Yes Leo did really cut himself by accident in the dinner table scene, but before he smeared his hand over Kerry Washington's face, the scene was cut to treat his hand and to use fake blood for that part. In these times there's no way that an actor would be allowed to rub real human blood over another actor's face and mouth.
Nominated for 5 Oscars including Best Picture, but won for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor Christoph Waltz.
And best sound design if I remember correctly
The man stole the show. Deserved.
DiCaprio is a close 2nd though. The man played Calvin Candy like a glove. 👌
This, and Inglorious Bastards are my favorite Tarantino films, and 2 of my favorite movies in general. Christoph Waltz's performances in both of those films are SO amazing, even though his characters are basically complete opposites. Everyone in this film absolutely killed it, and I've been so excited to see your reaction to this movie. Love it, keep up the fantastic work Oscar! And congratulations again on 10k subs, here's to 10k more and then 100k
Christoph waltz was so good hey!! And thank you ☺️☺️
I feel the same way.
Same here.
💯💯 👌
The amazing Walton Goggins is in this. He was great in The Shield. He was great in Justified. He is great in The Righteous Gemstones. Though a smaller part, he is also great in this. Best Southern accent in Hollywood.
He kills it whatever he’s in! Blew my mind in Sons of Anarchy, he’s under appreciated imo
Jackie Brown is a bit different but equally genuis. From an Elmore. Leonard novel with Pam Grier, Robert DeNiro, Samuel L & Bridgette Fonda. Also the late great Robert Forster. I love Quenton & Elmore.
Ach! I had to step out of the theatre during the mandingo fight the first time I saw it. But I do love the performances in this. Waltz is one of my favorite actors, so I hope you get the chance to see more of his work.
The shot of the woman being yanked out of frame after Django shot her is a nod to the old westerns where they didn't show women being shot on screen.
You haven't seen the Kill Bill movies yet??? Oh man, BEST FEMALE LED ACTION MOVIES EVER MADE. The music is A+, Uma Thurman plays the part PERFECTLY, and one part is so bloody that they had to go black and white to avoid a NC-17 restriction that would keep it out of theaters. A heartless, calculated massacre born of heartfelt retribution and the wrath of a woman scorned. Those are 2 of the best films I have ever seen, with enough twists and perfect writing to keep you glued to your seat and thinking of it for hours afterwards. You've GOT to see them, I know you love Tarantino
What's impressive about Christoph Waltz performance in this and Inglourious Basterds is that he's playing two polar opposite characters and nails them both, which isn't an easy thing to do as an actor, and we see that with a lot of actors, which more or less play the same kind of role from movie to movie and it's remarkable he wasn't discovered sooner.
The actor playing Amerigo is Franco Nero, the original Italian DJANGO from 1966 by director Sergoe Corbucci.
Fyi i cant think of a single Tarantino movie that isnt a banger. Alot of good flicks to come. Excellent genuine reaction.
Quentin Tarantino worked on a sequel which unfortunately was never made. They eventually turned the unused Script into a Graphic Novel. It is called Django & Zorro. It teams up an older Zorro with Django to free a town from an Evil Dictator. I read it and It would have made a great movie.
Christoph Waltz is one of my favorite actors. He's great in "water for elephants" as the charismatic yet menacing circus owner. Reese Witherspoon & Robert Pattison are also in it.
Another good movie is what's eating Gilbert grape
Yes! Underrated film.
It's not the first video I've seen and I really appreciate the way you make them. Seeing a movie in your company is so comforting! Congratulations, I'll come back to see something together.
this and once upon a time in hollywood are my favorite QT films. i really hope you react to that one soon!
Quentin grew up in LA, so his films set in LA really fit him like a glove, especially OUATIH, a tribute to the LA of his childhood and the entertainment industry.
Looking forward to you getting to *Death Proof* one day. Tarantino said it's his least favorite of the movies he's done but I think it's great and super exciting.
Yes it's his worst film and it's still pretty good.
