- We go through the picture settings on a 42-inch LG C2 OLED TV, which should also be the same on other OLEDs in LG's 2022 TV lineup, and found one surprising change in the [OLED Motion] submenu.

I haven't seen an alert for any recent uploads from you. So glad I got this one. I look forward to 2022 reviews! Thank you my friend!
No alerts in your subscription page section? I always see people complain about this, but I’ve never experienced it.
Thank you for all your great videos. Could you make a best lg c2 settings for ps5 video like you did for lg c1. The settings from the c1 video were confusing when I tried to use them on my c2. Thanks
Agree
Were these settings not good for use on the ps5?
I prefer the less fussy layout of the cx menu.
I yelled so loud that 1 of my eyes popped out.
This is really happening, FINALLY!
lol
i tried to set my tv exactly as you did but in some settings you did not specify what the ideal seting should be...for example, what should i set the oled pixel brightness to? you only mentioned you made it low for the purpose of recording the screen for the video but not to what level one should set it
Go to rtings and look at their calibration. They mention for Dolby vision to keep it default. The default brightness for Dolby vision is 100. I forget what they put the hdr content at, but you can see all their settings. Only thing I changed was putting she sharpness down to zero because Vincent mentions he puts it at zero no matter what the content is. Where rtings just mentions to keep everything default on vision. But they're reputable and I've recommended them to others.
@HDTVTest can you please make a video for gaming on consoles with the LG C2 please! And thank you.
Those stands actually will work quite well with a mouse and keyboard setup. Nice.
Vincent, we need more details on the TV! Are you reviewing it?
Where did you get it and how much?
I’ve been waiting to get one of these for use as a monitor… any ideas on how well it would work? There have been plenty of people who’ve used the 48in model as a monitor previously with varying results… hoping the 42 works a lot better due to the size…
I think he got invited by LG to show it.
Yeah he said he was at lg UK headquarters
@@geiers6013, @ThePaulg123, ah ok, I must have missed that in my haste of replying whilst watching the vid!
@@ImaginaryWorld I dont think the C2 is in retail yet, but you can preorder. I think it will be good, because all LG Oleds before were very good for gaming and as a monitor. You could also consider this curved Alienware QD Oled monitor, but I would also prefer the 42"C2.
@@geiers6013 unless you play ps4/switch then is terrible for gaming
Vincent were you able to take a look at the new game optimizer options? At CES I noticed LG had a video that looked as if they had an option to put an app on screen in picture in picture while in game mode much like Samsung has already where you can pull up a youtube video in the corner while playing I am wondering is this indeed what that was?
On the C1, the web browser can appear as picture-in-picture over any other video source.
I have the sports updates feature turned on for my favourite teams and this initially shows a small overlay with score updates.
Pressing 'more details' then launches the browser in a small window that overlays whatever you were previously watching.
It's a nice little feature that I enjoy using, you can also move it around to different areas on the screen.
Is this what you're expecting? What other apps in particular?
@@ImaginaryWorld I think @Tech With KG is referring to specifically when playing games on game mode that on the C1 it is not possible to have PIP with say youtube mirrored from your phone. Any other setting is fine but when playing games this is not possible but probably the best time to have it so that you can watch gameplay runs with achievements over the top of you playing though your own game. I hope that made sense
@Earthplayer I'm on an Xbox SX. The PIP works on other things but not when on HDMI. Not bothered about VRR being turned off when using PIP as I would be useful Ng it for walkthroughs only and not competitive stuff so VRR is not really needed then. Would be good if Xbox brought back the snap feature or if LG allowed us to mirror my phone into PIP while in game mode
Hi. Is there by chance a video recommending the settings in Game Optimizer like you did for the C1? And thank you for these videos.
Thanks for the info. Looking to replace my bedroom TV with this LG C2 42 inch panel. Amazing that all the OLED demos look so good on my Sony XBR900F50. It’s surly must be my 84years old eyes.
I have a 950g (very similar) and HDR demos look amazing to me too..
