Currently studying for the TEAS and I’m stressing. Now I’m questioning myself if this is the career I want. I was so close to graduations with a business associates then I changed to DMS, now I’m just having a breakdown. I don’t have a passion for anything. Everything is just spinning in my head. don't stress! college and figure out what you like in life is such a big challenge for everyone! take your time. there is no rush to know what you want to do right now this second!
Everything is going to be a challenge! This is how I was. Pushing past the challenges no matter what field you study will help you in the long run. It’s okay to second guess because it’s hard but DO NOT give up, you won’t know if it was for you or not in the end. Keep trying, get tutors, put your best foot forward (in all aspects even studying and talking with your professor) and it will be okay. 🫶🏾 Good luck wish you the best.
Girl, your timing couldn’t be more perfect! I’m currently registering to take A&P 1 & 2 this summer. After those classes, I’ll need to take Physics. I definitely saved the hardest courses for last. I’m active duty military, so I’m completing my prerequisite courses while I serve. I hope to be accepted into a DMS program before I separate to allow a smooth transition into the program as a civilian!
Thank you for making this video I am a senior in high school and I am looking at job options and no one is being very helpful and this video is very helpful !
You just gave me so much hope. I stressed out so much because I got a C in A&P 1 and hated the fact that I was never prepared for it in highschool. I truly hope that C doesn't impact my acceptance.
It absolutely can. I have a C in my first BIO because I returned to college after not being in school for 15 years and had a tough time. I have gotten straight A's since then, 3.64 GPA, all prereqs done, huge amount of points.... I was still denied for rad`tech program. If that one C were an A, I probably would have gotten in

I'm signed up for Medical Terminology this summer.. and college algebra. I'm very pumped up for this career. thanks for your video's
I am so sad. I have a B.A. in English & after years of having unrelated jobs & working as a Receptionist in doctor offices I grew interested in Sonography. I went to Montgomery College and had to take Medical Terminology I & II and Biology. I made A’s in the Medical Terminology but couldn’t seem to pass the Biology and then Coronavirus hit in 2020 and I had to drop out. I wanted this so bad for me. I’m happy for you, it seems like we were there at the same time. The funny thing is I get job offers all the time for Sonography but I never completed the program; actually it’s kind of sad but Congratulations!

Love that I found you a few weeks ago! I'm currently putting my application packet together to submit to my DUTEC Department Chair to see if I'll be accepted into the program at a local community college. Regardless of pathway, my DUTEC program only accepts 30 students a year maybe 35 if they feel they have deserving candidates and other CC's only accept 15 students so be aware that it is a competitive program. It never hurts anyone to be proactive and do your research on the specialty fields and the school you're looking to attend. Usually the manual and and other helpful links to info sessions, email to the department, FAQs, etc to help you know what to expect. I love your videos! They have helped me so much in a very short time. Every time I listen to one, my anxiety goes down (yay) or inspires me to to go look into at another specialty I could use sonography. After you took your general education classes at your local community college, did you take the program prerequisites at that same community college or did you take those at Montgomery college?
I find it interesting that there were so many pre-reqs to get into the DMS programs in Maryland but maybe entry isn't as competitive because of that, or at least there's fewer applicants. Where I'm from (BC) there's only 4 high school level minimum pre-req courses but this in part makes my closest DMS program very competitive. At least for DMS entry at this school, 90%+ is expected to get in but, in comparison, the 1st year college courses you described may be more challenging. Sadly, idk if I can get into my nearby DMS program because of how competitive it is to get in but I'll have to try and find out. All the other ones in my province are fairly far away from me :/.
Thank you for sharing Le. I almost finish my general education classes at college. I made a mistake and left 3 rough classes together. So do you have any advice if I take 15 credits in a same semester which include BIOL 101, Anatomy & Physiology (BIOL 110) and General Physics? Im so scared right now. 😭
Hi, thanks for being so blunt about your journey to DMS. I want to take the certification that is accredited is nearby where I live. I work I have to make a living. I wanted to join the associates program for DMS but school is 1hr and 30 min away. I was looking into online courses. I only found like 2 that are accredited. What can you recommend?
