IZ is an inspiration and was loved by all. I was at Makua when they spread his ashes from the Hokule'a. Cars stopped along the 2 lane road leading to Ka'ena bringing traffic to a stand-still. Hundreds of people were wading in the water and hundreds more were on land. A procession of big rigs blew and held their horns echoing through the valley while his ashes were placed into the ocean making it sound as if the State of Hawaii was crying . . . it's a moment I will never forget. An incredible celebration of life for an incredible man!!
So I’ve heard he called the studio at like 3 in the morning and says he wants to record something. One take is all it took to record this song. In and out in 15 mins
I'm so glad I found him even though after his death. R.I.P. MY BROTHER SLEEP WELL IN HEAVEN. LOVE U SIR. WISH I HAD KNOWN U OR SEEN U LIVE. LOVE U GENTLE SOUL😊
Yup that's basically what happened. They did an interview about it with the person who ran the recording studio. He came in, sat down and did it right there in one take. You can watch that part in his documentary here on RUclips.
That's natural. It's a song about looking forward to the peace that comes with death. This was the first singer I've ever seen actually get the vibe right.
Every time this song graces any person's ears for the very first time, it's a celebration of this BIG BOY's life. Thank you for reacting. Thank you to Israel for the cover. Thank you to Yip Harburg (I think) for the original lyrics. IZ LIVES
I cry every time I hear his version...not sure if it's because he is gone too soon...but once again...here I am crying my eyes out. Rest Israel...and thank you.
I love this version of over the rainbow... this guy had a beautiful voice, sends my thoughts in a far away place thats calm and peaceful... rip big man, heaven is lucky to have you... xxx💖💖💖💖
I liked the original version of the song sung by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz in 1939, but this one has continuously blown me away. When I see the video I feel momentary sadness, but hen I imagine that he is now over the rainbow himself and singing with the angels.
I think I love this version even more than Judy Garlands in the original Wizard of Oz movie. Totally different vibe so not in competition with one the all time greatest vocalist. While I am here would you please react to Tom MacDonald's new video " Heart Emoji " dropped Friday. Be sure to # his name and # H.O.G or # Hang Over Gang" His huge, loyal, all Come fan base. Thanks from one of the Hangover Gang ".
An immaculate and heart wrenching tribute to this song is by the late great Eva Cassidy ... her version will have you blubbering into your handkerchief the moment she starts to sing ... she had the voice of an angel.
Iz was one of the sweetest people with a heart of magical gold. He was so friendly and loving, sadly before making that song he lost a lot of family members. He wouldn't want you to be too sad he'd say "don't cry for me, live in the music and warmth of every day" "I may have passed but I am still playing for each of you in my heart." "Enjoy each moment so each moment is worth living." You'd enjoy is Hawaiian superman song, that one's fun He has a number of good ones unfortunately can't recall them at the moment, I'll have to listen to his cd again. Crazy thing is if he was alive, he'd be about 70 or 80 something, passed when he 38 in the late 80s.
Idk if you still reacting but if you really liked this I strongly recommend “Hawaii 78” by him. It talks about the injustices we Hawaiian have been burdened by the modern colonization of our home, and I hope you enjoy it. It brings me to tears anytime I hear the first note!
When I was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in 2002, this song would be played everywhere and God forbid you say something negative about Bruddah IZ around the locals because you could get your ass kicked by a group of pissed off Samoans. He was like a national treasure over there. He died the same year I graduated from high school.
There’s about 7 dvds out there of his music. Music that he wanted to do as a solo artist before he passed. His brother and 3 other cousins made up their band The Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau.
"Island Girls HaveFlow" how dare you first feel bad about what you believe is a poor performance and not the the tragic passing of an amazing human being.
Your imagination is running away with you. She said the song touched her heart. And she even said, through tears, that you can tell by the reaction of everybody that he was loved. And that's reacting to someone she didn't even know about.

So I’ve heard he called the studio at like 3 in the morning and says he wants to record something. One take is all it took to record this song. In and out in 15 mins
One take is all he was allowed. He had to nail it, and hot damn did he ever nail it
I'm so glad I found him even though after his death. R.I.P. MY BROTHER SLEEP WELL IN HEAVEN. LOVE U SIR. WISH I HAD KNOWN U OR SEEN U LIVE. LOVE U GENTLE SOUL😊

Whenever I listen to this I feel like I'm fine but by the time it ends, I find that tears are streaming down my face

He is a beautiful man with a beautiful soul and a beautiful voice this song gives me chills! 💜
The Hawaiian people gave him a king's sendoff. 10,000 people attended. That's how much he meant to the Hawaiian people.
As well as the people of Hawaii. Not just Hawaiians
I am a 4th generation Native Hawaiian, he was and ALWAYS be our National Treasure. thank you for your love 💓💓

Im just shocked that you judged IZ Kamakawawiwo'ole's vocal skills instead of paying tribute to a vocalist legend.
