Michael Schaumburg You need to be told/shown not to drive drunk as soon as you get your license...so that you don‘t drive drunk EVER, even as a grown woman.
@Michael Schaumburg Nah man. I tell my friend all the time, don't talk to me if you drink and drive. It's why I rag on people who drink everyday. I want them to not kill people just trying to get home, I know my mom wouldn't want me drinking and driving so I should expect the same from her.
Michael Schaumburg Drinking and driving is gambling with other people‘s lives. It‘s like playing Russian roulette with people that don‘t want to play. Just because nothing happened the first 2 times you did it, doesn‘t make it any less severe of a crime. Here‘s how I would do it: 1. offence: license revoked for 1 year and 1 year probation 2. offence: license permanently revoked and 5 years in prison I can guarantee you that drunk driving accidents will go down drastically!
Man I drove to a bar when I was 22. Got buzzed and thought: "I'm not sure I'm OK to drive." Called a Taxi because Lyft an Uber weren't around at the time. Got home. Woke up the next morning. Walked to the Bar to retrieve my car. (5 blocks away) and went and got pancakes at IHOP. Freedom. It's great. Jaysus. I made this comment a year ago. Why did it blow up?
a lesson for all, makes me realise that people who drink and drive do it for selfish reasons. When I was young we used to take in turns to be the nominated driver so our mates could drink and one would be sober to drive. Not much of a sacrifice.

@@-that_guy-1674 actually it is because when you are drunk your body does not tense up when your hit which makes you a lot less vulnerable to damage rather then when you do tense up when your sober. Thats why in a ton of drunk driving incidents the person survives. In my home town some drunk dude crashed into some trees going 120 and literally walked out of the car after with only some scratches. And recently with the Raiders, Henry Ruggs was going 150 something and I believe hit the person her killed around 127 mph he had non life threatening injuries. One of the most selfish things you can do is drive drunk. There’s no excuse when Uber and Lyft exist. Edit: A lot of you pointed out Uber/Lyft/Taxis aren’t options in small towns, which is true & to those comments, I’d like to just say at the end of the day there’s no excuse. Plan out your night and stay in & drink at a friends or something. Have a plan for a friend/family member pick you up from a bar. If you have no option but to drive then limit yourself in what you drink. That’s all - if you disagree with me then we’ll agree to disagree. I just think it’s messed up how one persons decision to get plastered and drive can take away someone else’s life.

50 years?! That’s cruel and excessive. It’s not justice but revenge. Even 20 years would have been a harsh sentence, especially considering the state of prisons in the US. Prison sentences have just ratcheted up and up, particularly in the US but in other Anglo countries as well; UK, Australia, NZ, Canada… it’s not any safer, and in fact in the US it’s gotten much worse

I think you'd absolutely hate living in Australia, then. If this had happened here, I'm not sure what the sentence would be - but it would definitely be nowhere near 50 years. Perhaps 5 or 10, with a lesser amount as the non-parole period. You see, although the judge would very likely make scathing remarks about how serious the offence was, there would also be recognition that the taking of life was not intended. The driver concerned was criminally negligent, even reckless - granted; but recognition would be made in sentencing that the killings were unintentional, and that places the matter in a different category from any killing that was actually intended - premeditated and committed very deliberately. I get the impression from court videos here that a negligent or reckless killing is sometimes treated more harshly than a deliberate murder. Here, it's exceedingly rare for anyone to be sentenced to 50 years, even for vicious murderers or rapists.

