The tricky thing about places like this is that its all based on real science, but just slightly pushed beyond the purview of those studies. Fasting, Sauna, Cold bath, nutrient dense drinks, etc. are all proven to be beneficial within certain circumstances and margins, but as with all things blowing them up or pushing them closer to extremes doesnt make them better. Moderation of exposure and extent are what gives access to their benefits while avoiding their harms. Phrases like 'lay on your side to go into your liver', 'parasite-sapper', 'drawing out toxins' are all red flags of taking these concepts beyond moderation and into a potentially harmful place. I agree with people that express concern of particularly vulnerable people getting the wrong impression of a retreat such as this. Side note, REGULAR enemas are proven to be very bad, and demolish the normal flora of the colon far more then they detoxify anything, normal flora is a critical component in homeostasis and is an intense area of study for Crohn's research.

That's a very knowledgeable comment, packed with VERY good advice. Very true, 'detoxing' in this way is rather ineffective taking everything into perspective, particularly when compared to just eating healthily and normally, as we are supposed to do.

This liver cleanse is a typical or normal liver cleanse. Fast or no meat for a few days to build up bile. Gussle down an extreme amount of oil, which forces the bile ducts to release the bile and push out any gall stones. What she should have said was the stomach empties to the right, to make it easier for the oil to quickly pass through to the Duodenum.

You know fasting resets your body and gives your cells a chance to regenerate ? When your body is so busy detoxing it’s self and digesting food, it doesn’t get much of a chance to function properly. You should actually research how fasting actually is a benefit rather than be ignorant and speak on things so confidently when you actually don’t know anything about it. It’s a shame that you’re an adult and too lazy to do research before you try to be negative. You have that know it all perception but you really don’t know much of anything at all.

The parasite zapper is almost certainly utter nonsense. if you were going to put any real current through your body, the LAST place you would put it is on each arm, which makes the path through your heart. Electricians often put one hand in their pocket when they don't need both when handing high voltage, just for that reason, especially if there are hard grounds close by.
I don't know about the clay either, other than as a GI absorber, but fasting does have real, demonstrated benefits, from what I've seen..

There are many biofeedback/bioresonance devices used by clinicians across the globe. Clients are connected machine using both hands or wrists either by straps or rods. Feet and ankles are sometimes connected. Headbands also. The currents generated are not high enough to electrocute. The session cannot be compared to electrical work and electricians protecting themselves. I'm not sure about this machine however I was extremely ill years ago, and I sourced a much more complex machine than the one in this video. Over time, I became well.

A balanced diet of actual food, yeah. Of preservatives and chemicals, not so much. The entire story includes exercise, reducing stress, avoiding toxins, and several others. There is no one magic pill, even all of it is not a magic pill, but a band aid. And a balanced diet that is not organic doesn't provide many vitamins and minerals that are needed.
And GMO corn, as one example, is actually classified as a pesticide, so there;s that. That is but the tiniest tip of the iceberg, I am aware. There are definitely regenerative benefits to ketosis, though, through several modalities and for several channels. @@ElgarL

Hey guys! Firstly, I’ve been a huge fan of the channel for many years! I started watching you before Lenny was born and I think I’ve watched almost every video since. Parasocial relationships are a bit weird when you think critically about it, but I do see you like my friends, and as someone who cares about you guys I feel compelled to comment (but again, what does one comment mean in the grand scheme of things?).
I just don’t think it’s good for a sailing channel which focuses a lot on science and you even have super cool animations to explain things and then have a video about something that at best isn’t proven to give you any benefits in the long term and at worst can seriously harm people. Also, if you are promoting AG1 constantly then you shouldn’t need to do a “detox”, it just doesn’t make sense. Additionally, please don’t say that “drinking clay” detoxifies the body when it’s literally your liver’s job to do that. If you needed “detoxing”, you’d be in liver failure and you’d be hospitalized. Same with kidneys, if they fail you’re getting admitted to hospital. If this was done for spiritual reasons, so be it, but don’t mask it as anything else. As many have commented, running an electrical current to “zap bugs”? It’s honestly mind boggling. Finally, because I think I’ve gotten my point across, daily enemas? For what? To speed up a process your body naturally does which is to get ride of undigested food after it absorbed all the nutrients it needs? I think I’ve said enough. Again, like I said in the beginning, you’re like friends to me, you inspired me to sign up for sailing lessons last summer, your videos always make me excited to see where you’re sailing and seeing the beautiful scenery and beaches you get to enjoy, but this isn’t it.
    Edit: grammar correction

I love your content, your open mindedness and the authenticity of your lifestyle. However, I do not think this kind of content is something to promote on a channel that reaches 2 million people.
I recognise that we are privileged to be able to live vicariously through your channel (for free non the less!) and that you are in charge of your own content and what you upload on your channel. I'm genuinely happy for you that you seemed to enjoy this experience, but I am questioning why you've chosen to upload this when you are aware of how triggering this may be to a huge portion of your subscribers - who are also your dedicated cheer-squad, online support community and customers.
There will always be an element of 'if you don't like it - don't watch it' to these discussions, and I have chosen not to watch this. The thumbnail of this video is the issue. I watched the whole video and appreciated the perspective but I think having a "before and after" type thumbnail when discussing fasting contradicts everything you said in the video about this being an internal journey. The message of the thumbnail implies you are doing this for aesthetic body changes and plays into toxic diet culture. I hope you change it to one of the beautiful and zen looking images of the retreat itself not just your body

