my rough interpretation of the lyrics to duality. the duality of not wanting to be blind to the truth of reality and its corruption. the truth hurts so bad you try to look away, to close your eyes, it helps ease the pain, but it always works its way inside, once your eyes are opened to the truth looking away is impossible. your stuck in duality wanting to know the truth but also wanting to escape from the pain it causes. the pain is maddening sometimes you just wanna give up, you feel powerless, you wish things were different, you wish you could change things, but you cannot kill what you did not create. all you have is your voice and all you can do is say what you see even though you know people wont like it. you don't know if you can take it anymore so you push your fingers into your eyes again to stop the ache, but it never ends, it works its way back inside. i love that song, i feel i can really relate to it more and more the older and wiser i get.

Alex. 3 years ago or so, you didn't even know there was a band called Slipknot, or Linkin Park, Evanescence, and others. You discover this culture around 2018! That doesn't even give you the right to be an amateur. You're an upstart. You were absent, lost in a space-time hole...You have just been parachuted, you have just woken up or come out of a long coma..., you don't "know" Chester for example come on man...but you allow yourself to judge, and play the connoisseur. But to know it, you must have fallen into it too early. You have to have been immersed in it for years, to know its history, to develop the right musical ear (yes, it's about ear, and not about neck muscles to nod for business!)...It's a whole process where there is no room for improvisation or false pretenses...You judge teenagers who discover Linkin Park or Slipknot, etc. while you yourself discovered these bands when you were twice the age of these teenagers! Ok ? It's not even the same as them, it's worse, because at least these kids have the excuse of being born too late ! What is your excuse?

I think our generation still hadn't gotten to the point of being in tune with how we feel and we turned to music from bands like Slipknot that allowed us to channel that rage and emotion we wouldn't normally show. I think what a lot of these kids aren't doing is feeling the music and instead focusing on just the aesthetics of it. Which btw, a big point. The 90s and early 2000s was a breakout point in culture for us.

They don't even understand their own emotions, or at least these individuals.
Slipknot is about the anger that builds up inside through your struggles and instead of acting out through anger, these songs release that said anger that we have built up.
They are the voice that other people don't have. They are a deep band because of their own experiences that is written through their songs.

To be fair, a LOT of Slipknot songs could be summed up as Corey being toxic and yelling I LOVED YOU NOW I SET YOU FREE I LET YOU GO I LET IT GO YOU SET ME FREE YOU DON'T KNOW ME YOU DON'T WANT ME I DON'T NEED YOU BUA BUAAA (and I've listened to all their songs, and in Stone Sour it's more or less similar), I know there are songs with deep meanings in this band and in metal in general, but let's face it, a big percentage are just screams with stupid lyrics and often cringey, that although we like it, it's perfect that others don't and they hear only noise and screams, Why does that have to be bad?

If you call yourself a metal head, then slipknot is definitely not "your" music. Slipknot was one of the nu "metal" pop bands that came onto the scene when actual Metal went largely out of business in the 90s, making music for angsty teenagers. They also paved the way for the later Insert-the-blank-core bands in the early 2000s that popped up everywhere.
Just saying, it's quite an isolated pop culture phenomena similar to Grunge and subsequently died in the same way. Luckily, actual Metal received quite the revival in recent years.