Kristy your videos are helping so much...I want to switch careers cuz i already have Bachelors and sonography is something I discovered to be interesting for me. Maybe all I need is a certificate from JH? I also went to MC after I graduated from HS. Anyways, that was too long ago. Congratulations you are so young. I wish we could talk. I would love to volunteer to be scanned and be able to see what is like to use that machine. I think is so cool that you go to the Holy Cross hospitals and I am not sure if Shady Grove as well???
Yay! Thank you for another video! You’re so helpful for us Pre-Sonography students. I live in Rhode Island, but my college doesn’t find our clinical sites for us. I have to find my own. I was going to take this summer break to find a hospital or clinic since I have two prerequisites left for Fall semester. Any tips on picking a good clinical site? I failed biology, I got a C in the class and my school requires a B minimum for biology. I also failed intermediate algebra which I’m retaking right now. Just keep swimming lol I didn’t know that about the number of credits, I better check on that. My college only requires having a 2.0 or above to get into the program, but it is an accredited program. That’s so important.
Hi Kristy! I’m an international student and I have to pay a lot of tuition fee as compared to American Students. I have already lost few years, money and energy of my life by getting into wrong program. Now I’m trying my luck one more time in Sonography program. I just have one question. Is it easy to get job in sonography field after doing just the associates degree but not Bachelor ?
Where you from? I'm moving there next year from Spain and thinking about doing this but I'm so worried about the prerequisites and all that. Could you add me to IG? sandrasanchezzzzzz
So I’m confused. The pre reqs aren’t included in the associates program ? You have to basically do 4 years to only be awarded with just an associates ?
yeah, but it depends on your specific program. it's honestly crazy because i've spent 2 years on my prereqs, and am applying to a program. it feels like we honestly deserve a bachelor's in the end lol...
@Veanne 2 years of prereqs and now 2 more years for DMS ??? In total 4 years..now I feel like changing from DMS to Registered Nurse 😢😢 coz I thoughts DMS is altogether 2 years including prereqs……please answer me ..
I already have a degree in animal and veterinary sciences, but it's not where my passion is. I want to be a sonograph technician and only had to take 4 classes before applying to a program (anatomy 1 & 2, computer class, and med term) Lol so agree, adjusting to anatomy and physiology 1 is probably the hardest part, but the second semester is a lot better. Hoping to make an A this semester and show the board I can do it. Your videos are so helpful and inspiring :)
Let’s say you take a program that asks for these pre-requisites and you already took them in a previous college and can get those transcripts. Can you transfer those requisites for the program your enrolling or would you still need to take those classes for the program?
I am a Registered MA who would LOVE to become a Sonographer but I cannot find any evening classes in the Philadelphia area! I think it's impossible for a working adult to become a Sonographer. There's 3 Sonography schools ONLINE but I still have to do clinicals and there's NO evening clinicals! So upset I can't follow my dream :(
hey Kristy..how do u knw which pre requisite class to take first...and where do u take them from ? Can u also share your program cost ? and the pre req classes cost..pls ? Thanks fr the video.
I'm trying to find what I would like to do with my life/career. I am a male very interested in sonography, especially in OB sonography. It's certainly a female dominant career, can anyone working in ultrasound give me some insight of what I should do? Are mothers comfortable with male sonographers?
Males definitely could be ob-gyn sonographers, if that’s what you want that’s great, however it’s not all babies and mothers when you specialize in ob-gyn you aswell do pelvic Sonos and check for cyst etc it as well works in the vaginal area, If that makes you uncomfortable you can still be an rdms but you could specialize in abdomen and if you work in an ER you can aswell work with a little bit of everything!
