- In this video, I will demonstrate how to remove the Harley Davidson Flywheel (crankshaft) and the counterbalancer assembly. I'm using a softail "b" motor, but much of this is the same for an "a" engine. Click the links to playlists: (entire list link is the last one)

You will see that many of the tips and procedures used are universal for skill sets "every mechanic should know" and that the biggest value to my videos is the teaching of these skills that are not found in a service manual.
I often get asked this question:
Q: How does one learn these skill sets "every mechanic should know" if they are not found in a manual?
A: NUMBER 1.....GET DIRTY and start wrenching.
-Ask questions
-Find a seasoned craftsman to mentor under
-Tech schools can significantly speed this time up
-Research, read, watch RUclips videos
Tip: You will never learn it all from one source or in a short time period. No matter what craft you are trying to master, YOU must be dedicated and put the time in. THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THAN DOING! I will say it again, you must actually do the work to master it. You cannot just watch or read about it and master anything.
You want to be a master bike builder, mechanic, welder, nurse, carpenter or you fill in the blank?
-Don't take for granted opportunities to learn deeper
-Be humble and seek advice
-Be intentional with your learning plan
-Don't blame a school, job or your parents for not giving you ever answer, go get it!

You really enjoy your work and it shows. I really like how you explain clearly what you want your assistants to do before going forward. You might want to buy a hand impact driver, something we used on early metric bikes and their butter metal hardware. Great Videos!
Good morning 🌅, great work,
We love sharing comments like this with Shane.

Motorcycle 101 - Impact Screwdriver and Rubber Mallet for those Torq Bolts. Other then that I liked the video
Just brilliant to see some one that knows what they are doing. I enjoyed this whole Twincam series. These Harley engines are pretty simple to work on as long as there are helpful video's like this to watch. This guy has built some nice Harley's over the years.
I am re-doing the EVO vids next to match this TC format and shorten up. Stay Tuned. They will be dvd or downloadable! What do you ride or work on friend?

is it ok to heat the torx bolts that hold the balance plate to the engine to soften the locktite?
Yes. A must do at times to remove bolts without pulling threads. Have you Subscribed yet to never miss a video? Have you seen the video playlists ruclips.net/user/conleybuiltplaylists ? Quick answers are often found here. No time to look through videos?

tw, as TheBeliever said above, get a Hand Impact driver. One of the greatest tools for working on bikes. Especially old metric engines that use phillips screws on casing covers.
Do not tell me? How long is the resource for balancing shaft tensioners? At what run of bowels do you change them?
Shane these videos are awersom they help me out no end i wish could have all of them on DVD .
I'm from Melbourne Australia keep up the good work