It's not your eyes ;)
Enjoy it for $1900
@@josh8oh8 he's 84. What the fuck does money matter at that age?
Exactly, great size for a bedroom , small den ect . Shouldn’t have to buy 77” to get a decent quality TV .
Damn I didn't know 84 year old people watch and comment on RUclips haha
I can’t wait to get a the LG 42” OLED as a monitor for my office!
Have fun getting another in 2 years when it's burned out AF! Office work is about the worst thing you can do to these. Unless you seriously hamper your workflow to accommodate for OLED that thing won't last you very long.
Not to mention it's wasted on office work anyway. Some decent LG IPS TV (most other brands are VA) would fit that work better and is cheaper 🤷♂️.
@@Xirtamani Exactly
I intend on doing the same. Not afraid of any burn in myself.

Anxious for that G2 vid and the QD OLED vid.
We need the battle with LG C2 against the Alienware QD OLED!!!
No contest.
before that you need to watch this, when it comes to monitors vs tvs:
ruclips.net/video/3mTV1TOblbA/видео.html
@@whiskizyo2067 Exactly. If the Alienware is really not glossy like the rumors said then it is a auto win for LG.
I think LG may have made a mistake in their launch pricing of the C2 42 inch. LG was probably banking on this being bought by a lot of people to be used as a computer monitor/gaming display, but now that the Alienware QD OLED monitor was announced for the same price, I feel most of those potential customers will be steered towards the Alienware if they're strictly looking for a monitor/gaming display. In my opinion the LG will be less optimized for these use cases than the Alienware and that 42 inch TV seems like a bad value for more "television oriented" used cases when the 48 inch exists for the same price and the 55 inch inch C2 for just a few hundred $ more. Considering these things, we might see considerable discounts for the 42 inch if the demand is less than what LG anticipated. Finger crossed.
@@andymofoincross I agree with you about that Alienware QD OLED monitor.
Please help, what do you recommend, buy the LG C1 or wait for the LG C2???
All I really care about is the brightness increase and image processing quality comparison. See the difference between last years and this year.
the 42 does not have the evo panel
@@thomasfischer9259 I wasn’t thinking of the 42 more 77in - 85inch comparisons
Waiting for the HFW HDR settings video 😉
Is the C2 brighter in SDR? Is ABL less aggressive? Is it actually generally brighter than the C1?
Yes
This is what I want to know as well, if it's bright enough to use in my office where direct sunlight shines in from 3 sides.
@@BlackBruceLeeTheGreatDekuTree i also think yes but just slightly. I think it's back to C9 brightness level

Hey Vincent!
Will you be doing a Picture Settings video for the LG C3 as well? Getting mine in a few days and I always follow your tips, trix and settings 🙌🏻
Greetings from 🇸🇪
Are you going to do C2 PS5/XBOX SX videos?
Vincent will you be outlining your recommended settings for this at some stage?
I just got this and it’s amazing . What’s the best setting for gaming and what’s the best for movies ?
Trying to figure that out aswell! I have the 42 C2
It's ridiculous if LG have got rid of OLED Motion "PRO" on retail C2 sets. Why would LG do this?
Its really a shame. They kept on downgrading that feature. The CX for example had much better motion on high setting compared to C1 and now the C2 seems to be even worse.
Motion pro is disabled in game mode. You don't want it on. It'll give you a TON of input lag.
@@f900ex5 Actually its the only one available in game mode. Motion pro is BFI which makes high frame rate games almost lifelike in motion just like CRTs did back in the day.
You must be confusing it with Tru motion which is frame interpolation which does increase input lag.
@jzo C9/E9 series didnt have the great oled motion pro of CX
Sadly if you are a Retro gaming fan, the motion and input lag is still noticeablely short of CRT level. It's merely OK. Baffling why they would remove BFI, as future 240Hz models would have been very nice with BFI. Maybe there is a conflict with OLED tech in this regard. 😕
Love that they kept the same menus from the c1 👍
I need a review and comparison with the c1 quick!!!!
