Here's a very obscure fact, the Toad you return the wallet to can actually hand out a flower jar under a very specific set of circumstances. If you keep the wallet all the way up to Rose Town, then find the Forest Maze treasure room before talking to the Toad who tells you directions to get there, once you go back and talk to the Toad, he'll congratulate you for finding it. Now for whatever bizarre reason, going all the way back and giving the other Toad his wallet back, he'll give you a flower jar instead of a tab or frog coin.
Unfortunately, this apparently isn't in the remake so either they removed it, or it's so obscure and strange that they simply forget which I wouldn't blame them honestly

In Japan, they use X as a blank space, so Peach's secret item can be anything, though usually people think it's underwear so it makes sense that the grandmother would know about it.

    • @DanelerH

This is the closest-to-blunt I've heard a gaming trivia video be about an instance of the "weirdly adult hidden gag in an RPG" genre. I bring this up because I have a concerning amount of teenhood memories of someone telling me "you can find a secret item by clicking on this pillow in this girl's room. I think my favorite detail relates to the Hurly Glove, one of Bowser's equippable attack items. Normally when Bowser attacks with it he throws mario, who's waiting for his turn, at an enemy (twice if you hit the action command). If Mario is either under a status effect or unconscious, however, Bowser will take a Mario doll out of his pocket and toss that, instead. Why he's carrying a Mario doll with him at all times is unknown, but we aren't ones to pry, are we?

I think that Bowser kissing Mario is the best of the 4 kissing scenes. The Peach kissing Mario maybe the hardest to get but while it is standard hero reward, it is kind of boring. Booster kissing Mario is kind of eerie, and while Bowser and Booster kissing Mario is funny the feels like sandpaper quote kind of ruins the moment. So yeah Bowser saying that he and Peach are now allies is funny and then he realizes he kissed Mario. I bet that Mario and Bowser were shocked when that happen. Mario was hoping that Peach would kiss him and Bowser is probably spitting and gagging offscreen in disgust after he realizes he kissed his archenemy Mario.

We know wishes go up to Star Road and take the form of stars but because it was broken, wishes fell down to Star Hill instead. And the new postgame content confirms this since there's new wishes there

Regarding Luigi’s wish changing, during the development (or possibly slightly afterward), it was stated that the Mario bros are no longer plumbers, but full-time “heroes” instead. This change in dialogue is probably just to keep up-to-date with the new highly important Mario lore.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 5 месяцев назад +2

I think it goes deeper than that. Mario and Luigi are technically "Actors" and the Mario we see in games is actually the character that the IRL Mario plays. In "real life", the Mario bros were plumbers and formerly construction workers before getting an acting gig in a play based on King Kong, it was so popular that it started to skyrocket Mario's carreer where he would reference his work in New York's sewers and construction crew as a middle age man just trying to make a living but with antics. However his magnum opus would be "Super Mario bros", a full play about his adventures in the mushroom kingdom to save a princess from a dragon and that was such a huge hit and success, Mario became a sensation and the rest is history.
It goes deeper than that too, as it's implied like DOnkey Kong, the Mario and Luigi we see today are actually Baby Mario and Luigi from the 90s era grown up, hence thier radically different personalities (Mario's more whimsical and a lot more young and athletic, while Luigi's more cowardly when he used to be more mature and serious). It could also be implied the reason Modern Peach doesn't return affection to Mario as much as she used to is because the actors used to be friends, but if they had kids, the modern Peach, Mario and Luigi are likely siblings and thus have to keep affection to a minimum for obvious reasons, but they likely wrote that in for comedic effect (see Mario Oddysey's ending and Peach solemnly referring to Mario as a "friend")
This is all conjecture of course, but piecing the evidence together based on the old lore the new lore and interviews from Shiggy himself heavily imply this is the Mario lore, and the Movie confirms a lot of elements while modernizing them (like Mario being a 20 year old which makes less sense if he's actually from the 80s, but his father heavily resembling the old Middle aged Mario we're used to and being disappointed in his son at first may reference some history there).

