t
I personally find Paper Mario: The Origami King the best game in the series and even after playing the classics I didn't enjoy them.
As much as I agree the character designs new compared to old is lacking, Origami King for me still holds as the best Paper Mario over TTYD and Color Splash ending on pare with it
I genuinely don't get why people keep bringing up the paper jokes, like.
Does this bother you THAT MUCH ?!
@@Starkor990 I simply don't like the jokes, I personally think their dumb. You can love them all you want, more power to you and anyone else.
I'd say that pretty much sums them up. Brothership is definitely the beefiest one out of them.

Thousand Year Door is literally the best Mario RPG of all time imo.
Debatable.

Bro can't we all agree that there all good and that's it?
You mean Mario Rabbids
they’re all pretty solid entry level or beginner RPGs. it doesn’t really matter which one you play since they all accomplish the same thing in terms of that.
The original Paper Mario is my favorite and it’s not due to nostalgia. I didn’t play it until 2022 at 27 years old, but it’s just perfect to me.
It's such a great game, anyone who already has NSO+ should try it
I wasn't aware that the Mario + Rabbids games classified as RPGs, but now that I think about it, it makes sense
Anyways TTYD is the GOAT
All if them is good but thousand year door is GOAT

6:27 partly true in brothership (you choose Luigi's action with A for some reason)
wait that's blasphemy...

All mario rpgs are good in their own way, play them all its good.
I pick Super Mario-Oh RPG, it's the only one just for me, when i play the game i get lost in a phase, then i found i'm stuck in geno's maze
I played paper mario the thousand year door and both of the mario and rabbits games and I am getting mario and luigi brother ship for Christmas
Hey man watching some of your vids after I saw the scribblenauts vid. You have a great sense of humor.
This is a trick question, the correct answer is all of them cuz they’re all super cool
The paper Mario’s have became like a whole sub-genre. Some examples of them are Bug fables and Block tales
Garf loves you
By this point I feel like it would be quicker to tell people which ones NOT to play (aka paper jam and he who shall not be named)
In my opinion if you want a fun short game with a darker tone Try
Mario and Luigi partners in time
And super paper Mario or paper Mario the thousand year door
I'm about 20 hrs in on brothership and I'm having a blast, the game is a little slow however so if your impatient I'd go for one of the others
For Paper Mario, play the original trilogy.
For Mario and Luigi, play every game except Paper Jam.
And Super Mario RPG’s just too good to pass up.
And for Mario + Rabbids, play both.
You forgot puzzles and dragons Super Mario edition
