Society constantly asks the question: “where are these kids’ dads? They need a father figure in their life” When a mother is raising her children alone, but when a father steps up and raises the children alone it’s considered emasculating and against gender norms. What a double standard

Therefore it is very common for such women to get trapped in toxic relationships once they become adults.

I grew up with a pediatrician mom and a stay at home dad. Let me tell you, my dad is not only a fantastic cook, but also a champion of ballet buns. My dad might not be perfect, but he is an amazing dad.

What’s the most shocking to me is that even the older generation cares less about the stereotypes of gender roles. That was the most wholesome thing ever.
These days, the ideals of hate and division are spread like gospel. Back then, it was a lot more of parents teaching their children to be good, kind people. And although things are objectively better today, we must weed out the division and keep everybody on one page.
My father was a stay at home dad. He is a disabled war veteran. He taught me so many things and I can't thank him enough, he is the strongest man I have ever met. ❤️

one of the things that made me madist as a stay at home dad is when people would see me with my kids and ask, "oh, are you baby sitting them today?" i be like, "no... i'm fothering them today... becuse i'm there fother... and thats what we do."
I'm a daddy's girl. He's from where I learned that I wanted to become an aerospace engineer, and go to college to work on missles and spacecrafts. My mom never taught me such things. Dads are amazing!

My dad died when I was 11. I was attached to his hip. I’m 32 now and till this day the 11 years I had with him nothing has matched that. He was amazing.

I lost mine a few years ago and it still stings every day... but nothing is ever gonna change the fact, that he was your Dad and he loved you something fierce.
Fighting back tears reading this. My dad lost his dad at exactly 11 years old as well. My dad said they were so close and he was his everything. Unfortunately my dad did not give my brother and I the same relationship and bond and chose alcohol over us and it has affected my entire life. I’m 40 years old and I’m still dealing with the trauma of not having that bond. I envy those who have / had that (but not in a jealous way )
When my daughter was young, I would take her to a local restaurant. All the waitresses knew she was my daughter, but would always comment, "oh, are you babysitting today?" I would reply, "no, I'm with my daughter."
I was a stay at home dad, my response to the "are you babysitting" question was "no I'm parenting, babysitters get paid and a day off"

I’m unemployed for now. My father always work outside from home. Wish he would’ve stayed at home full time everyday and raised me. It’s an honorable job. More than just work.
I'm childfree but I love seeing stay-at-home dads because these are men who love their children and spending time with their children and didn't just have a kids to "spread their seed". They're actually being responsible for the human life they created. I also just love seeing them interact with their kids. I once saw a dad with 3 of his kids and when it was time to leave the park he just said "Come on buddy!" And it totally warmed my heart.

I was raised mainly by my father because of my mother’s mental illness. He would take me everywhere with him, on day trips and all sorts of things. He is a wonderful father and I would be very upset if someone treated him this way.

I always had a bit of resentment but now I understand fully. I love my father and I always try and be a better father to my child give them time and everything. I also teach them to be humble, nice, and I couldn't be more proud straight A student. You can always be a diff kind of parent, my mother was horrible 🤣 but I just take it as a lesson of someone I dont want to be.

My husband is a SAHD, and our home would cease to function without him. He does EVERYTHING in the house, and I do everything outside the house. For Saturday, we go out together for our morning "date" together to do grocery shopping since our kids are old enough to be left by themselves for several hours. For us, we have kind of a traditional 1950s marriage, but the gender roles are reversed and it happens to work for us.

My siblings and I were raised by a single father. My dad took me shopping for a prom dress, taught me how to walk in heels, talks to me about boy problems and even bought me my first training bra. If someone talked to my dad like that I would be furious. My dad takes pride in being both a dad and a mom. And he pulls all the ladies, no one should say that it’s not masculine to love and take care of your children.