I'm not a dicaprio fan, but Quentin got THE best performance of his career out of Leo. He did the same brilliant direction with LD in Hollywood. But this is a BRILLIANT performance. He'll never do better. Leo I mean. And Jackson as well, a BRILLIANT performance.
23:40 Your reaction to QT’s accent 🤣🌏
I love every character in this epic film, particularly Steven! He used & abused his “power” & became *the* central villain.
What bothers me is why Doctor Schultz shot Calvin, given his meticulous planning beforehand and intelligence, he should have known all they worked for would go to waste.
Also, my other interpretation is that just like before when that kKK gang weren't letthig them leave even after business was conducted legally - I think he knew Calvin was much worse monster, and he knew he just wouldn't let them leave no matter what - and so he wanted to make sure he was killed before the inevitable.
I think Schultz refused to shake Calvin’s hand because he wasn’t about to dignify him like that. He was so beyond disgusted with everything he witnessed, being expected to shake hands was the last straw. It was definitely an impulsive and unwise decision to shoot Calvin, but, it was serving justice in Schultz’ mind. I wish he didn’t because I would’ve preferred him to live, but storytelling wise it was brilliant.
Django always makes me think of a movie i saw in the 60's, The Skin Game. James Garner pretends to own Richard Pryor, sells him, helps him escape & moves on & sells him again.
This is just about my fav Tarantino movie
The acting is AMAZING (why tf did Leo not get nominated??), the script is amazing, the story is basically perfect….
I know basically everyone is aware, but when Calvin Candie screams and the men barge in, DiCaprio hit his hand on the table and ACTUALLY broke a real glass, and had to get stitches….. but, he acted through the scene with a shattered hand, in character, and improvised the blood on Brumhilde’s face too…. It’s kinda like Vigo Mortensen actually breaking his toe while kicking the helmet thing 😂😂😂 I LOVE this film
I adored this reaction so much & cannot wait to see you watch Kill Bill, my fave ever. I know you’re gonna be blown away. ♥️
The actor playing Butch is James Remar, he played Ajax in the 1979 must-see movie THE WARRIORS by director Walter Hill.
Yes exactly, the amazing Verhoeven and John Woo style of blood packs are so much fun and deliver like no other.
We used to play Django as a drinking game in our shared flat. You have to drink one for every N-word. The first half of the movie is easy and then there's a scene where it's said 20 times. 😅
Leo DiCaprio actually hurt his hand and the blood is real, he decided to continue the scene and it's just so perfect.
He did cut his hand, but they came back and added fake blood to finish the scene.
The blood he wiped on the actress’ face was fake. But yes he did really cut his hand. I’m not sure why people spread the rumor he wiped real blood on her face because that would never be allowed to happen, and, if it did, he and Tarantino would be in for a huge lawsuit.
Jamie Fox was so cool in this role! It was fun. I'm glad you liked it too.
This was a treat ! I am not fond of the topic matter but Django is a Hero and I adore that very much . I enjoyed your reactions and comments for Django Unchained .....a new favorite for me now . Seeing Leo and Samual as villains in this was such a great change of pace ....although I like them both better as good guys in movies they both were incredible as the villains . Thank you for this reaction
Fun fact: Jaimie Foxx ended up keeping that horse.
Iirc they cleaned his hand and added fake blood to that scene so it wasn't real blood he was smearing on her face
Great reaction mate, hope you didn't miss the fact that when Django bursts in and shoots the Slave trackers towards the end, he shouts D'Artagnan's name - brutally avenging his death - one of my favourite bits that goes a lot under the radar,
I loved watching your reaction. You’re adorable! You’re authentic enjoyment made me smile. I needed to smile today. Thank you.
Hearing your reaction to Tarantinos accent is honestly the first time I even considered that he might be attemptiong an australian accent... So bad! :)
Franco Nero, who knows the 'D' is silent, played the original Django character in the 60s.
This movie is crazy good in the most unexpected ways
Jackie Brown is the most underrated Tarantino movie. True Romance written by Tarantino is a must watch also.