Do your high school classes affect your entry into a sonography program? Like is there a specific class needed ? Or everything that is actually counted/accredited is only in college ?
i do not have much knowledge on specific programs from different states . best advice i can give you is go on CAAHEP to find an accredited program in your area and try to find others whp went there
Hey, i know you’re busy but I’ve been watching your videos because I’m planning to get a career in sonography! I’m 17 and this year I’m going to a community college. My sonography program requires prerequisites and I was wondering where you took yours & how long it took :) i’m honestly so confused and idk if i can take prerequisites at a community college 😭
hehe i'm back here 2 years later because i finally applied to 2 programs in my state. it's crazy how back then i was so eager to start learning. now i'm kind of down because i didn't get accepted for one program despite having all A's and an 86 on the TEAS :( i have one chance left but they require an interview + on the spot essay. i'm terrible at interviews. i'm not expected to get in, but if i don't get in, i honestly have no idea where to go from here! i feel like i've done my best, so idk where i'm at right now!
what do you mean having a program that is accredited what happens if you don't go to a program that is accredited I have one school that is and another that isn't but I have to wait all the way till September for the one accredited in NJ.
if you do not go to a school that is no accredited, you will not be allowed to sit for your board exam (RDMS) bc it was not an " approved" programm for ARDMS. so you'd be wasting your time. it always always always needs to be accredited
Hi Kristy, I just wanted to clarify something real quick in regards to the schooling. If I attend an Associates Degree program that is accredited, is that enough for me to sit for my boards or do I need to take a certificate program as well when I finish with the AS. Thank you in advance! 🙏
I've been trying to decide between radiologic technologist and ultrasound technician. One girl explained all her classes for RT and what she had to do in her classes and I thought oh I can do this! But in ultrasound it seems they make more and have more job openings The girl who did RT went back to school to for ultrasound! She wanted a more challenging career. Maybe I'll do both like her 🤷 she got accepted right away into the ultrasound program because she had already went through RT school
Those classes do help a lot especially anatomy and in my opinion AP classes don’t help you in college at all, they just stress you out. If you take AP you’ll still have to take that class in college, like AP English for example. Hope that makes sense
If my city doesn't offer any accredited programs with both an associates, and certification. which program should I choose? The one that offers just a certification, or the one that offers just an associates?
Can you help me as how to proceed to enter into diagnostic medical sonography field.iam a non medical student but very much interested to enter into it.
Is A and P in Latin is that what you mean by a different language? Because in highschool we take Principles of health and we learn a lot of Latin suffixes and prefixes and learn how to read the Latin medical terms
I m currently on the road, thank u for your advice, I am taking intro physics but I find it so difficult to understand so I'm not sure if this the major for me .. I love bio lol I passed it with a good grade jejejeje
I have a question I really want to get into the sonagraphy program but I have to do a interview can u give me a couple of tips on what to say to get into the program plz and thank you!!!!♥️♥️♥️
hi! im sorry im so late. i didnt have to go through interviews for mine. i dont have too much guidance on this one! i guess itd be like any interview, show them why you want the spot and what makes you stand out from the rest
Was sonography the only program you applied to? I'm starting to worry that even my 3.8 won't be competitive enough and wondering if I should also apply to other programs
my college actually allowed me to pick 3 tiers of health science to go into. sonography was 1, the radiology2, then nursing3. but i never wanted to do the others. always sonography was the goal!
I’m going to Howard County Community College this fall! My major is Diagnostic Medical Sonography and I’m very excited.

How did it go?
.
I am in Maryland too! Looking at Howard and John Hopkins 🤞🏾
Sameee!!
Dra. Alana Santana hopefully we both get in’
Good luck!
This video was super helpful!
Thank you so much!
This video is incredibly helpful! Thank you!
How old are you? I'm 30 and thinking about this but I don't remember much from high school... It's just that my business degree doesn't fulfill me
Just keep swimming lol
I didn’t know that about the number of credits, I better check on that. My college only requires having a 2.0 or above to get into the program, but it is an accredited program. That’s so important.
What college is this? I am international student and would like to know where best to study abroad.
