    What is a valve adjustment and how to I adjust my valves?
    A valve adjustment is adjusting the clearance between the cam and the top of the valve. In between the top of the valve and the cam may be any sort of rocker arm, bucket, shim ETC. On these shim style Toyota engines like the 3SGTE, 2JZGTE etc they have a shim on top of the bucket and in late models below.
    Also referred to as valve clearance

    Slipping the shims out without taking all the caps off is such a nice trick. Had been dreading trying to check the clearances on my own cause my MR2 is fairly noisy and I feel way better about it!

      Yes just keep in mind, 3rd gen and up is under the bucket and requires removal. 2nd gen is super easy but also prone to popping out with aftermarket cams and high RPM. Ive run up to 7800 RPM on the gen 2 no problem including usings 2step launch

    Nice, concise explanation. I'll be referring to this when I check the clearances on my 3RZ.

    The nut and bolt type tapet might be easier to adjust but more often the nut strips and requires replacement 👎

    Just finding this video. Mine are noisy currently, where did you buy this tool?

      Blue point makes it, I'm sure there are some other types. I've gotten good at using a flat head and slipping it vertically between the cam to drop the bucket. Then a magnet to get the shim out

    Great video , wheres the best place to get these shims in canada ? Dealers or somewhere else ? btw your st185 subframe bushing kit is now at 200'000km on my car.

      😜 Thank you! I have a lot of shims here, VS going to the dealer they are available. If you send me the sizes you need I can measure what I have. Glad to hear the rear kit is doing so well

    Do you think this tool will work for adjusting Suzuki (M13A)? Thank you for the video really helpful and well done

      I'm not familiar with the engine but this should work on almost any shim over bucket style tappet

    is it better shim on bucket or shimless bucket?

    • @xiiimotorsports
      @xiiimotorsports  4 месяца назад +2

      For higher rpm use with a high lift cam you should change to shimless. But for rpm under 7800 shim with stock lift cams over bucket is fine

      @@xiiimotorsports thank you. I have ported and polished head with everything refurbished. Unknown I take cam and hks exhaust cam. Is it noticeable the power increment with stage 3 BC cams and shim less?

      @joseantoniodaly4875 what engine are we talking about ? 3sgte ? You will need a bigger turbo to support the increase in flow

      @joseantoniodaly4875 that's lots of turbo, you will be fine for air flow
