Your reaction to "that's not where I dangle it" was /chefskiss
20+ years, I'm still dying to know where she dangles it...
My rather tame assumption is belly button...
Probably bellybutton because piercings in more "delicate" places are usually studs or small rings to prevent them from being easily ripped off - ouch!
This episode always ranks very low on the favourite fan episodes which is rather unfair. It was really way ahead of its time regarding the potential dangers of online dating and social media. Willow is obviously very green, innocent and vulnerable as up to this point she has no romantic experiences. Great foreshadowing here again in this episode ( will not mention here ) as could be construed as spoilers. As has been said S1 is quite rough, but great perception here of how the future is now with the internet basically controlling everyone's lives.
I love this episode totally agree ahead of its time. The robot totally
Has a power rangers vibe plus we get to meet Ms Calendar who has one of the best mic drop lines in the show……that’s not where I dangle it!
Buffy really gets better in season 2, that’s where the show finds itself.
The warning about who you talk to online was pretty important then, when the internet became a household staple. And even more so now. Fun fact: kid that plays Dave went onto some other successful shows&movies. This wasn’t his first role, but very early in his career
This episode gets a ❤ for the serious Giles + Ms. Calendar chemistry, and a 👍for the visionary ideas of how the internet can influence people's perceptions of ideas and the early idea of catfishing... but the rest was just okay. I did love the joke about their relationship chances while living on the Hellmouth - very interesting, although something tells me Giles might be doing okay at the moment.
Jenny's first episode. ❤ Even if the ep is very low on S1 for me. But the last 4 for S1 are all strong to me.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
A very interesting take on the dangers of meeting someone online. Great reaction Jay :)
That’s NOT where I dangle it. Oh my!
The technology might be extremely outdated here, but the cautions and concerns are still relevant today when it comes to letting your kids chat on the Internet. It used to be quite the luxury back then to have your computer connected online all the time with dial-up modems.
I have a lot of fun with this episode - despite the dated technology (which is honestly half the cheesy charm)... I adore the focus on WIllow, and the flirtatious vibe between Giles and Miss Calendar. A lot of people consider this one of the worse episodes of S1, but I'd watch this over Teacher's Pet or Never Kill a Boy on the First Date any day.
It’s amazing how time, context, and streaming access changes the perception of BTVS. The show was a lightning bolt to teenagers. We loved it because it not only spoke to us but dealt with relevant issues but told in an entertaining manor. Usually anything that was a story was lectured or blandly told documentary/ news style. The story may seem lame today but in the Spting of 97 this was new. There was no Google, Facebook, and chat rooms were new if you could have access to a computer. The first Apple phone was a decade away and if you did send a personal e mail you used AOL. We understand “catfishing” today but there were just starting to be news stories about old men, even over 30!😮, luring girls and yikes, boys , to a meeting that lead to assaults or abduction. Todays viewers view the episode has quant and silly. Back then we did not. The girls that watched this , I was the only boy and was now part of the group, were all taken aback and brought fears to their minds. Good episode at the time and a group of 14 & 15 year olds liked it.
The jayperview guy kind of looks like you'd think Malcolm would look like
Malcolm wishes.
Many people consider this episode the worst of S1. To me it's a monster-of-the-week episode where the audience learns more about Willow's character. Not a favorite, but not a least favorite, either. I think I rate this 10th of 12 in S1.
yay! Good to see you watching Buffy :D

A lot of this episode is a bit cringy - but the stuff about online grooming and being careful who you're talking to and what you put online is more relevant than ever.
And Giles is right about books. I can pick up a book printed 200 years ago and just start reading it. If I want to read a story stored only on a floppy disc, I have to go get special equipment (if it hasn't corrupted).