Thank you for this video. I am definitely taking a summer class and going to strive super hard to get in soon at me too.
@@tashidoma1052 if 2 years prereqs plus the dms program makes it 4 years in total, i guess you can count the nursing route as 6 years
when did you take the teas test? after or after taking the prerequisites?
watching this in 2024 and giving me hope that i can so it thank you ❤
I already have a degree in animal and veterinary sciences, but it's not where my passion is.
Your videos are so helpful and inspiring :)
were you able to work during studying and how much time do you spent gor your prereqs?
I probably could’ve passed A&P 1 if I didn’t have to do it online... That was terrible for me
GIRL SAME
how long were the pre requstion?
hargun09 normally it takes a year
@@nurse.jennyythen when do you start the DMS program. It says it takes 2 years to complete the DMS program
Males definitely could be ob-gyn sonographers, if that’s what you want that’s great, however it’s not all babies and mothers when you specialize in ob-gyn you aswell do pelvic Sonos and check for cyst etc it as well works in the vaginal area, If that makes you uncomfortable you can still be an rdms but you could specialize in abdomen and if you work in an ER you can aswell work with a little bit of everything!
before you got into the program did you have any work experience working at a hospital?
What about ABHES accredited dms program?
You are from which community college?
What did you do to study for the teas test. What book did you study for it?!
Which Math class did you take? Was it hard?
Do your high school classes affect your entry into a sonography program? Like is there a specific class needed ? Or everything that is actually counted/accredited is only in college ?
i dont believe high school affects it. just college
During this time, did you dissect any cadavers?
I’m taking A&P right now & we will soon have to work with cadavers in lab
Hey krist, your video is very helpful, do you any college in Dallas Tx.or any link. Thanks
i do not have much knowledge on specific programs from different states . best advice i can give you is go on CAAHEP to find an accredited program in your area and try to find others whp went there
Thank you for these videos!!! My state doesn’t have any accredited programs.. I do have my associates though. What should I do next?
I applied for a program in a different state and I commute. It’s about an hour and 15 minutes away.
Lol Wow you went to the same Community College as me. MCC was great! 😊
The classes you said you took, you took them at your local college? Like with your general?
yes! i took it at a community college for my general education classes so i can transfer it!
I’m not very good at math and I’m generally fine at science.
what were your grades like?any c's?
did u take anatomy and physiology in high school too or just college ?
Hey, i know you’re busy but I’ve been watching your videos because I’m planning to get a career in sonography! I’m 17 and this year I’m going to a community college. My sonography program requires prerequisites and I was wondering where you took yours & how long it took :) i’m honestly so confused and idk if i can take prerequisites at a community college 😭
Tiasha Capers thank you!! im starting my prereqs on may 18!! :)
hehe i'm back here 2 years later because i finally applied to 2 programs in my state. it's crazy how back then i was so eager to start learning. now i'm kind of down because i didn't get accepted for one program despite having all A's and an 86 on the TEAS :( i have one chance left but they require an interview + on the spot essay. i'm terrible at interviews. i'm not expected to get in, but if i don't get in, i honestly have no idea where to go from here! i feel like i've done my best, so idk where i'm at right now!
@@veanne did you get in?
@@danielauribe2519 yes I did!! i honestly did not expect it at all… and now i’m finishing up my first semester in 2 more weeks 🥹 time fliesss
@@veanne congrats !!♥️ :) you deserve it wish you the best xoxo
What is your program?
what do you mean having a program that is accredited what happens if you don't go to a program that is accredited I have one school that is and another that isn't but I have to wait all the way till September for the one accredited in NJ.
if you do not go to a school that is no accredited, you will not be allowed to sit for your board exam (RDMS) bc it was not an " approved" programm for ARDMS. so you'd be wasting your time. it always always always needs to be accredited
Hi Kristy, I just wanted to clarify something real quick in regards to the schooling. If I attend an Associates Degree program that is accredited, is that enough for me to sit for my boards or do I need to take a certificate program as well when I finish with the AS. Thank you in advance! 🙏
as long as your ultrasound program is accredited then you can sit for your board exam!! the associate degree should be fine!
