- James Preston Green was sentenced to six years behind bars, the maximum allowed, after he violated his probation on multiple occasions in December.
I had my last drink on Nov. 22, 1989 -- the day I began a 60-day sentence for my third DUI in 10 months. It was the worst day of my life -- but turned out to be one of the best as it started me down a road I wouldn't change for anything. I was 25 then. I'm 56 now and just celebrated 31 years of sobriety.
31 years ago + 25 years old would make you 56+ years old no?
@@TheCompton2010 Ha! Right you are. I fixed it. I was thinking about the age I got sober when I wrote my years sober. My age was a typo. I am indeed 56. Not to mention terrible at math, LOL! Thanks for the catch.

@@coltonc8894 Thank you. I guess it is amazing in some sense, but I was so done at that point. Jail has a way of putting a mirror up to your soul and giving you an ultimatum. For me, it came down to, "Do you want to live or do you want to die?" I honestly didn't know if I wanted to live right then -- but I was pretty sure I didn't want to die. I never thought I'd be grateful to be sent to jail but I was -- and still am. It saved my life.

It was midnite Oct 31, 1975 I was in an American Legion Bar. I turned my glass upside down and Doug the bartender asked, "another one, Joe?" No, I said and Doug that's my last drink, you'll never see me in here again. People around me heard what I said and they laughed. I left and never went back. That's the last alcoholic drink I ever had almost 46 years ago. Think of all the money I have saved instead of pissing it away.
It's a decision that has many positives other than just saving money ! I've never driven drunk but I came close .....I woke up in my driver's seat after passing out with the key in the ignition , I didn't remember getting in the car and it made me sick to think about what could have happened !
Back when a beer cost a shekel and a home cost $50k and there was no such thing as a DWI charge
I'll be looking at 33 years of sobriety on Jan. 1, 2020. It really was a wise decision for me.

@John Smith Damn straight. Wealthy parents who believe more toys will make up for not playing with a child. That a kid will be just as satisfied and feel emotionally cared for in the care of a nanny as it will in their own. Also one I see a lot is harsher punishments for minor infractions, justified because the child is privileged and they don't want it to be a spoilt brat. Also through spending little time with the child, they don't put the breaks on when it starts acting out to get their attention. By the time they get involved the child is already waaaaay down the wrong path. So they blame everyone else. They blame their friends and their parents as a bad influence, so ban them from seeing them. They blame the school for poor grades and so they move them. etc etc. They don't realise they are just isolating their already attention starved child from it's only support groups. There is no substitute for the time and love a parent should give.
@@Ebmoclas19 yes it's sad when kids aren't given attention. I know kids who are spoilt rotten with toys but those kids would be much happier with a $10 fake plastic toolkit if they could play mechanic with their dad. And all the naughtiest kids where I work, you find they don't have dads or are in a care situation.

Great call judge. Drunk drivers deserve jail
His attorney questions if jail is the answer. YES YES YES while he's inside innocent people's lives are safe to go about their daily routine safely. It's about time attorneys realised they are also responsible for the citizens in their community. How many years have they been trying to crackdown on offenders. They make their choice but anyone injured or killed dont have that luxury.
It's they job to defend they client. Period. No matter what kind of person they are. Everyone in this country is entitled to a defense attorney.
@@davidortiz3094 , Hey no kidding there David, but the man was 2 inches from killing another Loved one. And yes he deserve a defense, but come on man! How do you get out of that one? 6-yrs. That's it,.............. wow.
dell x I guarantee you his own lawyer low-key agrees but just is bonded by law to do his or her job.
@@brianmcgovern9005 sounds like you don’t understand how long six years is buddyguy.
@@michealstrom4425 I'll tell you what I don't understand there cupcake is the word you used "buddyguy" WTF is that supposed to mean.
That's 3 incompetent judges!
Its not incompetence, it's being on the take...
'Corrupt' might be a better adjective?
While driving Uber I picked up a passenger at 9:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning he was already drunk. It was fifteen-minute trip to a local's bar that he knew would sell him a case of beer on a dry day, like most drunks he told me his life story in fifteen minutes. Turns out he had four DUI's along with four kids from four different women and he had spent four years in prison all by age twenty-five. I told him he had a drinking problem and then advised him to bet the number four horse in the fourth race at Churchill downs today. He didn't leave a tip.
Way back I dated a girl who's dad was a judge. Her brother was often arrested for DUI. Every judge accepted bribes for his probation.
When it comes to dui at least, the majority of judges can be bought. Sadly, the people who could really use the break can't afford the cost of the bribe.
Our justice system isn't broken, but close.
The United States has the best justice system money can buy
@@mikesully110 If your pockets are deep enough or you have a connected family member
there isn't a more effective treatment than the sound of prison doors slamming behind you. It's a sobering sound.
Not true theres more drugs and alcohol in prison then on the street most the time
Disagree
I see what you did there!
@@isolatedlost2584 , there is also more unwanted butt sex, so there is still some deterrent value to prison.
That's the dumbest thing I've heard. You don't think you can get drugs or make hooch in prison? lol. Prison doesn't help alcoholics or drug addicts.
My uncle has been a drunk for 65 years of his life. But he stays home and gets drunk.
@El Salvador how so?
As long as he’s not hurting anyone. Just hide his keys.
@@bobbond6365 he doesn’t drive , just stays drunk at home .
@@marlboromatt5656 ; You’re right in a way, but he has to get to the liquor store sometime & is he sober enough to get there and back without killing someone .
@@bobbond6365 he lives across the street from a bar and a liquor store. He’s getting close to 80 years old and has been a drunk for 65 of those years .
It doesn't matter if jail is the appropriate place to get treatment, as his attorney suggested. Prison is appropriate to protect the public from people who repeatedly engage in behavior that puts others at risk.
Hey, he’s still there in jail, now that’s cool.
Amen.
"Son of a prominent jeweler". I was going to say "son of a something else"!
Hijo de la Playa Lol
Imagine if a black guy crashed into someone else’s car and then ran from the cops!! He’s not getting probation.
He would be dead with a body full of lead.
Sad person looking for likes and clicks, he didn't get probation, he's going to jail.
You ever get tired of playing the victim?
@@flower2289 do you ever get tired of hearing the truth? The reality is black men are giving harsher sentences.
Took four DWI's to get this guy behind bars , FOUR ! His attorney said , he didn't think his client would get treatment in jail .
Well , two other things he won't get there make it the right place for him , he won't get booze and he won't get the opportunity to drive drunk .
Judge gave him a Texas Schoolbook Suppository.
Was in court for minor infraction & a DUI prisoner was before the judge. The judge said " your license is suspended FOREVER " & you start DUI court TONIGHT, it will be one of the hardest things you've ever had to do in your life, for 6 months every single day you will have an appointment, whether it be class, meeting here with me, community service, alcohol test, probation office, you sir. Are booked " not to mention thousands in fines. - hearing that was enough for me lol. I will never get behind the wheel after a drink.
That judge is a good guy he saved my life
Excellent!!!
Wow!! Lesson to be learned!
No consensus’s for four DUI convictions is exactly why he was caught for a fifth time out of thousands of times I’m sure but unreal!
I expected physical book throwing in court.
Highly disappointed.
He should have been ordered or judicially supervised ANTABUSE treatment. While on Antabuse if he drinks he'll get quite sick to the point of incapacitation that he wouldn't be able to drive. A very powerful deterrent indeed!
Thank you judge