My x900h received an update today saying it has improved VRR. Will you be testing those VRR improvements?
thanks! Quick question did you go into settings and turn “hdmi deep color” to 4k? Or did you leave that off? When I turn that on most my content is put through HDR.
Is the 42C2 already out?! When will it be available in retail?
It looks that way
I think it will be about 1 more month before it's available for retail, but reviewers are starting to get early access so that they can put videos like the one above out.
When is the C2 being released? I want to get the C1 on sale
And for LG C2 55" and 65" ? Its not the same screen (EVO) and not the same settings
Could you please do a similar video for gaming settings, mostly for PS5?
Uggg, that stand though, I wish they would have kept the original stand, looks so elegant. They need to stop with these silly feet design monitors because it takes up space on the desk by protruding out.
Do you think the changes made (motion) depend on hardware or could be accomplished bia software?
Thanks for the video. Do you think this would be good as a computer monitor or a dedicated one like the new Alienware oled would be a safer choice?
Alienware no 4k
3:00 Warm 50 ?! It looks like I have always Flux/redshift activated (I have a 65in C2 ; I suppose it's the same panel) ; and blacks at 50 is a little bit faded, try to lower a little bit
Yes i have saw hardware unboxing they also said warm 50 for accuracy. I have my phone on srgb mode and the white on the c2 is much closer to my phone
When is this coming out please ?
You already have a review unit! Envious. I won't be able to get one until summer, but I can't wait. Perfect for my video post work
When will Tv be available on the 🇺🇸? Or if I buy this Tv from the 🇬🇧 will it work properly with my PS5 and streaming apps?
when can we expect a review? still debating between this and the sony a90k (which has my eye primarily coz it has a much nicer UI)
Look up the whole debacle with Sony TVs (X900H/XH90 especially) and HDMI 2.1 - you probably won't consider the A90K anymore after that. Even if the A90K would finally get working HDMI Forum VRR (no Sony TV has it atm), I doubt it would get working Freesync or G-Sync as LG has it. Also, it might look nicer, but usability of WebOS is in practice way better then Sony's stuff.
@@Xirtamani thanks for the suggestion. I'm still of 2 minds about it and VRR/Freesync/GSync isn't a dealbreaker for me coz I'm happy playing on 60hz. Mainly I wanna see if Sony has implemented anything similar to LG's Adjust Logo Brightness feature. Other than that, both of these are supposed to have EVO panels even if they don't get as bright, but if any one of them can be unlocked (like last year's C1), then that would be another thing to consider.
@@da_stash But especially at 4k on the PC it can be quite hard or not even worth it to maintain constant 60hz and you lose everything above it. I mean when the 1% lows are at 60fps of most games their averages are at 80-90fps not to mention the 0,1% lows you'd still see as stutter. There's a reason why VRR just swept through the PC market and became a de-facto standard for PC gamers so quickly. For consoles it's less of a problem since their FPS tends to be more stable and dynamic render resolutions (and now checkerboard rendering as well) made em even more stable when they were introduced in the PS3/360-era and are almost a standard since the next console generation.
Thanks for this! Is there a recommended settings for photographers? I use Lightroom and Photoshop alot. It would be good to know. Thank you
Hi Vincent, I just bought a LG C2 65. I can not see the pink tint from the site that would confirm an EVO panel as advertised. Can you confirm which panel I have if from Service Menu, 12. Oled Module Info 2 Shows: 08/40/1/03. It seems the WBE/WBC is not longer showing up in the service menu :(
Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful.
Hi Vincent, where is that C1/C2/G2 comparison? There seems to be no link at the end of this one and I cannot find the comparison in your list of videos.
Oh no I hope the bfi thing isn't as bad as it seems. Why would they do this?
I really do not want the curved Alienware but lg seems to want me to get it.....
Reduce blue light is my favourite setting. Makes using vivid and standard presets comfortable on the eyes
Vivid > all
On the C1. I don't have a problem (unless I'm there for 5 hours or so), so I leave it off.