I feel sorry for the families but this woman is no better or worse than the millions of other people who drive drunk every year. She just got unlucky. The fact that the reporter tells us nothing about the accident except where it happened makes me suspect that she wasn’t even at fault, were it not for the fact that in many states the intoxicated party is always considered at fault even if they were stopped at a red light and a sober driver plowed into them. Both the victim’s father and the injured woman look messy enough that it’s not difficult to imagine them driving drunk a few times in their lives. If so, the fact that they didn’t kill anyone was simply good luck, in contrast to the defendant’s bad luck. "50 years, which is pretty much a life sentence." Its actually better. People sentenced to life often get parole at 17 years. For a 50 year sentence she will have to do at least 25.
@@donkeykongisbetterthanmari7495 people sentenced to life are eligible for parole at 15 years. Just get a cab. It aint worth it. Just think....would you rather spend a few bucks on a cab or Uber and leave your car overnight or would you rather end up in prison? I know a lot of people think they are ok to drive.... even if that is true, if there just happens to be an accident you are screwed. Even if it wasn't your impairment that caused the accident.... a judge and/or jury won't care.
I don't drink but I'll probably call a tow truck be able to get a ride and be Able to take my truck with me to. Then the next day you don't even have to worry about getting another ride to go get your vehicle.
When I was younger and would take the car out to go drinking with my friends, my Dad once gave me a straightforward man-to-man talk that I never forgot. He told me, "If you feel that you can't drive, leave the car where it's parked. Take a cab or bus, or call me. I'll pick you and your friends up with the other car." He treated me like a man, so I never betrayed his trust in me.
That’s great, but I choose not to drink at all. I didn’t have a man to man with my father. No words needed to be said, I was not ending up a violent drunk like him.
I am a recovering alcoholic who had 2 dui’s in 2 years a long time ago. Now at 47, I’ll celebrate 13 years sober on December 2nd this year...Thursday. I’ve managed to help several others find sobriety over the years as well.
Similar story. Had one dui and that was the last time I drove drunk. It doesn't seem like a hard change after that first mistake. Even before, but I was stupid back then. I don't understand why people get in cars when they drink. I don't understand why I did it. Starvation probably.

I really wish her, so she get free for good behavior after 15 years. Everyone deserves a second chance, when he is not obviously murderer. We in our country have politican, that killed this way, although not drunk, a old man on crosswalk. He is free to this day. This is just sick. @@randomgamingzzz1917 she didnt killed anybody, car did. She just smashed the car. They are not murderers. You should then jail all persons who drive under alcohol for 50 years. They are same guilty as this woman. Just nothing happened this time. But they are same guilty. Punishement should have some purpouse, this has no purpouse. Eighter jail all drunk drivers, even when they are caught (maybe they would just kill someonebody next minute, if you would not stop them as cop). This is basically execution. What a great judge wish we had more judges like this in Australia 🇦🇺
Facts and In New Zealand
50 years?! That’s cruel and excessive. It’s not justice but revenge. Even 20 years would have been a harsh sentence, especially considering the state of prisons in the US. It’s also incredibly expensive to keep 1 in every 100 adult citizens in prison, and a further life totally wasted. She could have gotten sober and found a cure for cancer. Okay that last part is a bit facetious lol, but it’s true
Also, judges in (civilised) countries must stick to sentencing guidelines, so no judge in Australia would be able to give 50 years for this offence, if they did the person would be resentenced on appeal.

When I was around 22 and drunk-driving early in the morning after a night of heavy drinking, I almost killed a three-year-old toddler who ran out on the street chasing a remote-controlled toy car.

If you can't use this suggestion just throw it out. 🤷 ❤
We all make mistakes i think she deserves 20 years in jail. And after that couple years of community service. But giving people 50 years for an accident is just way too harsh
As long as she actually does 50 years, no good time. Far as I'm concerned, if you drive drunk you should get 50 actual years every time even 1st offense. Because you willfully became a weapon as soon as you got behind the wheel.
I'm glad this is showcased publicly. They should show this in schools at least once a month to impress people. Consequences people, Consequences!
these kids will laugh in your face when you try to show them, but be crying when having to deal with consequences. Why can't they think ahead, or think at all
@@PipMane It's just typical. & Darwin will have his revenge.
@@PipMane Thor knows everything huh?
Nah, they'll think they drive perfectly when drunk, it's others that fail. The ones that don't think that, didn't need this video in the first place.
@@PipMane You can’t.
She is clearly the kind of person who feels like this happened to her instead of knowing that she was the cause of it.
You don't know that.
@@theincompleteskeptic8079 well I mean she did cause it lmao.
Its both
@@Relytxz Agreed as a real possibility. I just can't imagine someone not caring about others. Peace...
Yes, it's fairly clear that she couldn't take responsibility for her action. Her reaction to her sentence is very telling. I hope her victims are at peace.
"50 years, which is pretty much a life sentence."
Its actually better. People sentenced to life often get parole at 17 years.
For a 50 year sentence she will have to do at least 25.
what?
@@donkeykongisbetterthanmari7495 people sentenced to life are eligible for parole at 15 years. However if you get an actual timed sentence, you typically have to serve half of it before you are eligible for parole.
As a result people sentenced to life often get out sooner than people sentenced to 35+ years.
@@RinnzuRosendale The absolute mess that is the prison system 🤦♀️
That’s if she’ll actually making something of herself behind those walls. She’s doing at least 80% of that time if she just eats and sleeps that time away.
@@RinnzuRosendale In some states differ when it comes to parole. Anywhere from 15-50 years to be eligible. Or life without parole.
A creepy reminder of that no matter how good driver you are, the other drivers need to be good too.
If you can’t afford a ride service, then you can’t afford to drink when you’re out.
This should be placed on PSAs.
💯
Always told my kids to call me anytime of day or night if they were too impaired to drive (before Uber or Lyft). No questions asked, even took their friends home. Only happened twice. Would drive back the next day to pick up any cars that were left parked.
Had to fight a friend of mine and forcefully take his keys one day. Thanks me every time I see him for preventing him from getting in his car.
You are an amazing friend!!
Yes that makes you a good friend but careful some won’t hesitate to pull out something
Amazing how fast a few drinks can change someone from "friend" to "raving lunatic trying to injure himself or others"
@@zoeyb8361 i drink but sometimes i thought "why am i drinking? what did i get from this?"

