I bought this product after you posted your previous video. It works like miracle. My hens don’t have worms or parasites, but one was constantly having diarrhea for over a month. After 3 days of mixing this in their feed , diarrhea is gone . I love your video. Keep them coming.
Been using it for years and have happy healthy chickens. I also give them a dusting of it about three times a year. Spring, middle of summer and fall. Never had a mite or lice problem. Just be sure to wear a mask and goggles. Given them a good dusting working in under their feathers. Belly and vent area especially. Use the same brand Becky uses. It’s great👍

I used DE to kill what I think were chinch bugs in my lawn. It took two applications. I just sprinkled it over the area. In three weeks all of the brown grass patches were gone and again I have beautiful, green saint augustine grass in that area.

I clean my hen house regularly and use DE on the floor, nesting boxes and roost. I even dust the chicken yard with it. But... I still have the tiny mites that keep coming back. Any suggestions as to how one deals with chicken mites in the tropics would be greatly appreciated.
It 100 percent is a dewormer. It takes a little longer than a blast from a chemical wormer but is effective and healthier. I have had stool samples done and no worms☀️❤️☀️

I know a woman that consumes it herself (in small doses mixed in food). I love that you mentioned the dust mask, so smart. What about dusting the chickens? Is the dust a concern for their lungs? Is there a way to put DE on their bodies to kill mites without it getting into their lungs - if that is even an issue? Maybe dusting them with a small fan blowing at them so it gets in their feathers but not in their nose/mouth/lungs...or face them into a breeze?

@@flyingcheff It's a fine powder, you should take care not to breathe it in or get it in the chickens lungs or eyes. Other than that, it's perfectly safe.
Wow! Thank you. I have been looking for one I know for sure is food grade! It seems hard to find. I just made a dust bath for my chickens.. I added diatomaceous earth and sand.. It was a 1 DE:4 Sand.. Some of my chickens have been eating it. But, mine was at a farm store specifically for chicken baths and enclosures. So I hope they will be okay. I cant figure out why one of my two year old chickens isn't laying. She hasn't laid eggs for about 6 months. She seems pretty healthy.. I cannot figure it out.. So, maybe she has some external parasites. Im going to try to give her a dust bath and DE and see if it helps her.
In the UK we use flubenvet pellets for worming. Using DE in their food affects their respiratory system and can cause problems. We only use DE in their dustbaths to stop mites, never ingested.
This DE is FOOD GRADE, Which is already commonly used in a lot of animal feed as an anti-caking agent. Birds inhaling it isn't a problem when you're mixing it in the feed before you bring it to them. Used this at the beginning with my first flock and all 9 of my hens had stayed healthy in my hot humid bug-ridden climate.
3 times a year mixing it in food is enough? I have one chix, given to us right now and just learning. Its Winter (Dec) so guess i will wait until Spring.

I started during the DR thanks to you about 6 months ago....and what a difference in my birds...i was using was one but that didn't work near as well and it was a chemical worker..so of course you couldn't eat your eggs for a couple weeks or so...with the DE there are no interruptions BECKY ......can you tell me what kind of work it is that comes out of the chicken when it drinks from the water bowl....it would be on the bottom of my black rubber bowl still alive in the water after the chicken drank..they were gross...they look like a whitish color and their skinny and long ..like some are half inch some are an inch or so..what are these? I looked up different chicken worms but couldn't find them!!!! And yes I'm sure that they were conning out of my chickens cuz I purposely watched and payed very close attention to what the heck was going on here????? I PRAY YOU CAN ANSWER THIS FOR ME... I would guess any living creature can get worms.. my brother growing up had tape worms.. I wonder if he ate something in the woods and somehow got worms.. Also the cat that I trapped because someone just dropped him off at a store that I would frequently stop there.. Even the store workers said the same thing. The cat had tapeworms.. I would guess he was out eating mice or garbage and got them.. I got him pills to correct the problem and he is a very happy now..

