    Love this video and your detailed instructions! However I made the spaces between my knots smaller to be able to hold clementines. I also started my first row of square knots flush to the dowel for more protection if it gets over-filled. Subscribing for sure 😊

    Your instructions were very easy to follow. My finished piece measures as you have indicated in comments to others posts however the hammock did not hold the fruit it just fell out.

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад +1

      I have had that happen too sometimes but I just move the ropes around, make sure they are all the way across the dowels, rearrange the fruit so the larger ones are on the bottom, things like that. You could also try adding a couple more rows so the knots are closer together, that might help.

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      You're welcome! I bought them at the Dollar Tree. It is a mini travel Jenga game. If you can't find it you may want to try balsa wood from most craft stores or Amazon, you might have to cut them down to size but it is pretty soft wood so it shouldn't be too hard. Hope this helps.

    The cotton rope you are using looks bigger than the 3mm 🤔 also can you add on additional ropes after completed? It's not wide enough with 8 pcs. This was a great tutorial....thank yoy

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      Hi, yes, It is a standard 3 mm macrame rope. I think yes; you could add more. You would just need to take out some of the knots on the side you add them onto.

  • @jinjintiger

    great tutorial, esp for a macrame newbie. how long do you decide to cut the rope pieces? I was hoping to make a longer hammock. thanks!

      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      Thanks! I cut mine at 5 1/2 feet but you definitely could make them longer.

  • @ladydylana
    @ladydylana 3 года назад

    Thank you so much I’m going to be making one this week. Can you tell me how long and wide the finished hammock is if I used the rope lengths you provide?

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      You're welcome! I am not sure exactly sure how long it is as mine has stretched some since I have been using it. Right now, mine is about 18 inches. It is about 10 inches wide as I stretch it to the edge where the cup hook is. So it covers the length of the dowels allowing about an inch on each side for the cup hook. Some people have said theirs did not turn out long enough so if you want yours to be longer you may want to cut your ropes longer from the beginning and add some extra rows, just in case. Good luck!

    • @ladydylana
      @ladydylana 3 года назад

      Thanks you so much for getting back to me. My friend wanted it 20 inches so I will cut cords just a little longer. ❤️

  • @stephaniegarcia5665

    Would it still work the same if I used slightly thicker rope and dowels?

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      I'm not sure, but I think so. It might even make it more sturdy and hold more fruit. Not sure if the velcro version would hold the extra weight though. You might need to attach with screws.

    Do you know how to macrame large glass balls? I have some from my husband's grandmother, and I'd love to hang it up as decor around the house. Thanks in advance!

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      I haven't made one like that before but it would be an interesting challenge. I assume the base would need to have a closely knotted basket weave pattern to hold it in place. I'll see if I can practice one and if it turns out, I'll make a future video. Thanks for the idea!

  • @summercorrieri606

    What is the length if your hammock? I would love to make one for myself but I have about 15 inches to play with under my cabinet.

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад +2

      If you are referring to the depth of the cabinets, mine are 12 inches. The dowels are also 12 inches long, so they come right to the edge. If you are referring to how far apart I placed the dowels, they are 13 inches apart. I think either way, it sounds like you would have enough with your 15 inches. Hope that helps. :)

    I’ve done this 3 times now and each time the hammock isn’t wide or doesn’t have enough slack to put fruit in without it spilling out. I’ve tried giving more space between the rows but still the same outcome. I am using a single strand rope instead but didn’t think it’d effect the pattern so much.Any tips?

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад +1

      I had that problem with my first try too. I had left too much space between the lattice pattern, meaning between the rows of square knots. Also the slack is based on the distance between the two dowels. My dowels are about 13 inches apart, for reference. It might also be the type of rope as you mentioned. I have noticed mine has stretched a little over time but it has not effected the hold of the fruit. Hope this helps.

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      Hi Frances, I assume you are meaning the rope slides toward the center of the dowels. Mine does that some times too but I just push them apart again and once i add the fruit the weight creates enough pressure to keep them in place. Hope this helps.

    • @janellejoy8617
      @janellejoy8617 3 года назад

      I decided to add for rope, like instead of 8 i had 12 to make the net part bigger

    It’s super frustrating to try to follow this video. I started and got so confused why the first lengths were different and thought I missed something so I went back and restarted to match the lengths and I’ve had to restart this for a third time because I thought I messed it up.

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад

      I'm sorry you had so much trouble with it. I suggested adding some additional length to the cords as some people had commented that it was too short. I find with Macrame it helps to cut your cords a little longer than suggested, just in case. But, of course that is just a personal preference.

  • @susyshepard320
    @susyshepard320 3 года назад

    You didn't tell how far apart to place the two dowels.

    • @marlamakes5740
      @marlamakes5740  3 года назад +1

      Yes, sorry about that. Mine are about 13 inches apart but that amount determines how deep the drop is so if you want a deeper drop (meaning more space for more fruit) you could put them slightly closer together. Hope this helps.

    • @susyshepard320
      @susyshepard320 3 года назад

      @@marlamakes5740 now I'm sorry. I should have said that I already knew the answer. I was just pointing it out so that you could tell others who might not know. Your macrame was very nice. 😊
