We named our son Darien, because it means “gift”. So excited for you! I’ve cried happy tears through all these videos. (And yes, breastfeeding was so much worse than delivery. Get a good pump!)

I think everyone is different. You shouldn’t scare her like that about breastfeeding. I breastfed all my kids and I absolutely had no issues at all. Didn’t have one kid that didn’t latch good immediately, and I had very good supply, I breast fed a year with all my kids except the last and that was only due to my job being crazy busy and stressful and time would get away from me and would skip pumping times here and there and slowly my milk dried up. I was very bummed because I loved breastfeeding. It’s the most wonderful bonding experience. My husband loved it too because he never had to get up in the middle of the night with any of the kids. I could have pumped and had him give a bottle in the middle of the night feedings but I just loved that time with my babies so much I wanted to do it.
We went from referring to Tom as Elbow San and now we’re watching you and him reveal the gender of your baby together 😭 to watch the progression of your relationship has been such a treat and I’m so happy to have been able to cheer you guys on in your fertility journey (even if its from the future lol).
I still call him Elbow San!

As a canadian born cantonese child, i would highly recommend english names that are easy for cantonese relatives to say/pronounce :D

something with only 2 syllables that can be easily phonetically transliterated into a Chinese name with an appropriate meaning, e.g. David for 大偉 or 大為(big achievement); but not as the common transliteration 大衛, which really means nothing.
I'm Chinese but born and raised in Switzerland. I have two names on my passport, my first name is phonetically Chinese and my middle name is Stéphanie. that's what I'm gonna do for my future children aswell!
@@Steph-L So your name is similar in form to the ones that have adopted anglicized names in addition to their original Chinese names, other than most end up using the anglicized names as their first names & their Chinese names as the middle.
Congratulations! I love how elbow-san just knew what the gender would be, such a cute thing :') And the dim sum roulette is SUCH an amazing idea! Way better then the generic pink/blue cake or balloons, especially cause you have to count to figure out the real gender, love it!
As for gender neutral names, personally I've always like Lavi and Noah! though for girls it's usually written without the H at the end haha! I I've also loved Arya (noble) and Roshan (Brilliant, bright light) which are gender neutral Persian names :) But for American neutral names, my favourites have to be Amari and Idie. But ofcourse everyone has their own prefrences, and I'm sure your beatiful baby will have a lovely name chosen

As someone who has struggled unsuccessfully with fertility and ivf, I LOVE how you have presented your journey and I am so happy for you both! Congratulations!!!! I live in a country where adoption is not a possibility so instead I am the best Aunt!
What country doesn't allow adoption? That's horrible!
@@breakfastattiffanys741 It is forbidden in muslim law, instead there is "kafala" which means you take care of "someone else" but will never be considered your adoptive child officially. There is actually a pretty chocking behind-story of why adoption became forbidden in is lam, but let's keep the comments clean

It doesn't matter, but I found knowing the gender really helped me picture what life with a baby would be like and what they might look like. It made it easier to believe it was real if that makes sense!

I really struggled to bond and imagine life with a baby until I knew the gender and picked a name and I planned the pregnancy too 😅 so you'd think id be excited but instead I was freaking out the whole time. The 3D scan made things a little better.. even after he was born I didn't "bond" it took awhile
I know you all mean well but as a trans person battling the expectations my parents had for me had been extremely hard. They are mourning my life as if I’m not here anymore instead of celebrate knowing who I am. Please be careful with envisioning a whole life for your child because it might end up wildly different and the last thing a kid needs then is to deal with a parent trying to live through them and being upset that it’s not as perfect as my parents wanted it to be. It’s really rough.

And we just bought clothes and things in all colors and shapes independent of the "gender" they are ascribed and we didn't really care whether our baby would be either sex.
However, I don't think you should take parents being excited about the gender of their baby as a sign that they would love their child any less if the child realized that they have been assigned the wrong gender and acted on that. It's just the case for many people that any little detail about their baby is a way to connect with the tiny human that is slowly growing into their family. It's not malicious. Even making little jokes about the baby's future and what they might turn out to be is not meant to be a "living through the baby". When I called my baby a boxer for actively punching my bladder or a singer for "singing" on the ultrasound that was not meant as my assertion that I *want* a singer or a boxer.
I understand where you're coming from but I also think your experience is influencing what you assume people feel/think.

I'm so happy for both of you. I was recently pregnant myself. The expectet birth was beginning of April 2022, but unfortunately I lost our little one 3 weeks ago. It was and is incredibly difficult for me. To hear such happy stories as yours give me hope that it might work next time.

Not gender neutral, but a lovely nordic name would be *Leif* (spoken like "life") it mean heir. That way it would kind of have a beautiful double meaning.

We named our son Yuta because we wanted something Asian (the dad is Asian and I'm French) and something not common I'm France. But we really had hard time to choose because we always disagreed each other choice 😂 on the birth day before the delivery the nurse asked use how we wanted to name him and Yuta was our final choice wich belongs him very well 🥰

Just so you know, I watched the fertility episodes with my mother, we loved them. She's a doctor (and a little bit a whitch as well) and she has the super power of knowing the genders of babies. She saw you and said: boy. In like 1 second, didn't hesitate. My mother knew 100% that you guys were having a boy haha

So happy you’re going to be a fellow boy mum! I work at a hospital so I found out by scanning myself. Same. Everyone said it's a girl. We had a boy. In India we aren't allowed gender screening throughout the pregnancy. So only way to find out was the moment he was born.

I remember I was 100% sure I was having a girl. And even after the midwife had showed me on the scan that there waa no doubt I was having a boy, my brain kept telling me it was a girl. But I love my boy with all my heart and I wouldn't change a thing. He turns 12 this year. Its just so funny how the brain works sometimes. Hehe.

I had zero inkling of the gender. The ultrasound tech tapped my belly to move the baby and he just spread it out on full display, my husband was speechless and I was laughing.

I've always loved the names Avery and Ezra. They sound so light and free, which is sort of perfect for a spring baby. And they're also gender neutral! I'm sure whatever you pick though will be wonderful. Congrats!! 🎉🎊
