Okay for real, shoutouts to discord user @Fug Ebin Meme#9912 for their handy little program that lets you turn on pentoes in non-party-mode Tetris, amongst other things.
I've been trying this for a while and I'm very glad I finally managed to get a run with only pentrises cleared. Starting off the year right, it seems.

I did this a few times in party mode to see what would happen if I cleared 5 lines. By seeing "Tetris Plus" I thought I found something unholy. Now I see this and I no longer feel special.

My favorite tetris game is magical tetris challenge on N64 (has pentaminos and other sick pieces in VS), so this makes me happy to watch

This video reminds me of how the original creator of Tetris wanted to use pentominos but it was to complicated and not as approachable so he use tetrominoes instead, yet in the end pentominoes they still found there way back in 30 years later.
I guess we got better at the game since then, although there are ways to make pentoes more manageable, like a bigger field. Even two extra cells of width help considerably.

@@ananshasheta926 the X pentomino, by far. It combines the complex shape of tetrominoes S/Z, and the no rotation of O. Literally only usable if your field has a valley or a 3-wide well.

Hey! I was checking your channel and I've noticed that you're quite knowledgeable about tetris mechanics and overall strategies. I was wondering if you could explain to me a little further about how optimal are the strategies used for the different tetris games and why they are considered "optimized".
I don't know about the strategies for all the games, but when it comes to guideline, the rules have more or less been the same for the past 18 years. This leaves plenty of time to notice everything and see how things work and use that to our advantage, for example with how 7-bag randomiser is key in openers or Playing Forever loops. Still, new builds still come out every now and then, especially with how the games had an increasing focus on multiplayer lately, bringing more brains to the table to come out with high-IQ strategies.
When it comes to TGM or NES however, I would assume the strategies are more about doing the most of what you have, since there are no guarantees on the pieces you get. You can acquire some better playing habits through practice and learning the mechanics of the game in more detail (I would say mostly rotations for TGM and general piece movement for NES), but it's less the kind of things that you can find on a wiki for example, aside from general tips, because these games are less deterministic.
But in both cases, I think the best players in each game have pretty optimised ways to play, either through learning the game mechanics, or gathering knowledge. It won't ever be perfect, but I believe Tetris is the kind of games where even a bloody robot won't play perfectly, so anyone is free to come up with and share their own style, to bring more ideas to the community.
@@Oshisaure I see, the question mainly arises due to the fact that I've always been quite interested about the whole mechanic and how different games have different strategies; specially in tetris 99 and PPT. I'm a mathematician and I've thought about making my thesis about it, so I've been trying to gather a bit more info overall to see what problem exactly I could attack there.