"Just her not being happy everyday brings joy to me"
thats the most honest thing i've heard anyone say in this situation.
Holding grudges and thinking that way though is no way to live. I had a cousin that was killed by his friend last year because his friend was under the influence, and although I believe his friend should be be punished, I don't spend my days hoping he's living in misery. Forgiveness allows you to truly move on.
The crucifix around her neck... hypocrisy, thy name is Christian!
@@RandyMarshMurica Haha, nope. Knowing that shitheads and murderers can spend their days being miserable and sad puts my mind at ease. What goes around comes around, and if these people made the decision to make innocent people miserable for the rest of their lives, then their guilty asses can feel the same damn way.
@@IzzyRoseDoesArt Sucks to be you, but its your life.
@@RandyMarshMurica yeah, that flake is toxic and just ugly to the core. Bet she is seeking a huge payday too from insurance.
There's no such thing as a drunk driving "accident".
Alcohol ruins a lot of people’s lives. Look at most stories and alcohol or drugs were involved
chris redfield mainly Alcohol because it waivers your senses completely and overall reasoning. NOT saying drugs dont, yet Alcohol makes you more vulnerable to crash and pretty much die in a car whilst not as much as other substances.
I like alcohol but I rarely drink it. I have a normal healthy life with alcohol in my life. It's all about maturity
It's crazy how alcohol is legal, that stuff ruins so many lives
And they’re bashing marijuana
Why ‘or’ alcohol is a drug and also one of the worst
Just get a cab. It aint worth it. Just think....would you rather spend a few bucks on a cab or Uber and leave your car overnight or would you rather end up in prison? I know a lot of people think they are ok to drive.... even if that is true, if there just happens to be an accident you are screwed. Even if it wasn't your impairment that caused the accident.... a judge and/or jury won't care.
Naw get an uber
Like a drunk person would second guess. Theyre drunk. They just want to go zoom zoom and listen to all girls wanna have fun
50 years???? For manslaughter??? But if you're Rich get 2 or 3 years... Or better yet a Cop that Kills a unarmed person gets 2 weeks vacation...
Or just sleep in your car until morning
@@roycastanon5754 I'm sorry about your father but congratulations on being a bigger man than him. Way to go, bro.
love it
I don't drink at all. Drinking ruins the mind. Sure, it might be fun to get drunk with your friends but one bad night at the bar can ruin you.
Wow, that’s the same talk my dad gave me and I’ll also never betray him either, need more dads like ours !
This is very sad I can't imagine how horrible it is for the family I hope there life gets better 💕
I am a recovering alcoholic who had 2 dui’s in 2 years a long time ago. Now at 47, I’ll celebrate 13 years sober on December 2nd this year...Thursday. I thank God all the time, to this day that I never killed or hurt someone on the road, including myself. Things like this remind me all the more. I’ve managed to help several others find sobriety over the years as well.
Sure nice for God to extend you the courtesy. It would have been nice for him to do the same for the family in this video.
Congrats on the sobriety that’s an incredibly hard thing to do
Similar story. Had one dui and that was the last time I drove drunk. It doesn't seem like a hard change after that first mistake. Even before, but I was stupid back then. I don't understand why people get in cars when they drink. I don't understand why I did it. Starvation probably.
What do u do on new year's eve? Drink apple cider?
congratz
A woman that murders her child gets ten years, never understood the penalties of some crimes.
That's one murder, this bitch murdered 3 people and injured 1