I was raised by a single father. It was probably the best thing to happen to me he taught me what love was as well as he was there with me to talk about my problems and along with my grandma taught me what periods were and bought me my first products I needed when I was embarrassed. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my dad and if someone talked to my dad that way I would seriously be furious. I needed my dads love and perspective to be where I am today

Me and my siblings were raised by our single father. He passed away from Cancer in 2018 this was so touching to see! My dad played both rolls amazingly, always put us first and was the only support we ever needed! Dads can do it all! Props to single/stay at home parents!

Growing up, I have a stay at home Dad while Mom was out working. That shows me Fathers are capable to do Mother things and vice versa.
Stay at home dads are a win! I am glad more men are there for their children more and more, also giving mothers an opportunity to work as hard as they want. I am glad to see the push for women who are hard hard working and dads that are there for their children and families in a nurtured and supporting way. Mothers have good instincts naturally. @Owen Cadavos I think it is sometimes harder for Dads being the parent who takes on the home responsibilities because it can be more isolating as there are not as many of you and you dont always get the same support from other stay at home mums networks...often because people are afraid of gossip if they look like they are too friendly with a stay at home Dad. It can be quite lonely I imagine.
Unfortunately, being a stay at home parent means no one ever tells you you are doing a good job, and that's no different if you are a woman. As a woman, especially a single mother, the world just wants to say you are useless and your children will be a disaster. You have to find the resilience and confidence in yourself that you know you do a good job, you have good priorities, you love your kids, discipline them when needed and take care of them and their home.
A man does what he needs to and takes the responsibilities that are best for the overall wellbeing of his whole family and it sounds to me that is exactly what you are doing. Do not let small minded fools get to you one bit...you need to stop caring what others think and care about what you think and your children need from you...and that is being the parent at home looking after their needs. That's a man. I wish you all the best and hope that you remember that what children value, whether you are the parent working at home or the parent working outside the home, is that you love them and are interested in them as people and give them the best attention you can give them whatever long or short time that is available to you.

It doesnt matter who stays and works in the home and who is working outside of it or how that balance is split...the priority is doing what works for your family unit for the best outcome for your children. Sure it is seen as feminine in most cases in todays society but it actually used to be masculine a long time ago. Being comfortable with your masculinity means being able to do whatever you wanna do even if its seen as feminine. I think its so important to let go of toxic masculinity, we shouldnt try to push people to fit into boxes, we should try to embrace our differences as those define our individuality and make us special. Nobody actually wants a world where people are the same, that would be so boring...

I also know a family who kind of falls into this category. The dad does have another job, but he has a very small farm, so he's at home the entire time. The mum works in the city in a well-paid job. This is extra great in my opinion: Not only is the dad there for his kids 24/7, they also have gotten to know how a farm works and lived in contact with animals and nature from day one. Seems like a pretty amazing childhood to me.
My dad retired at 50 when I started university and my mom continued to work (and still does). Having my dad home full time has made our home more balanced, and stable. He is so dependable and the rock of our family! Whenever a child gets more time with dad than usual, it’s a great thing. I am now in my 30s and I can say that I have a healthy and realistic outlook on men because of my dad’s constant presence at home :)

Both my parents raised me, and both of them had a job. My father was an university teacher and my mother worked in an office. I love them both.

My daughter's mom passed away when mija was only 4. I raised her all on my own. Yes.. we can handle mommy business. @@RemHayden1806 Thank you, but it made me strong, gave me strong morals of whats right and whats wrong, showed me exactly what I didnt wanna be, taught me sympathy for others, and I can spot a manipulate and abusive person a mile away. I can't undo the past but I can learn from my fathers mistakes and I think how we handle our problems is what defines us as people. I hope to make a difference in the world and change it for the better, even if others may call my generation childish and unrealistic, all we want is a change for the better and I know we'll make this a reality. I dont regret my past, and yes its hard, sometimes all I wish for was a loving dad because of how heavily it still affects me today, but I will overcome it just like I did him. I want to be a role model for others and show even if you have 19 years of heavy abuse and trauma you can overcome it and be happy. So if you or anyone else is struggling dont give up because we'll over come it together

