Great job young lady! You express yourself positively and honestly. You sound as if you have more time in than you say. I've scanned for 20years, and I know you'll do well at whatever you choose to do in the long run. I would say to you, get all the registries you can as soon as possible. Abdomen, Vascular, and then maybe Peds or MSK especially if you're looking to start your own buisness. Good Luck!

Hi. Do you think a 50 yr old should take a sonography class?

@@Dothework4uhey I’m 45 and I’m trying to get in the program! I was a medical assistant for over 20 years! My daughter said in her nursing program there was a 60 year old woman! As long as you have the drive and motivation you should never worry about age! I thought the same at one point!

Hi! I'm moving to NY and planning to take sonography program. By the way, I'm from the Philippines and I finished an associate degree that is computer related program. I don't have any idea if I need this prerequisites or a placement test or an interview for me to be able to attend the school iwant in NY. Hope somebody in here can give me any idea what should I do and I would really appreciate it.

I believe you can transfer the classes that are required that you have already taken, but there probably will be prereqs that you need to take before applying to the sonography program. I’m in the same boat but i graduated with a social sciences degree, so i need to take physics and i believe some other classes

I work as an athletic therapist, and rn I struggle with it being too client facing, always talking with the clients and educating them through their condition, exercises, etc. I’m socially exhausted by the end of the day. Would you recommend this job for more introverted people? Do you do a lot of talking with the patients, or do you focus on just explaining what to expect, and then doing your exam on them?
I’m definitely okay with talking with clients, but it can get very exhausting when they expect you to fix their every problem, or having to listen to complaint after complaint (sometimes not even related to pain, personal lives too like you’re a psychological therapist). Is that something you deal with in your day to day?

@simplyem. Hey! Although I haven’t graduated yet, I’m about to start my second year of ultrasound school in the fall, so I can definitely say that sonography deals with a lot of patient interaction. This is one of the imaging modalities that has the most patient interaction, just because ultrasound is more hands-on than CT, MRI, etc. From the experience that I have gained at multiple clinical sites so far, patients will talk to you about anything. However, there are some patients who will stay quiet during the exam. So technically, you can just explain the exam to the patient and then complete it with minimal talking. It really just depends on the patient's mood and whether they see if the sonographer wants to keep the conversation going. Also, there are some exams where the patient shouldn’t really be talking, or they need to hold their breath in, etc. But I’m yet to be a professional, so I hope a Sonographer is able to answer your question better!