Just getting in backyard chickens and your vids are extremely helpful. How long can fresh laid eggs be kept outside in the coop and indoors before they're too old too eat? Does heat affect it?
As long as you don't wash them, eggs last for weeks. Just be sure they don't freeze and crack - then bacteria can get inside. And in the heat they will go bad faster.
They should be good for a month or longer stored in a cool dry place.I think like anything the elements speeed up deteroration.I would collect as soon as possible to keep the hens from going broody-eating eggs or spoiling eggs with dirt and feces.
I just thought of something... if one uses chicken poop in the compost and there are worms in it, will the worms "cook" in the compost or by using this type of compost the worms spread further?
I live in Crystal River, Florida. Last summer I built, with a friend a chicken coop. It turned out alright. I've never done anything like this before. My adult children knew that I wanted chickens. At the end of March I had emergency shoulder surgery. The day I came home my two boys went to the store and bought me eight chicks. Mind you I'm still recovering now the chicken coop is falling apart period being eaten up by termites, which the chickens love. I noticed on one of your videos that you help somebody rebuild their Coop and get it all cleaned up. If you're ever near Crystal River I would love for you to make an appointment and help me with mine. my doctor told me because of the extent of the damage of my shoulder that it might be another 10 to 12 months before I can really use my left arm. So I can't do it myself and because of the virus nobody really wants to come over here help. Which I really can't blame them. The area for the chickens is starting to fall apart, they keep getting out which is fine but then they're jumping the fence. Fortunately I'm on a dead end Street but I'm afraid that they're going to start walking up the street and get killed. Is there any advice you can give me or help? Thank you very much in advance.
Hi Becky I loved your video I have one question. In a country where it rains a lot and its raining right now, is there away to still keep chickens in rainy place, in the summer it doesn't rain that much as well what do you suggest I do.😁❤🐔
Where I live in the UK it rains a lot make sure the chickens/hens have a dry place to hide from the rain and the bedding is always cleaned out so they have dry bedding and is not left to go bad. Hope this is of some help.
Yes you can, you just have to build a coop that accommodates the wet weather. Build it so the hen house is plenty big enough for them To go in there and get out of the wet weather. If it is too small and over crowded trouble will start☀️❤️☀️
A few of my chickens have vent gleet I've put apple cider vinegar in their water does anyone know if it be better to add hydro hen as well or it will cancel each other out watched someone else say yogurt cancels of the acv.please help.thanks
Fresh Eggs Daily with Lisa Steele I respectfully disagree with you on that. I’ve noticed throughout my few years having chickens that DE will fix the poopy eggs situation. What I’ve been doing is wait until I see some poopy eggs to give them the DE. Becky has said the poopy eggs means worms are in their system, so I’ve always taken her word on that part.
@@FreshEggsDaily I went and did research just to double check mine and Becky's claims, and it overwhelmingly is on the side that DE acts as a de-wormer and kills parasites. I'm not sure where you're getting your research from. Here's one academic source that shows where it has great effect on chickens to kill parasites: academic.oup.com/ps/article/90/7/1416/1543647
@@drambo84 Inconclusive at best. Right from the study... "Supplementing DE in diets of LB hens, the more parasite-resistant breed, did not significantly affect their FEC and adult parasite load." It does work on external parasites though. That's what I use it for. I generally use .edu sources not RUclips videos or Facebook pages.
drambo84 that is extremely false, poopy eggs are most definitely not a sign of worms, when they are dirty it is because the chickens legs/feet are dirty. The only way to really know if a chicken has worms is by examining a stool sample.
This is news to me. I thought birds didn’t get worms because their body temps are too high, and the grinding in the crop crushes eggs and worms on the way in

I have never had DE cure worms in the gut. Although it's not hurtful but not necessarily a dewormer when worms are present

If you're ever near Crystal River I would love for you to make an appointment and help me with mine. my doctor told me because of the extent of the damage of my shoulder that it might be another 10 to 12 months before I can really use my left arm. So I can't do it myself and because of the virus nobody really wants to come over here help. Which I really can't blame them. The area for the chickens is starting to fall apart, they keep getting out which is fine but then they're jumping the fence. Fortunately I'm on a dead end Street but I'm afraid that they're going to start walking up the street and get killed. Is there any advice you can give me or help? Thank you very much in advance.
As long as you feed and water In your coop daily-your chickens won't stray too far.

Where I live in the UK it rains a lot make sure the chickens/hens have a dry place to hide from the rain and the bedding is always cleaned out so they have dry bedding and is not left to go bad. Hope this is of some help.
Yes you can, you just have to build a coop that accommodates the wet weather. Build it so the hen house is plenty big enough for them To go in there and get out of the wet weather. If it is too small and over crowded trouble will start☀️❤️☀️

Fresh Eggs Daily with Lisa Steele I respectfully disagree with you on that. I’ve noticed throughout my few years having chickens that DE will fix the poopy eggs situation. What I’ve been doing is wait until I see some poopy eggs to give them the DE. Becky has said the poopy eggs means worms are in their system, so I’ve always taken her word on that part.
@@FreshEggsDaily I went and did research just to double check mine and Becky's claims, and it overwhelmingly is on the side that DE acts as a de-wormer and kills parasites. I'm not sure where you're getting your research from. Here's one academic source that shows where it has great effect on chickens to kill parasites: academic.oup.com/ps/article/90/7/1416/1543647
@@drambo84 Inconclusive at best. Right from the study... "Supplementing DE in diets of LB hens, the more parasite-resistant breed, did not significantly affect their FEC and adult parasite load." It does work on external parasites though. That's what I use it for. I generally use .edu sources not RUclips videos or Facebook pages.
drambo84 that is extremely false, poopy eggs are most definitely not a sign of worms, when they are dirty it is because the chickens legs/feet are dirty. The only way to really know if a chicken has worms is by examining a stool sample.

I use DE in my vegetable garden to stop bugs. Also, I don't think I would use the OMRI DE from Home Depot or at least, I would never bake with it.