As a long-time viewer of your channel, I watched it for years, anxiously awaiting your quality content focused on sailing, sharing your observations on the world's many cultures as you experienced them first hand. I would venture that your viewers learned a great deal about our beautiful world vicariously through your first-class videos week by week. It now seems as though your channel has increasingly become a platform for health hacks (Better Help, AG 1, high-end detox centers, your personal exercise routines, etc., etc) and much less about sailing. We're all well aware that things and perspectives change in life, but the channel has veered way off course of late and would do well to get back to sailing and away from all the glam content.
While my comments may appear negative, that is not my intention. Rather, I wanted to share the opinion of someone who has watched you for years as your sailing skills grew along with your handsome family, but those same qualities that ran through your videos consistently, week after week have not been there for quite some time. In closing, I will apologize if either of takes offense, as I am hopeful that you might hear it as constructive criticism from an honest, long-time subscriber. My best wishes to both of you and the boys going forward.

I have been searching for a comment talking about gender bias in the research! What you shared aligns with my understanding as well. The research behind fasting has mostly been done on men because the male hormone cycle is 24 hours whereas female hormone cycles are, on average, 28 days, thus creating too many variables. I am waiting for more conclusive evidence to support fasting for women, and my guess is that it might be indicated for certain phases of the cycle and contraindicated in other phases.

It gives great rewards to the body and also increases energy, makes sleep better and brain function increases as well. It's extremely beneficial. I've been intermittent fasting for a while now. I haven't really lost much weight or anything in the process - which is to be expected since I haven't lowed my overall calorie intake - but eating in such a relatively small window of the day has actively resolved some chronic issues I used to have like heartburn. It also really helped balance my blood sugar levels so I far less often get tired during the day. I have had a great deal of pleasure from this family for years for which I am grateful but this kind of video and also the new boat, more about sporty racing speed than a family home, is changing how I feel. I do wonder if that boat was really what Elena would have chosen and why she is in need of so much therepy. I miss the old days on the comfortable family catamaran, sailing the world with proper space and accommodation for the children and crew.

Glad Elayna enjoyed and benefited from her fast and cleanse; Glad to have Riley's investigative perspective (skeptical in a good way) looking at things. Such a clever and funny way to present the alternative viewpoint, and keeping things down-to-earth and real.

  • @tcsadventures

I know nothing about fasting and even less about detoxing. It’s just not something I’m personally in to. But I don’t feel hurt that it’s something Elayna is genuinely interested in. Live and let live. Elayna and Riley are smart people and they knew this video would cause some controversy. In anticipation of the criticism they did a disclaimer in the intro and used Riley to get ahead of the criticism and point out that this all might be junk science - in a clever whimsical way (my favorite part of the video!). Although I doubt Riley is much into all this, I would bet that he would be the first to say: criticism be damned and let’s make the video. Of course a little controversy can be a good thing that drives views and comments. There will be plenty of strictly sailing videos to come. And if on occasion they do something outside that box - you can simply skip that video. I doubt it was intended as a personal affront. A little leeway to allow them to be something other than one dimensional may contribute to the longevity of the channel.

It's your body, your experiment - to echo Paul thank you too for being a great example of taking the time to care for your health. “The media talks about it”? I am a huge channel fan but I am also a health care professional and I am with the majority of commenters here. This was not okay, for several reasons but number one is the lack of solid data to support the positive benefits to such an extreme fast/enemas, and number two, the probable outcome of persons trying to do something this extreme on their own, possibly causing great harm. Read the room. Take down the video and go back to regularly scheduled programming; sailing the beautiful world with your beautiful family.

When I saw the thumbnail and title for this video I was more confused than anything else. Somewhere along the way I feel like you guys kinda lost your “magic”. I will not attack this video in particular but speak to more of a generalized feeling. Every RUclips channel has their “main” type of content and I think branching out and trying new things is good for your own mental health but also growth. That being said, since you guys announced your new boat I feel like all of your content has pivoted to a “look at us” type of vibe instead of “we’re just two regular people living on a boat”. Every once in a while you give us a nice long sailing video showing us the “raw” side of living in the water and everyone says it’s their favorite in a long time but then it’s followed up with something like this. You guys used to be one of my favorite channels because you didn’t pander to the algorithm or ads and seemed so genuine. Now the main vibes I get from your videos are “look at all this cool stuff we do or believe in and it’s way better than anything you peasants watching at home could do” I guess it boils down to, you guys used to be so genuine and down to earth and along the way I personally feel like you’ve lost your soul, you forgot what made your channel so great and have been wrapped up in this idea of “everything we do is correct, we know better than you and if you aren’t doing things like us you’re doing them wrong”

Losing weight is all diet. Exercise while dieting is ideal but will also make you much more hungry. Exercise will help you retain muscle during a diet and can actually make you think you aren’t losing weight because you’re building muscle at the same time. People get discouraged when they workout and diet and don’t “see results” on a scale. Personally I did a 10 month taco diet where I was only eating about 1000-1200 calories a day. I lost 50 pounds in that time and reversed my slow weight gain over a 10 year period. To lose 10 years of weight gain in the shortest amount of time possible was my goal and I did it in less than a year. I felt so much better during and after since. It also made me excited about food again and things taste so much better now. I eat cleaner, don’t need to eat as much, can skip a meal and not feel terrible. Life is just better now. I sleep better, my body doesn’t have inflammation everywhere like it did when I was overweight. I think most people would find that a better diet would help them. I’ve naturally fasted my entire life because I don’t eat breakfast. I’m never hungry in the morning. So that helps me but everyone is different.