New subscriber here. I really enjoy your movie reviews. I'm hoping you'll get around to watching the Kill Bill series from Tarantino. They are spectacular!
Cheers for joining! I will 👍
Contrary to the narrative of the movie, it would not have been uncommon at all, to see a black man on a horse, in Texas, at this point in history. There was most definitely such a thing as black cowboys.
A film i think you'd like and react to is Seven Psychopaths
Great reaction
Your should check out “training day with Denzel”
Iove Ieo in this one but I think waItz performance was a bit undertone for how good he is as an actor, in IngIorious basterds waItz reaIIy shines Iike no other; But I have to say kiII biII is by far my favorite Tarantino movie, those two fiIms that are unmatchabIe even by Tarantino himseIf
I watch al your movies. You are a pure person. Great compliment to you.
Thank you ☺️
Please also do Kill Bill 1 & 2!
Brilliant
Thanks, Oscar! ⛓ This one and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009) are prime doses of revenge fantasy. #TheCocoaCouch #QuentinTarantino #DjangoUnchained
If you like this action love story, you should check out True Romance. Originally written by Quentin. It's a fantastic cast and film!
Really enjoyed your reaction. Me & my sons saw it in theaters and loved it. It took me thru every emotion sadness, rage, laughter and hope. I agree wholeheartedly, at its core it’s a love story which I was not expecting. This and inglorious bastards are my fav Tarantino movies.
Making up for a couple weeks for the cocoa fund! Cheers my friend!! “He looks like he owns KFC!” 😂
You had to censor so much!! Omg
You should do the story arc of Daniel Craig’s 007! Casino Royale, quantum of solace, SkyFall, spectre and no time to die!
Dude your an absolute legend for real. Really helping me out ☺️ cheers. Made my day haha.
@@thecocoacouch always got you Oscar! Keep up the great work!!!
I know there'd be no movie, but: Why didn't Schultz go to Candyland alone and say, "Hello, I heard you have a slave who speaks German. I speak German and would love to buy her. I'm willing to pay whatever it takes?"
Also Hilde and Django share the same burn scar.
Good reaction 👍🏽 i think you would enjoy reacting to:
Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino both directed by Clint Eastwood
Inglorious Basterds: fantastic historical fiction about Jewish vengeance.
Django Unchained: fantastic historical fiction about Black American vengeance.
Edit: I can't BELIEVE you didn't include ANY of the showdown between Django and Steven! That was the most important part of the 3rd act!
He got the same laugh as them white men in the movie 🤣🤣 how ironic is that
this is what i mean, fantastic film right until chistoph waltz gets shot, then its pure silliness. fight me lol
If he wanted five fights for $500, he should’ve realized that if he already got four then he was only owed $100
👌
Yeah it's a great movie so it's fried green tomatoes too.
Tarantino makes a helluva movie.
Hey Oscar, I'm really worried. Every time you move, that mirror in the background is shaking. Please fix it somehow :)
His Australian accent was the only thing that kept this film from being perfect
Kill Bill would be awesome.
Good movie, but you need to check out the original.
Ephesians 6:5-8, Paul states "Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ". geat book the bible....
Paul never condoned slavery, but at this point in history, slavery was no where near as bad as it got later on. Paul also in the same passage talks about masters treating their slaves fairly and kindly (much like a boss in a workplace should to their employees). I think it’s important to know that on top of all this, lessons were taught to work within the context of the time and simply love was encouraged above all else regardless of the social norms. (Also fyi the whole fear and trembling had a different meaning in Hebrew and actually meant more of a respect and reverence) not nearly as bad as we would interpret today. I think we should all go to bible college to understand the word more hey!!
@@thecocoacouch yea this movie was also in context of the time, but you hate them , and then try to sweet talk the slavers in the bilble , kind of hypocritical.