I don't get why they don't put more appropiate name settings with an update for previous models. On top of that WebOS 6.0 on C1/G1 is atrociously slow - way slower vs C9/CX !-, software support is far from high standard vs firms like Nvidia or Apple... Sure they sell hardware rather than software but still...
Hi TDTV Can i ask if you had the choice of 55G2 OR LGC3 Which tv would you get its going on the wall ? also at same price as of now 24.1.24 cheers James
Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful video! I really needed this information!
We need Horizon hdr settings. You got your 100k views
I hope the BFI stays and is improved.
I guess I can forgive only 1 setting if it's well tuned, and since most monitors only have 1, but I hope LG really puts more effort into BFI. We want higher refresh rates, and higher brightness in BFI mode
This. So much this. I recently tested some old-school platform gaming (best played on CRT if you're a purist) on a VR headset. Those headsets use ultra-low-persistence displays and thus are almost motion blur free, even at 60hz, but with minimal flickering and it's such a breath of fresh air. I also love well implemented BFI in monitors and TVs but it's usually quite rare...
What about gaming settings?
BFI is literally the feature I care most about being developed further going forward.
Indeed, 'sample and hold which reduces motion resolution really is a bug-bear for OLED, BFI ideally needs to be at least 240HZ
@@leeboy2k1 CX has 240hz BFI. This is why its such a shame it no longer does on C1
The main difference which hinders the perception of smoothness is the fact that current panels use sample and hold to display the entire frame at once which leads to an 'on'-'off' cycle (with BFI), consequently causing a choppyness in motion (and perceived flickering in brightness level). With CRT only a single pixel was illuminated at a time (the entire image being drawn line by line, but only ever a single pixel being on screen), and so producing a constant brightness. BFI is a start, but it would be better if the image was dithered to have black pixels (so every other pixel as in a checkerboard) for each frame, and alternate *multiple times per frame*, not simply acting between frames, (preferably a multiple of the input frame rate); this would keep a constant brightness. But definitely, higher refresh rates are required to improve motion. (I mentioned this in a different comment thread, but thought it would be useful here too).
@@buzz.b Your suggestion wouldn't work for the purposes of improving motion clarity. The issue with sample-and-hold is that your eye is smoothly tracking the on-screen object, but as your eye continues to move over the lifetime of a frame, the display is feeding it out-of-date information for a large portion of that lifetime. If we're keeping the render rate the same, dithering the black pixels without actually updating that out-of-date information being presented towards the end of the lifetime of the frame would simply cause a dimmer but still blurry image. Now, dithering for the purposes of actually rendering at a higher target framerate is a different matter (i.e. something like dithered BFI+checkerboard rendering at 2x the framerate), and would help motion clarity.
@@Aurora12488 The main point I was making was that BFI results in a fluctuation of brightness (due to the on-off cycle), which must be avoided if there is to be any improvement in motion clarity. The eye's (or visual cortex's) persistence of vision (responsible for perceiving motion from the rapid succession of still images) is affected by the brightness of the image. The purpose of the off phase is to accommodate for the pixel response time: if a new frame is delivered within that time, then this will affect the image; if the response time is sufficiently lower than the duration between frames this would not matter so much. The example of dithering the image was only a suggestion of how to accommodate for the pixel response time whilst maintaining a constant brightness across the entire image. Ideally, the display's refresh rate should be greater than the input source's frame rate; critically the eye's persistence of vision must not be allowed to fix on a static image (dithering operating at a refresh rate greater than the frame rate was a suggestion to break that).
Price and release date in US?
The Tv Is Gorgeous 💞 Definitely Its Going To be My next Buy
Can’t wait to add this to my gaming desk set up in bedroom. Will double for streaming from bed. Only thing will be annoying is the stand, will have to get a longer desk lol
When can I order this in US?
Hi Vincent,
which TV would you suggest for my Bar, where the guests watch Soccer? It should be at least 75 Inches. I have a Sony AF9 Oled for my Home Cinema but I think Led is better than Oled for this type of usage in my Bar because Oled has higher Price, high energy consumption and burn in effect.
