Agree. I've been in a similar situation, father never pays, can't get it together. Luckily he's not ill. So I just work and provide for my kids. I worked, went to school, and cared for my kids. I've worked myself into a great career/salary. My kids see it.

The guy with crypto (who has done very well) reminds me of a Mike Tyson quote "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face" cash out man, pay of your debt, build up the emergency fund and invest the rest into the S&P 500 or mutual fund and enjoy your retirement in 30 years when you're a millionaire!

Caller stated she had “years” of schooling still ahead of her. In my state radiology tech is a one- or two-year program at the local junior college. Also, if he has early-onset dementia, he won’t be alive very long, statistically speaking.

You said the three major things are food, shelter, utilities where does medicines fit in the equations? I know a lot of people will forgo food to pay for their meds. I have started questioning myself as to whether it's a need or a want now do to your show. And it's working.

@renorob6170 the best. I'm still driving an 02' I got in 2010 after totaling my first 02'. It's been paid off since 2013-14. It got me thru a layoff and 4.5 years after when I didn't want to work, choosing instead to do side gig work. Now if I was as wise when I went back to and never got any more cc's I'd be alright. It felt so weird having so much money unaccounted for had to dig a hole. Wish I'd found Dave back in 2018 or at least 2022 when I started working again..I've probably flushed 75k down the drain.

Of all the Dave Ramsey cohosts, Delony is the worst to listen to. He is always off-topic. Delony's advice never makes sense, and I hope management talks with him to help him relax and stop cutting callers off while they are explaining their situation to reach a quick conclusion.

Finding balance is key-dismissing all BTC investments as ‘gambling’ ignores strategies like DCA, which has clearly worked for this investor. Risk management isn’t just avoiding volatility but knowing how to navigate it.

George has said some pretty ignorant things about my religion before so anything he says now is a bit sour. But, I’m trying not to judge their advice here. Although I think that Private Student loans are bankrupt-able- except it seems to be almost impossible to meet the qualifications of “hardship” required by them, thus, it’s like they are not.

Whoa!!! John you missed on the ex-wife in school who’s ex-husband has early dementia. She was telling you her ex is going to die prematurely and his NEW WIFE and the next set of kids he made with family #2 will be getting his retirement. AND if he does declare bankruptcy her home that he still has his name on will be at risk to his creditors. Too bad John and George got caught up in the “vindictive ex-wife” narrative instead of listening to the caller’s true concern, and very legitimate, concerns.

Grace - you need to work on this huge debt before you bring it into a marriage. Your parents are NOT responsible for the fact that they didn't warn you. Really? I am a retired high school teacher (35 years) and I KNOW that all kinds of information is available to students, not to speak of the Internet, but students want what they want. So get to work - do not burden a future husband with this and don't make the American taxpayer pay for YOUR choices and mistakes. And don't get married until you have taken care of at least a huge part of this. The time to pay it off is when you are single, you can live in a one-room studio and eat the proverbial beans and rice, and take care of your debt. And certainly don't blame it on God and a call to ministry - you can "minister" in all kinds of situations at church while you pay off your debt and think about full-time ministry later. The Bible addresses taking on debt - and the holy writ says to pay your debts and no borrow further money. Check on YRefy if you have private student loans.