The Bible has been used by humans to justify their own actions from the very start, with each one filling what _they_ thought it meant.
the part where u said u hate how they say they're doing the lords work is very provoking, cuz in the Bible, it specifically says SLAVES OBEY YOUR MASTERS
Ephesians 6 1Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
I believe Paul wrote this because in the context of that time, uprooting the “system” would cause anarchy and destruction but rather encourages masters to see their servants as equals and for there to be respect and fair treatment between them (he does not encourage the actual act of slavery). And of course the New Testament provides new ways of living that make a lot of what is commanded in the Old Testament obsolete. In the context of the film, evil men like this just use old scripture out of context to assert their own selfish beliefs.
This👆
And sorry, just to piggyback a bit, I also believe the conditions of slavery in Ephesus at that time were not the same as the time of slavery in this film, so I would agree the context of that time plays a factor of that verse. And yeah, it says a little later in that passage that masters should not threaten their slaves and they should be treated the same as them, which is something people with a mentality like the people in this movie chose to apparently ignore.
In the dinner scene, Leonardo DiCaprio's accident with the glass was an accident. He really cut his hand in real life, but carried on with the scene and improvised. So he wiped real blood on that woman's face.
He cut his hand indeed and continued acting the scene until the directed shouted cut so they could treat his hand. The blood he wiped on the woman's face was not his real blood.
The scene where Django shots an unarmed woman never sat well with me.
Yet everything she and her family did to unarmed men, women and children didn't bother you ?
@@bigb2494 Perhaps I'm misremembering the film as i haven't seen the film since it came out (Not a fan) but I don't really remember what her involvement was regarding the slaves treatment.
But it still seems wrong that the films hero would kill an unarmed woman.
@@keithalanbaker535 You don't have to have held the whip yourself to be responsible for the orders.
1:14 pretty much prove uve seen it before....
🤣 bruh I’m talking about the time period, not the characters in the film.
He has seen it before. He did a reaction to inglorious bastards months ago and towards the end of the movie he says “I haven’t seen a film with……since Django unchained”. I hate people who fake their reactions 🙄
Kerry Washington is completely underwhelming in this.
Interesting! I’m totally the opposite. Those punishment scenes were so powerful because of her acting, almost brought me to tears.
A lot of her scenes were cut out, because they dealt with her multiple rapes and abuse. The studios refused to green light it. They spoke of released an uncut director's cut, but the studio shut it down.
The Bible is fine with slavery.
This video popped up in my recommendations today, and I'm so glad it did because you are flippin adorable! That giggle is toooo cute! If you loved this, I can't wait for you to see Kill Bill 1 & 2, my favorites. Just subscribed 😊
There are so many layers upon layers upon layers in Tarantino's dialogue and scenes in every movie. He sets up Dr. Shultz to despise Calvin Candie before he even meets him. Shultz is intelligent, patient, calm, compassionate, sophisticated, and brimming with self-control. Calvin Candie is the OPPOSITE of all of those things. Calvin is a Francophile who doesn't speak French and knows nothing about the actual culture, outside of the most surface-level attributes. Dr. Shultz speaks French and has ACTUAL knowledge of the culture, down to the fact that Alexandre Dumas was a Black man. Calvin Candie indulges in sweets to the point of letting his teeth rot: Dr. Shultz is a dentist. Calvin is cruel and impatient: Shultz is kind and knows how to wait. Calvin is ignorant AND stupid: Shultz is well-informed and intelligent. Calvin has the audacity to give a lecture on a known pseudoscience, even at that time, TO AN ACTUAL DOCTOR. In parlor, he was forced to listen to Beethoven (as a German) while this disgusting puke of a man revels in his own repulsive behavior. The tension between the two was building in the dialogue and scenes, even leading up to their first encounter. By the end, Dr. Shultz just couldn't take it anymore. He felt that Calvin had to die by his hand, even if it meant losing his own life. I think Dr. Shultz knew that Django could handle everything on his own by then. He was right. ❤
I enjoy saying the N-Word. Cool movie though.
Want a medal racist?