Is there any way to tell that we are in fact getting the newer WBE panel in the 42 inch model? And not the older WBC?
Can i use this guide for the LG G2 ?
Hey man, do you still recommend pc mode on a c2 for ps5 in 2023? Thanks!
Does this apply to the 65” c2?

Can you please do a best settngs video for C3 SDR, HDR and Dolby vision !
Please
CX or C1 owners, what brightness would you recommend setting an LG OLED to? I've heard 40 is a good safe spot.
I have mine at 100 OLED brightness, but I don't use my PC for hours a day
I should add I use my C1 as a monitor
i use mine (c1 48) on 35 most of the time.
when i'm consuming content (or playing games) and i bother to do it, i set it to 100. but truth be told, i usually just coast in 35 anyway. it's fine as it is.
my "console" tv (b9 55) is at full blast all the time.
My oled C1 65 inch is on 100 oled brightness for hdr. And 90 95 for everything else. Normal brightness settings is on 50 on every mode
I use 35. Exception is when I'm in HDR which is set to 100.
So excited for this tv. Pribably gonna buy one day one for a computer monitor.
wonder if LG sorted their audio lipsync issue? I have a C8 and it's still out.
Setting Trumotion to user=0 helps some, but audio still out a bit
please vincent, does the c2 suffer from vrr flicker ?
@CodeBreaker my LG 27GL850 doesn't
@CodeBreaker VA and OLED only.
@CodeBreaker It's very uncommon on IPS.
@CodeBreaker Get a G-sync ultimate module. Flicker free and variable overdrive. The real question is if LG OLEDs still have elevated blacks from VRR.
@CodeBreaker The Alienware qd oled won't because of the g-sync module but yea if you don't have a module it's inevitable.
No ABL disable options? The screen getting dim during gameplay in dark levels is getting annoying on my 48” on the PC
We need a c2 to ps5 settings please and thank you

Anyone know if there's a settings issue with HDR/UHD not working on LG Oled's with some Amazon Prime content?
Re the Motion Settings, its often said that dejudder is aimed at low frequency content like 25p. Does that still apply in PAL TV regions which use 50i (in other words, is 50i affected in the same way as 25p by this setting). With broadcast TV showing on my LG OLED B8 the dejudder setting does make a noticeable difference on slow panning shots, but I can't see deblur doing anything when I try adjusting it.
Related question about Real Cinema. Searching about this for this on line rapidly brings up articles related to 60 Hz inputs (3:2 pulldown etc. etc.) but how does this work when presented with a 50i signal. Very confused.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Wish u would post all your calibration settings, on all the tvs somewhere...
@rezargamer he's tested countless tvs over the yrs ?!?
@rezargamer Like have a reference list where u can go.
man, i'm moving to the UK in 2 weeks and I'm going to need a computer monitor. I really want a c2 oled but I don't think I can go without a monitor while I wait for it to release...
I really hope OLED makers will someday standardize the use of surplus pixels for image movement burn-in prevention.
-Right now I can't use the "Screen Move" feature because it stretches the image, you're not getting 1:1 pixel mapping anymore as soon as you enable "Screen Move".-
EDIT: I don't know why I thought it was stretching the image, I think the menu changes size or something weird but I tested the C1 on a technical monitor testing website and it was the same with "Screen Move" on or off.
It won't make much difference for me since I basically only play games with the HUD off, but if there's no image degradation then there's no reason not to use the "Screen Move" feature.
I still think substantial pixel over-provisioning should be standard on OLED devices, it adds minimal cost but you'd significantly extend the life of the panel.
@John Hooper Ok boomer.
Bro it moves it by a couple of pixels. You don't even see it when it moves.
Dude before I read your comment I thought something was wrong with my unit because I noticed my left bezel being thicker than the right one. Thank god it’s fine lol. Tbh it’s a (very) small price to pay for diode conservation.

Great stuff Vinny.
This is really upsetting. I just upgraded from an E7 to a 55 inch G3 and I can't believe I don't have BFI 120 hz. Why on Earth would LG remove a feature people praised so much?

