I'm finding that with Vinnie it's he doesn't treat cymbals as a secondary thing like most drummers do. To him there more important than the drums. And he strokes them with such finesse - it's unparalleled in most modern players in my opinion.
That’s just a jazz drumming thing. Jazz drum grooves mainly come from the cymbal and left foot hi hat (especially in swing drumming). it wasn’t until rock drummers started playing more modern backbeat grooves that the snare and bass drum became the focal point in the drum grooves
Not one single version of Spain is the same in all Chick's live performances. A true musician , a genius. RIP Sir ! You are a legend forever in my heart
After reading your comment I went back and that right leg of his was locked with the bass pattern. John was superbly supported throughout. In most of my bass gigs, it was mostly up to me to find a drummer's kick habits. This here was the ultimate rhythm section!
Thanks for sharing this, i feel this music full of freedom means a lot nowadays... To me It's the one of the best things that ever happened to human kind...
My first encounter with Chick was 1973 and my love of jazz fusion started than, we called it jazz rock😁 Saw him live with Herbie in London , jyst two grands and two grates.......history Thank you for posting❤️
Interesting how he suggests , rather than 'plays', the tune we have all come to know and love (I waited and waited for the familiar riff but it never arrived) ... it's likely a mark of his quest to do something different each time ... all good .. I just discovered Patitucci after Chick died ... what a monster! these guys occupy the upper realms ...
I long ago had the pleasure of tuning John's bass for him before a gig. He didn't really need me to, he just knew that as a young punk kid who played bass, that I would like to do just that little act to contribute and be "part of it" in some tiny way. He was very gracious and happy to chat. Chick I got to spend more time around but it was on a public relations thing, but he was always nice and friendly, the kind of guy who made it a point to know your name no matter who you were. Vinnie I never met but I'd almost be scared to, that guy plays and thinks on another level entirely, love it.
@@BigBlackBe4r Yeah his musical mind is INTENSE. I remembered being mesmerized by I think it was Private Earthquake #9, something like that, just kept me entranced.
VC is such a character on top of being one of the best. He makes it look so easy compared to say Buddy Rich who looks like he’s going to stroke out... he’s so cool.

its 2018! making this clip 26 years old.. and yet, we may be cool musicians and all.. BUT.. we'll never be Vinnie cool! Lol.. he's shuffling latin Jazz in Japan with Corea while having a drag.. THATS COOL! Lol wooowww!!! From the 3:00 minute mark on, its simply amazing to watch!!! Mastery at work!
I just LOVE watching John play. the way he communicates through his bass and grooves with vinnie and chick makes this trio one of the best i've yet to hear!
@@chefnaj78 he has played with an incredibly wide range of people from Faith Hill to Sting and Zappa plus all of his amazingly extensive studio work. He's probably my favorite drummer.
Chick, Vinnie, John, one stage... that's like too good to be true level stuff for me lol. I love Chick's facial expression, it's always something along the lines of "let's have some fun, shall we?" Was. Still not used to saying was, love the dude.
This version sound like a Latino/Español emigrant to USA,others like Mediterranean/Cuban .....all are great Corea's mood and think that was his intention.I really love all this tunes.
What makes a great and demanded musician? Perfect mastering of his/her Instrument, knowledge of his role within the band, ability and willingness to listen: Steve Gadd !
i agree. i think that maybe, (correct me if im wrong) this was recorded in that era where keyboard manufacturers where more preoccupied with making synthesizers, and as a result, made the other new keyboards sound a little more synthetic.
Its not like they couldn't totally pull it off tho. I went to see Al Dimeola and his band got stopped by customs so he called Chick who was 3 hours away gigging and he came and filled in. Best live performance i've ever seen.
This is a very dangerous video. Any kid who watches it is guaranteed to start playing drums and start smoking. The badassery is off the chart.
What the heck did he ever do with that cig.?? It disappeared! He is a Magician!
Vinnie is nothing short of a complete master of drumming. Chops, versatility, reading skills, creativity, and the list goes on......
I'm finding that with Vinnie it's he doesn't treat cymbals as a secondary thing like most drummers do. To him there more important than the drums. And he strokes them with such finesse - it's unparalleled in most modern players in my opinion.
It's so nice when a drummer cares about cymbals! It feels so good to me 😊
That’s just a jazz drumming thing. Jazz drum grooves mainly come from the cymbal and left foot hi hat (especially in swing drumming). it wasn’t until rock drummers started playing more modern backbeat grooves that the snare and bass drum became the focal point in the drum grooves

at some point in the 80's Vinnie's "beast-mode" switch broke off in the "on" position and its been stuck there ever since.
Lmao for real.
*70’s ... it happened in the ‘70’s
Numeri uno super
Today was a sad day for this trio, as we lost a great one in Chick Corea. The legend
Best rendition of Spain ever.
One of the most important musicians of the 20th century.
Amazing ! I love it .
This is still amazing 30 years later
And so it remains.
Everything Vinnie does is even more amazing when you realize he's locked with John with his bass drum.
ertoliart TRUTH
Yeah that was so tight i can't even

There you go folks. If you want to be amazing musicians, all you gotta do is LISTEN to EVERYONE in the band at ALL TIMES.
..my lord the combustion of VC..there are millions of greats..but he is in a class by himself..
Living the darkest moment of my life. What a fantastic reflection. Infinite respect to this version of what is originally an uplifting song.

It doesn't get much better than this! All of these three guys are incredible musicians, but especially Chick Corea!
Awesome version of this classic tune, thank you Chick for your music, great passion and feeling in this performance, rest in peace Maestro! 😢
Love the keyboard reflecting in Chick's glasses.
I am very impressed with your devotion to Vinnie, whom by the way was hired as the drummer on a wedding gig........ by me.
oldpython awesome man!
now that would be a good reason for me to get married lol 😅
wow
For real ? :)
Wow... lucky you
