    Hi, Kristy. I accidentally came across your videos and found them very interesting and informative. Thank you very much for taking time to create those videos and answer questions with your busy schedule. I thought that it was interesting that your program is only 2 years. I want to become a sonographer. This is my ultimate goal, but it is very competitive here in San Diego to get into this program. We only have one University that has this program and its 12 months. But in order to get into this program I need to finish Radiologic Technology program (which is 2 year program on its own) and General Pathology class. Well I just finished my prerequisites for the Rad. Tech which took me 1.5 years. So after everything is set and done it will take me almost 5 years to get my Sonography Certificate. SO lucky you! Thank you very much again for everything you've done for all of us students that are on the same path as you :)

    • @KristyDMS
      @KristyDMS  5 лет назад +8

      Itzzy Taehyung going into this program I had to practice a lot of self care and learn to manage my mental health bc if I tried to juggle too many things like studying and working and social life I’d go crazy. If you can give yourself some self discipline and keep up with a strict schedule you can definitely find time to have a social life. I def still went out if I needed to. Your mental health is important or you wouldn’t be able to get your education thoroughly

Currently I’m retaking Intermediate Algebra so if you love it you’ll keep trying. I wouldn’t worry about the physics I’m taking it now and it’s pretty easy. You just have to remember the equations. Trinity G. No, prerequisites are a set of classes you have to take in college before jumping into the program. If you look up any degree program in a college of your choice, you can find a layout of the program, including the classes that need to be taken beforehand, aka prerequisites. Most of the time it’s English, Math, Biology, a Humanities class, Communication class, Political Science, courses like that

    I am currently a senior in high school and I am also a Registered dental assistant, I will soon be graduating May 12th! Come faster?! Lol. I truly thought I would continue my education in dentistry to become a Dental Hygienist but I came to the conclusion that if I do that, I will not be following my dreams! I've been fascinated with the idea of Sonography. I'm specifically looking into echocardiography! I took A&P when I took classes to become a registered dental assistant and that was honestly the most interesting part of the whole course. The heart is what I loved learning about the most 🫀🥺 Anyways, long story short, I tossed my Dental Hygiene application and applied for the DMS program at my local community college! • @a.d.w8385
    @a.d.w8385 3 года назад

    I recently moved to an area and the only place that offers DMS schooling is a 27 month accelerated Bachloers degree program. So, the program is 27 months, 2+ years, but you get a bachelor's. I wanted to just get an Associates but this is the only route they offer in my area. And many people will face these challenges. Many of these degrees aren't available to everyone in every state. Some states don't even have it.

      Mary Muniz I still have a couple months left before I have to apply. I’m going into my senior year but honestly I am still stuck!! It sucks because they both have good and bad. @lesleymeraz002 5 лет назад +1

      Anita Shubert I haven’t decided 😬😩 But idk they both have good and bad. I’m also interested in respiratory therapy. The only main thing that really draws me away from nursing is the fact that all the 4 year programs in my state are overfilled and have no more room. So that means a waiting list of a couple of years and I don’t have time to wait. I wanna jump in and make money. I grew up with my parents always struggling with money I personally don’t want that and the sooner I get into the field I feel like more money I can make. This was such a helpful video thanks for answering all questions I had. I'm a year away from DMS clinicals! I will be turning 34 and I just want to say if you are ever questioning whether age is holding you back from starting over then this program is attainable for the right individual! 2 year degree rather than 4 for nursing(and some!) If you really have a passion for patient care then this is a great compromise.
    I feel so blessed on this journey and cannot wait to start clinicals and find my niche! Thanks for sharing! Good luck!

    Young people these days are soo lucky. Back then I didn't have anybody hold my hand in college (not my parents, no one!) that's why it took me five years to get a 2 year degree back in 2008! And then after that, I was STILL lost because my two year degree was in something VERY general like communications (because I wanted something easy and fast!) and so then I ended up working in minimum wage job and I am STILL there and I am 36! ... I like my job though because it's easy but the pay does suck... man... I think if I only knew I would end up with a minimum wage job in my 30s, I'd have skipped college all together! Signed ,someone with TWO associates degrees (I qualified for a Social and Behavioral Science AA in 2017), a certificate in RE, AND a life Insurance license that for some reason, I haven't been able to get a job in ANY of those fields!!

      Denise Vazquez glad you love the videos! I’m here to help. First congrats on getting in girl! Definitely mentally prepare yourself to get back into school study mode. You will need it. Be sure to keep a strict mental schedule with handling studying clinicals and working if you decide to continue to work. I personally utilized my weekend to study or have a normal social life. What is the difference between applying to a DMS program and adding on echocardiography as a specialty vs applying to the echocardiography program itself? Its the same things, right? Depends on what the charge is for. If it involved harming someone or dishonesty you won't get in. If it was for something like trespassing or public intoxication and you're open and honest about the situation you'll likely be fine. Definitely don't try to lie about it or down play it. Just say you can see now the decisions you made were dumb, regrettable, etc. and you've learned and grown/matured from the experience.

    I think the reason why people ask if you get paid to do clinicals is because in Australia and the UK, clinical placements are paid ahaha. And for us we're required 2200 training hours before graduating so it's a pretty good amount hehe.

    Q1. Explain why a full bladder is required when performing a TA ultrasound examination of a female patient?
    Q2. Explain the difficulties when performing a TA Ultrasound examination of the female pelvis when the bladder is full.
    Q3. Detail the information that should be provided to the patient regarding filling their bladder.

    • @chelsearobb7443
      @chelsearobb7443 5 лет назад

      Pradip Neupane 1. When the bladder is full if creates a window to better visualize the uterus and ovaries for a pelvic exam. The bladder needs to be full if you’re evaluating the bladder for masses/cystitis/ obstructions and the ability to tell how much the patient is able to void.
      2. The only difficult thing is dealing with the patient if they can not hold their urine. A full bladder is always preferred for adequate images.
      3. Tell the patient to drink 32 oz of water 1 hour before the exam and do not void until after the exam.

    The program my school offers sounds very identical to yours, do you think someone who just took mainly honors and some AP courses in high school could do this? Sonography was something i was looking into but would you says its mostly skill or memorization based?

    • @KristyDMS
      @KristyDMS  5 лет назад +5

      mmmm i would say the book part is probably mostly memorization. the scanning itself is all skills. you will need to actually scan with your hands, you cant learn that by memorizing. every patient you get has a different body habitus. so when you learn that hand eye coordination and get use to what you know anatomy wise in your head, your hand skills will automatically maneuver to what you want to scan.
      i alwasy say like you can be the smarted person in ultrasound but it doesnt mean youre a good scanner

I currently work overnights from 11pm-7am and am trying to keep my job to be able to get through school and pay rent and stuff, I could get to school probably earliest 8am and can do school work and stuff all night during my shift, I have a lot of free time.