Wondering if this will work for the C4 as well, I figure it will. Guess no one knows if LG changed up the menus or not for the C4.
I didn't see anyone answer this in the comments.
Do you use the same settings for the 55-inch?
Hi, when you change all those settings what's the TV mode under...Vivid, standard, APS, cinema expert etc... thanks..
I had enabled setting do pixel cleaning once the TV is off from OLED protection menu since I bought it like a year ago. Would something wrong happened to my screen? I don't understand this option as it doesn't seems logic that this option once enabled stays unchanged. If its a risk to use it often it should be automatically cancelled from schedule after first process is done. Should I worried? I never used option do it now.

This video shows Peak Brightness off in SDR, while RTings has it on high, which is more accurate?
Hi . Does the screen seem pinkish when viewing from an angle , whenever the screen is actually greyish/white
Vince, why are you taking about selecting rec709 or rec2020 when there's nothing on the screen that reflects that, there are other (very unclear) options shown
purchased the 55inch c2 and received yesterday , could not understand the swivel stand under the provided stand ,
wanted to lock it ? maybe i can take it out ? not in any other review i have seen , must be a new adition ?

lg should give a longer than one year warranty with this set , are they saying it might not last too much
longer than that ?

Will this 2022 linup finally have gigabit ethernet (and usb 3.0) out of the box?
Anyone know if the C2 48" will have FreeSync Premium Pro?
Tbh came here for some advice how to setup my TV as I'm not proficient in this area. As I understood, you didn't cover what settings will be best for most (SDR and HDR), you explained which setting does what? Don't know why people recommend this channel for TV amateurs as helpful. Posting this comment just to spare a couple of minutes to people that are looking the same thing as me.
Can i change a screen size?
8:09 you may notice here the G2 looks less saturated than the C2. This is because of white subpixel dilution, the brighter the panel the more washed colours become and this is why LG must remove the white subpixel.
further marginalization of whites. jk
that's bs, it's just because he's filming it with a camera and you're watching it on a different screen. don't judge picture quality from a video.
I dont think that was the case here. It was just a preview from a compressed youtube video and unless he says what he sees we cannot trust this short look. Nevertheless you are right in general considering LG wrgb Oleds. The problem is they cannot just remove the white pixel, because then like half of the (peak) brightness brightness would go away and the hdr performance would be destroyed. Samsung appearently found a good way with their QD Oleds, but LG would either invent some new Oled tech or use something similar to QD Oled to get rid of the white subpixel unless the efficiency of their Oled pixels would jump considerably, which will not happen. They made everything they could to improve efficiency already. Nevertheless I think it was the right choice from LG to go with the white subpixel, because until today it is the best consumer TV technology and maybe QD Oled will change that over the next years.
@@geiers6013 The video maybe compressed but the difference is quite apparent side by side and shows that the G2 potentially has lower colour volume which is expected due to the higher peak brightness. By removing the WRGB subpixel I did mean switching to RGB OLEDs that are found in smaller size OLEDs. WRGB was created at a time when RGB OLEDs were very expensive to manufacture at larger sizes. True RGB subpixel layout also allows the use of real time image-sticking compensation allowing greater burn in resistance. As HDR becomes more popular and WRGBs get brighter there needs to be a solution as this technology is a large bottleneck for HDR colour accuracy.
@@GraveUypo I wouldn't call it "BS" as Vincent himself states higher peak brightness on WRGB OLEDs results in loss of colour saturation/volume so it is expected regardless of video comparisons. I have calibrated my monitor to the sRGB colourspace and Vincent grades his SDR videos to Rec 709 which uses the same primaries so the comparison should be fairly accurate. Regardless I do think it's best to wait for official reviews where they will measure colour volume.
What’s the nits? Is it crushing the C1 with it now having evo panel
Is super resolution available in game mode or is it just locked to regular or cinema modes?
I need 3 of these on monitor arms for work.
I learned so much from this video, thank you so much Vincent
