    Can someone explain why the pushrods have to come out when doing a cam upgrade. Is just to remove the pressure of the lifter from the cam base circle?

    • @Knightrider1506
      @Knightrider1506 Год назад

      That's it. That way, the cam isn't pushed down as you remove the cover and damage the cam bearing surface or damage the case..

    Hi Shane,
    I just changed my Tensioners on my 03 twin cam 88. I used a new tool to change the secondary tensioner without removing the cams from the plate. When I try to put the rockers back on the pushrods alway seem to get tension on them as I begin to tighten them. I am at TDC but I don't get the relaxed rockers and pushrods as I begin to tighten down the assembly. I lined up the two timing dots on the sprockets and never took the inside cam chain off. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

    Shane, just became a member after years of watching your content and I wanna say thanks for posting these how-to vids. They truly help the DIYer or entry level mechanics like myself! I noticed you used the heim joints to split the cases on a twin cam B, will this method work on the early A models? 01 engine case with the good pinion bearings, so I really don’t want to disturb the crank too much unless absolutely necessary. I have to split the cases to clean some metal particles from a botched inner cam bearing installation, so I’m doing a 95 big bore kit and new cams/oil pump/cam plate (hyd tensioner upgrade) while she’s tore down. If I do in fact have to press the crank out, do you recommend replacing the pinion bearings with new, (The bike ran great, no flywheel issues to my knowledge.) Or just compare the run out before and after reassembly?Any help is appreciated, thanks again!

    Can you reuse the stock pushrods if you are replacing the cams?

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  4 года назад

      If stock cams yes for sure. I've always replaced because of habit, or ease (a must to leave the rocker boxes in place) or the sales "hype" of stronger. It has always seemed to me, the best pushrod would be non-adjustable and a set length. Wish I had a better answer for you.

      Shane does try answer some non members questions when he get's some time so hang tight if joining is not an option for you.
      One of these days I hope to move from the office to the shop! Wish I knew the answer but don't want to bs you. He couldn't screen these requests fast enough...
      If you need help sooner choose or more personal his 1:1 option is below!
      He just returned from overseas training techs and his inbox is slammed with requests. He is scheduling time each day again to answer techline orders. He does not have the bandwidth to provide email replies as his schedule is full with shop customers, training schedules, and one on ones.
      There's good news though! A deep dive one-on-one with him is an option. Use video, email and phone support.

    Is it necessary to take the lower rocker box cover off every time you pull the pushrods?

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  4 года назад

      I want to say no as long as there is room to remove the pushrod up and out. For example, some models may need that extra little side clearance a removed lower rocker gives. I would say if they come out then no for sure but keep in mind that it only a few bolts and you can get a new lower gasket in place and start its bday over.

    Why is adding an external breather catch can modification so popular if there is a filter that prevents oil from going back into the air intake under a umbrella valve in the rocker box? Does the filter and umbrella valve not work well?

    Not replacing that o-ring under the breather could it cause a P0108 code to come up? Map sensor? Replaced map sensor on my 04 flstci still getting code and intermittent hesitation. Driving me freaking nuts. Did a voltage test and I'm getting the correct voltage. I was thinking that the o-ring might have something to do with it? It however started to have that issue before I ever took the bike apart. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  4 года назад

      If replacing the part related to the code doesn't solve something, think about downstream parts related to its fuction. Any ALWAYS replace orings, vacuum lines etc while making every connection correct. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Anyone on here got a direction to point them you in?

    can I use 103 heads on my 88ci

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  7 лет назад

      I believe they will physically bolt on, but have no idea on if there would be a power gain or loss. Many factors come into account. One could assume the 103 has bigger valves. If a stock 88 cams are used then if may actually be worse. You would want to match the cams, valves size to desired performance. Also, you could possible loss performance by the heads having a larger cc capacity which would lower engine compression ratio.

    • @trentsellers7448
      @trentsellers7448 5 лет назад

      From the research I have done the SE 103 ci heads are the same as the SE 95 ci heads and the cylinders have the same size bore what makes it a 103 is a stroker flywheel assembly. My bike is a 01 springer and has the SE big bore cylinders and SE heads and 99% sure it has the stroker flywheel assembly. A HD tech was the original owner he knew what he was doing it is very impressive to ride definitely in the 100+ club it’s a ripper!

  • @theslowride66
    @theslowride66 7 месяцев назад

    Of coarse if you doing this IN THE BIKE forget about power tools Buy a 1/4 drive 7/16th socket to grind down & be prepared to undo & remove the front motor mount fuel tank coil assembly . Putt the spark plugs out Jack it up put it in 6th gear to rotate engine & put back in so you dont drop anything down the open spark plug hole Front one is easy back one is tougher but not too bad if on a street glide or bagger. Definitely have to jack up & down the engine
