Once again a great info packed video. I've never opened a Harley motor in my 7 years of working at bikes but nice to see the workings and technology of them.

Slide a zip tie over tensioner with locking head facing up and out. Route tie around back and out front of assembly. When you pull tie through locking head, pull downward and this will pull tensioner back into housing. Will not only hold tensioner in retracted position, but will hold it there for reassembly.

After watching this video, I got rid of my 02 Springer Heritage Softail that I had wanted for years.. More rotating mass + more chain = more chance of future catastrophic failure! I made an even trade for a 67 Electraglide in very good condition that goes with my 72. Will never own anything newer than an Evolution!

Good morning 🌅, I am from the future, as this was posted 8 years ago, I have a 2003 TC B Deuce, I purchased it secondhand about three months ago, , whoever had it before me hasn’t looked after it very well, and occasionally I have strange noises coming from it, I believe for the bottom end and the top end, I’ve taken it to a HD, service tech, I was hoping that they were taken it for a ride but did not, When it was running at HD, it sounded okay from what the tech was saying, it had some bad leaks from the inner primary, So I’ve actually put on a new drive belt the sprocket off the gearbox, upgraded the main shaft bearing, and removed the sleeve that old bearing used torun On,
The bike has done around 50,000 miles , and I have noticed that it has got S&S G510 cams in it, But it still has got the original backplate from HD, but I can’t quite tell whether it has got the upgraded oil pump or not, And not hundred percent sure whether it’s been potted as well, to 1550, So I’m hoping that it lasts until the winter time and I’m thinking of stripping it completely, and rebuilding the engine, which will probably include a new crankshaft with Bearings, as I believe this is the year that they change the bearings on the crankshaft and cases,
Will I need any specialist alignment tools? , I am thinking of purchasing a press, and at present, I do not have a major bike lift, I have one that lifts the bike off the ground, but not to be able to work on it properly, What is your thoughts, please?, Would it be better to purchase a new motor?, Or to attempt to rebuild this one, Part of my problem is that I live in France, but I am English, And cannot seem to find people that does engine work, If you could give me some advice, be very much appreciated, I’ve been watching quite a few of your territories. They do seem to be very explicit and very helpful., Thanks from France,

Let me try and see I can catch Shane to answer quick. He is currently at an extended stay in Japan training students this winter. We are just the social media team.
Due to his limited bandwidth on time and demand for help, we had to choose to forward any requests from members first and it is only $1.99 a month to join. All member tech questions like this get directly forwarded to him every day! Be mindful and honest that this is for "quick questions" that would serve you answers that can clearly be addressed. If it's a diagnosis need you'll need to use the one-on-one service.

Pretty sure the engineers over-engineered on this one. Trying to compete with other manufacturers that make more efficient use of metal and quieter. Unfortunately I'm inside an 88b that had a front cam bearing failure. Yep, all the tensioners are well within spec, the unit was serviced regularly with hd hogwash products. Though I know everything can and will fail, cam setup in the evo made more sense. People have this pre-conceived notion that hd is great because it is American made. What I see is a corporation that lost sight of its customers wants and needs. American steel for an American rider. Something well built and reliable. It looks like a Timken bearing on the flywheel you are demonstrating with.