@@KristyDMS thank you so much!
did you need a 70% gpa average ?
take my entrance exam on tuesday... so scared. love your videos💛
update: GOT ACCEPTED!! I START MY DMS JOURNEY FALL 2019!!
@@ligiasaravia9990 Yay! congrats!!
YESSSS!!! CONGRATS
Ligia Saravia did you took the TEAS?
Song Zhang hi! no, we had to take the HESI A2
Thank you so much 🙏
how many years did this process take?
If I withdraw from physics rn will I hurt my chances of getting into a program with a W ON MY TRANSCRIPT
question does the amount of school (certificate, associates,Bachelors) effect how you get paid?
I've been trying to decide between radiologic technologist and ultrasound technician. One girl explained all her classes for RT and what she had to do in her classes and I thought oh I can do this!
But in ultrasound it seems they make more and have more job openings
The girl who did RT went back to school to for ultrasound! She wanted a more challenging career. Maybe I'll do both like her 🤷 she got accepted right away into the ultrasound program because she had already went through RT school
If I’m taking anatomy next school year would that help at all? And if I take physics too? Also do AP classes help at all?
Those classes do help a lot especially anatomy and in my opinion AP classes don’t help you in college at all, they just stress you out. If you take AP you’ll still have to take that class in college, like AP English for example. Hope that makes sense
Ap classes are useless tbh they're harder than the college course itself
Where are you now? How’d everything go in your career?
Did you take your pre recs at mont college too???
i took most of them at a different community college. and finished up some at MC
If my city doesn't offer any accredited programs with both an associates, and certification. which program should I choose? The one that offers just a certification, or the one that offers just an associates?
very helpful..thank you so much
Can you help me as how to proceed to enter into diagnostic medical sonography field.iam a non medical student but very much interested to enter into it.
I haven’t been in school in 5 yrs but just got accepted back into college. How long do you think it would take to finish my prerequisites??
I’d like to know this too
How long you take to do all the prerequisites?
1-2 years for most people
Thanks dear 🙏
Hey love what video editing software are you using?
just imovie
Hi, I love your videos very informative and amazing. Do radiology and sonography have similar prerequisite?.
Is A and P in Latin is that what you mean by a different language? Because in highschool we take Principles of health and we learn a lot of Latin suffixes and prefixes and learn how to read the Latin medical terms
i have no idea.a&p in just simple anatomy and physiology. the latin thing you are talking about might be medical terminology? idk
Love this
Can you take online class
my program was online. but you still need to come in person for some lectures and hands on learning
I m currently on the road, thank u for your advice, I am taking intro physics but I find it so difficult to understand so I'm not sure if this the major for me .. I love bio lol I passed it with a good grade jejejeje
You can do it! best of luck!
Can prerequisites be done all online?
sometimes it can be. you just need to take your courses with the same credits and etc
Okay, all good, great video, but how do I get in YOUR DM's?
Do you still have a chance of getting into college while only having a GED? 😬
Yes you can! Check with your local community colleges
Anna Burciaga ty! Hope all is well.
I graduated from GED and I’m in college now finishing my prerequisites. 😊
Absolutely!!
I have a question I really want to get into the sonagraphy program but I have to do a interview can u give me a couple of tips on what to say to get into the program plz and thank you!!!!♥️♥️♥️
Y __ don’t just say you want to scan babies!
I have the same worry. I wish she would respond
hi! im sorry im so late. i didnt have to go through interviews for mine. i dont have too much guidance on this one! i guess itd be like any interview, show them why you want the spot and what makes you stand out from the rest
Kristy, are u Vietnamese?
yes!
Dont you need another year of experience after you graduate to take the ARDMS or ARRT registry?
ive been going through clinical rotations my whole program. i have enough expereince to take my boards
That's great! I'm so glad they they updated their site and requirements!