@@lucasdagreat7620 she didnt murdered anyone, the car killed them. Murder is when you intent to kill someone. This woman doesn't deserved to be bashed for life, for one mistake. That is ill, like whole that country. The one, that plan to murder someone, and try it, but he fails, is 100x more guilty, than this woman. I really wish her, so she get free for good behavior after 15 years. Everyone deserves a second chance, when he is not obviously murderer. We in our country have politican, that killed this way, although not drunk, a old man on crosswalk. He is free to this day. This is just sick. According this video, he would deserve at least 10-15 years too. This is totally ill-minded. Like whole "good" America. Hope that judge will drink once per his life, get drunk, and kill someone accidently, for one mistake. And will get judged at least for 30 years. Maybe then, he will wake up. I was drunk like 20 times in my whole life, and all that during 5 years period on high school and university in student times. Every that evening could end up by some mistake. This is totally hunting, by on whom from us falls some accident. Maybe we could just directly execute ourselfs, for every mistake. It's same, as to give someone 50 years. I saw so many people drinking every week in friday... all of them are not less guilty than this woman, they are basically same innocent, or guilty, while they will be all the time on freedom, just this woman needs to be hunted and destroyed. Silly system.
warrax111 hey man, I would hope you’re not being serious, there’s no need to be angry in this conversation but I’d like to argue that she does deserve life, she got drunk and got in a car under the influence, judging from your comment I don’t think English is your first language, nor are you from America, but I think the punishment given her age is pretty acceptable, killing three innocent people while drunk driving is pretty bad, (she’s pretty old already, if she hasn’t had enough second chances by then I don’t think putting her back out into the world is a good idea), idk man if you’re not being serious just think about what I said, also last note, people kill people, if you ask a car to kill somebody, what’s it gonna do?
@@randomgamingzzz1917 she didnt killed anybody, car did. She just smashed the car. You cannot judge one person for smashing the car for 1 year, because noone dies, and another man, for 150 years, because there were 5 or 6 people inside other car. These persons are same "guilty". So execute all other drunk drivers... even better, catch them before they kill someone. And execute them. They are same guilty as this woman.
My english got worse, sorry for that. Used to be better.
(Edit: I would gave her 10 years. And rather took out they driver license for 50 years. Even 10 years is life-ruining basically, but it has purpouse, she has a chance for living .I would take life even without ability to drive a car for rest of the life, rather than to be bashed for life-time) Only murderers deserve to be judged for such long, not accidental killers, that cause someone to die, but didint intended to)
@@randomgamingzzz1917 I am deadly serious. Would never give such person 50 years. That is pure evil. She is not murderer, she is not definetly thrustworthy person, and reliable. But 50 years deserves only murderers that plan to kill. This is not that kind of person.
I really can’t feel bad for drunk drivers. It’s one of the most irresponsible decisions a person can make.
yeah, well there are alot more never caught. Does NOT mean we need even HARDER sentences. It is not going to change a damn thing.
@@MrMaddox57 I think it just needs to be zero tolerance. The limit needs to be 0% alcohol in your blood stream. Change some of the culture surrounding 1-2 drinks. Also, need to hold anyone else in the vehicle equally accountable if the driver is drunk. Other countries do it and it works.
@@domwings4329 Not going to happen. Alcohol is big business!
dont agree if they get drunk asf they dont think about the consequences of driving whilst a murder damn knows what hes doing
Drunk drivers should never be tolerated. (At least not until after they've paid their debt to society *AND* have truly felt remorse for their actions.)
I mean, she got 16 year per each murder. Imagine if a judge said your entire life is only worth 16 years. Im sure those people had longer life expectancies. If you kill 3, you should get a longer lasting sentence. We go easy on killers in this country for some reason.
