It could be that Melisandre was originally not from Valyria and a survivor of the Doom but from Beyond The Wall and born among the Free Folk and survived the cataclysm at Hardhome. Her memories in her POV point at her witnessing such a disaster. A lot of Hardhome survivors were enslaved by Essosi slavers. It is possible that her powers come not from Rh'llor but from the old Gods. I think so because her magic is strongest at the Wall (a place deeply rooted in the magic of the Old Gods) rather than at Dragonstone (a place steeped in Valyrian magic) where she had to use powders and potions.
Wow this is a good catch we know that The Dark Flame ( The Red Priest Moqorro ) definitely has flames tattooed all over his body and face. Melisandre is like the female version of him. And slaves in Volantis all have tattoos on there faces and all the Servants of Rhollor orginally are slaves. Even the fingers ( the five fiery hand servants )on the ship with Tyrion have tattoos because we hear how that is there binder if taken by slavers they get taken to the nearest red temple where they are bought back by the faith of Rhollor. It would not make sense that she wouldnt have tattoos it could be hers are not on her face or covered by a glamor but I really like this. Thought that she might have glyphs or potentially flames at very least. The ones on Moqorro seem to move and be alive with heat when near fire and Bennero makes fireballs and writes fiery glyphs in the air which could be possible due to the tattoos being like actual fire obsidian is frozen fire and glass candles never burn out or consume itself or grow smaller with use and time. I very much like this theory. The other theory I like associated with Melisandre is Jon is not dead or even the person being stabbed but potentially tormund that Melesandre has placed a glamour on to look like Jon. Check out The Order Of The Greenhands channel video I think called is Jon really dead. Best explanation I've heard so far and makes far more sense then him dying and being whited and brought back.
I always interpreted the line about Melisandre „shining“ as akin to people referring to pregnant women as „glowing“. Of course seeing Melisandre‘s pregnancy is of a magical nature it seems likely that in her case the actually was shining to some degree, her body emanating light and heat while giving birth. The show reveal about Melisandre‘s true form es thoroughly underwhelming in my book and hasn‘t actually led to anything yet. Let‘s see if come season 8 her ancient age and past as a slave actually result in any sort of payoff, although I fear we‘ll likely have to wait for the books for a satisfying resolution.
We know melisandre studied in assai by the shadow, did she escape her temple or was she sent? Glyphs .. idk about that, but tattoos of flames definitely. Now here's where it gets complicated. She'a a mage of assai. She studied shadow binding there,we learn. Shadow binding and what else ? Does she still have the tattoos that mark her as sacred to the fire god, or did she find a wat to erase them? Glamour takes effort to maintain. The further from assai, the more her power diminishes. I would make sense to erase the tattoos, change her dress, and move anonymously in the crowds. She had no way of knowing the state of affairs in westeros. what if the seven had grown intolerant of other faiths? A woamn more or less disembarking from a ship, goes unremarked. A red Priestess ..not so much.
I thought that Euron actually had a horn wasn't clear as of now; that he might have made that up. Now Mr. Martin goes around and speaks about the horn; confirming that it's real. Hmpf, as always: as an author you better keep your mouth shut until the last book is published; else why build up a myth in the books. He does the PR thing for decades and still goes around making hints about the ending, fates of characters and other details. His only answer should be "i'll tell you in the books".
That's actually what I started thinking as well. There are some theories that Euron was actually in Qarth around the same time as Daenerys, masquerading as Urrathon Night-Walker, a man who possessed a glass candle. So he may have had the same knowledge as Quaithe. Although this protection from the Doom thing is only in the show, if I recall correctly.
Alabastur I thought that Euron stole the dragon horn from Pyat Pree , ( at this point he has Pyat and company on his ship torturing them in the Forsaken chapter) also he took their SotE possibly a glass candle as well. The armor isn't mentioned so that is a mystery but I just don't think Euron could have survived a trip to Valyria.
@@brendastarr9822 I think that also, but I'm raising both possibilities, considering George has said (in the full video) that Euron went to Valyria. He could just be speaking in terms of what characters claim/believe and not what actually is, but I do like that he confirmed Dragonbinder to be a Valyrian construction, and not some recent replica.
Alabastur Wow your right! I had heard the horn was real but not that there were people that survived Valyria post doom. The question asked here about the magic needed to survive is interesting because he seems to indicate it wasn't that. Also, great catch with th wording used for the DH and Mel I am very interested to know what your theory is on this.

She probably gave Mance his cloak.
At 1:29 Mel has a crown over her head.
Foreshadowing much, lol???
The choker/collar that Dany wears to Drogo's manse also has Valyrian glyphs.

Well, he'd have to actually write them first...
Could Euron have gotten tattoos from Quaithe to allow him onto Valyria to get the horn and armor?
