      It is not that simple. I'm by all accounts picky and it is not for a lack of trying. If there is something I don't like I will have very intense reaction of revulsion, even towards things I have never managed to make myself eat. The smell alone turns my stomach. And I'm an adult.

    • @Ikajo
      @Ikajo 3 года назад +8

      @@cicicave1279 There is science behind what I'm saying. Imagine something that you think stinks really bad and then someone tells you to eat it. You would feel revulsion. That's how it is for me. Because I tend to not like certain food items, a lot of common fruits and vegetables, I tend to avoid trying. It can be texture, taste, smell or a combination that's just not working for me.
      People simply perceive things differently. My dad has never eaten pea soup because to him, it looks like vomit. This doesn't bother me so I can eat it.
      A lot of people tend to be limited in what seasonings they are using in their food. I have a small collection of seasonings and love using them. I'm not the worst picky eater. I can eat a lot of things. But veggies is usually not working for me. Often they kind of taste like they have gone bad. Like salad leaves. Or there is some weird taste like carrot. I once substituted for a day in a school class, in my country school lunch is free for all students, and I was going to eat educational lunch. And to be a good role model I did take a pile of carrots. And had to control my facial features so I didn't show how much I hated it. And no other option was better. I don't like a lot of things, some I will never attempt.
      But if you want to understand. Do some research. There is actual science behind picky eating.

      They did that because as a kid, you're their responsibility. Nutrients are essential to growth and development of a child. You as a stupid kid are not going to eat it just because you don't like it, so the only way to make sure you get your nutrients is to force you to eat it. They don't give a f*ck if you grow up to not like it. Heck, surströmming is fairly popular in Sweden even though most non-Swedes and plenty of actual Swedes think it is disgusting. Pickled herring is a classic on the Christmas table and is well loved by many. Would you eat it?
      Taste is in part inherited based on what the mother was eating during pregnancy. Before refrigeration fresh produce was a rarity. In Northern Europe people often relied on meat to survive the winter. It was easier to store fodder than fresh food. Smoked and cured meat was also easier to keep during the cold months when nothing would grow.

My younger son absolutely loves nearly all vegetables: he does a happy dance when I buy broccoli! Other than that, she's pretty easy to feed with grilled chicken or a quesadilla.