I'm so close with my dad. My mom traveled for work and my dad was at home, he worked(mostly from home) and went to school. Even when my mom stopped traveling you don't get that time back. You learn so much from a present parent than an absent one. I'm thankful for what they provided growing up, but you can provide and still emotionally and physically check out.
My dad is a stay at home dad. He worked nightshift for 10 years at a grueling factory while raising me and my sister to support my mom's dreams through college, and after everything she works her dream job and is making enough that my dad no longer needs to work! 5-6 years ago he was able to quit and raise my (now 5) year old sister while my mom worked. My parents love each other a lot and honestly stay at home dad's deserve upmost respect because it's the same as stay at home moms! My dad is amazing and he does everything for our family at home, my parents have it very even and I can tell they wouldn't want to trade it for the world. I hate when people sh*t on this kind of thing because honestly, why? It's really irritating

as a girl who was raised by a single dad, this hits close to home. my dad would braid my hair before school, he'd cook dinner for us every evening, he would paint my fingernails for me(he actually did my right hand for me a few days ago lol). stay at home dads and single dads are so underrated. they love the child just as much as any mother would, sometimes even more in cases where the mother is abusive. AND being a primary caregiver for a young child is a tough job, so not only do stay at home dads deserve respect, but so do stay at home moms.
Same here! Though it's my mom who taught me how to paint my nails 😅😅 But it's my dad who styles my hair when I was a kid. He's a great cook, carpenter, plumber, and heck he even did some of my school projects because he's an artist. I'm a proud daughter of a stay-at-home dad! 💙💙

I think gender isn't a defining factor of parenthood. Why? My parents both work and my mom was only good for cleaning the house, when I was 10 I started cleaning it, and now she's just here in this house to complain. My father despite his mental illness cooked at lunch, showed me how to handle bureaucracy, took care of minor repairing jobs and taught me, took care of bills too. My mom couldn't even braid my hair, I literally watched a RUclips video because she didn't know how to, and never cared to learn.

There's so many children in the world with parents who are unkind to them, or don't even have any. One good, loving and supportive parent is better than none. When I was in school we had certain mornings called donuts for dad's and muffins for mom where kids would eat breast with their mom or dad, but kids who only had one parent and who wanted to attend both was always an admirable thing.
To all stay at home dads: We (us kids who were raised by you primarily) love you, and you’re doing what a parent should do- the best thing for the kids. Dont listen to broken people who have no idea what parenthood should be like. Keep being awesome!!

My adult son has 2 children and I am proud of him for many things, but I'm MOST proud of him for being a great dad. 💯%
When our kids were little, I worked and my husband stayed home with them. We really didn't want them in daycare and I just happened to make more. Him and our kids loved it. He is such a great father to our kiddos. The women around us had questions and the men were just miserable. They always treated him like he was less than a man because he took care of the kids. Honestly his time with the kids was full time and 100% harder than my job every could have been.
Went through this when I became stay at home Dad. I had a brain injury that took me out of the workforce. I wanted to be a viable member of my family so I became a stay at home Dad. I don't know why so many of the guys I was friends with reacted so negatively. Six months later I only two friends I can really talk to. Thank God for the stay at home Dads support group where I live.

My husband was a stay at home father until a few days ago. He’s incredible.
There’s nothing that defines a man more, in my opinion, than the role he takes on with his children if he chooses to have them.
Being an active, positive part of your children’s lives goes so much further than financially providing for them. My sisters partner is a stay at home father, he’s not less of a man for not being the main breadwinner. He cares for the home they all live in, and the people in it. I have so much respect for him.

As someone who works with kids (at a daycare), hearing one of the "dads" say that taking care of kids is not a real job, I honestly got mad. And also, tell my grandmother and many of the women of her generation (she was born in the 1950s) that being a stay-at-home parent is not a real job and they'll get really pissed off.