In the original game this was almost impossible as the max coins were 999 so you could only literally get a 50 coin discount, but in the remake you can do this far more as you can hold 9999 coins........or you could if you could hold more than 6 Kero Kero colas... but I think any extras you buy will go to your storage box so it's still worth doing.

There's even more about the Kero Sewers/Land's End Easter egg. If you reach that room in the Kero Sewers, initiate a battle and then run away, you can use the flashing enemy as a footstool to reach that upper area. The treasure box contains a Frog Coin at this point in the game. Additionally, you can enter the pipe to visit the dead end in Land's End. The Shy Away (Beezo in the remake) then tells you that you're not supposed to be there yet and that you should leave. If you choose to fight him, he and the other high-level enemies will wreck you.

So, I went back and first kill Mario, Mallow, and Gino in one of the battles at Bean Valley, then win (by Peach and Bowser) and regen 1 health for each of them. Same for Peach and Bowser. Finally, I went straight into the 5 Apprentices' battles and died to all of them. Mario did really take it to heart when he failed Luigi there. Since he's the older brother and all. Luigi looks up to him so much so it would've been a nice touch to keep that in reference to the movie. Still I think the whole "Mario and LUigi being plumbers" thing was likely an American thing to make Mario relatable as a New Yorker with an every man job. That's what made Mario so appealing to adults in the 90s who could see him and go "Hey he's just like me! a regular working man!" and spoilers...it worked!

XXX or OOO or some other English character equivalent, mostly the X or O, is often used in Japanese sentences to obscure words as a form of self-censorship. For example, if they want to say that characters are going into a famous fast food restaurant with golden arches, but are worried about copyright claims, they may say that the characters went to MaOOOOalds to try to avoid infringement. They'll also of course do that for topics that are sexually.
All that being said, I keep hearing the vibrator idea, but I think that's way too direct for a kid's game. Knowing Japanese humor, and the time frame of around 1996, it's more likely that it's a pair of Peach's panties than anything else. Would also explain why it's near the fire instead of the bed. Probably being dried after a wash.

I didn't know this myself until I saw a particular long-play of the SNES version, then I tried it on my own on the remake and confirmed it was indeed retained - if you try to exit Marrymore from the north exit (towards Star Hill) after rescuing Peach and continue saying "No" to each prompt to return to the Mushroom Kingdom first, more party characters will come out to convince Mario to return and if you keep saying "No" until and including when everyone's out then they'll all get mad at Mario, refuse to let you pass, and you're only allowed to exit Marrymore from the south exit, resuming the game's natural progression.
This is a very easy-to-miss scene and I didn't even know about it until this remake came out and the various videos started coming out wondering about what was changed and kept the same.

Also I'd like to believe that Raini and Raz are only planning om going to Star Road because they think it's romantic, and not because physically going to Star Road is a requirement to make a wish. Culex is implied to never leave his room in Monstro Town. In fact, the purpose of your fight is to determine whether or not he'll escape. He has a wish in Star Road, but he cannot possibly have gone there since he doesn't meddle with Mario's world outside of their battles.
Gaz and a lot of NPCs also seem unaware that the Star Road is broken and their wishes can't be granted. They still make them, however.
I think that wishes manifest in Star Road through some sort of magic or psychic link that citizens have with it. Star Road also appears in Paper Mario 64 and it works similarly, with people merely having to make a wish to themselves in order for the Star Spirits to grant them.
The developers have also confirmed that the Star Road is the same in Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and Mario and Luigi. We can assume the logic is consistent throughout all these games.
The Star Spirits use the Star Rod to grant wishes, and that's channeled through the Star Road. Geno serves the Star Spirits. The Spirits are separate from the seven Stars, which are just shards of Star Road, hence why different things are needed in different games to restore the wish-granting powers that be.
Stuff like the Crystal Stars and Pure Hearts appear to be completely different relics, they just serve a similar gameplay function.
