I think every Tekken character should be designed in the same fashion as Steve, in the sense that he's very unique without generic stuff shared by other characters. I say this because I really want them to do away with generic hopkicks and df2 uppercut launchers. I think launchers shouldn't be so abusable like hopkicks. Just look at Steve, Bryan, Dragunov, Kaz, Heihachi etc. Great characters that rely solely on their own unique tools. I think hopkicks are antiquated and should be replaced, especially because they can lead to massive damage at the cost of what? A 12 frame punish? Not to mention they look awkward and janky aesthetic wise. And it'll also mitigate the juggle fest that Tekken has become and turns many newer players off. We'll see far more footsies and neutral play. Every character should have their own unique answers to 15f punish. Launchers would be slower, requiring you to either telegraph or anticipate in using them, making those reads and the follow up combo actually rare but also impressive for once. Some combos are tuff sure, but they get old real fast, Tekken should be "toe to toe" not "who can dribble a basketball better".
Steve is difficult if you can’t mix-up for different play styles. Coming up against characters that primarily have low aggressive play styles and punishing launches are the bane of my very existence.
In my opinion you have to play mind games with the opponent and be aggressive in order to win with Steve. In most matches I find that if you counter hit quite a few of your opponents moves this leads them to turtle more because they don't want to eat a combo. When this happens I put pressure with peek a boo and flicker. Also thing to note is if you're in peek a boo and you feel like they re about to press a button pressing 2 will punish them
That's so true I'm Genbu with Steve you have to rely a lot on counter hit and if the openent don't come at you you have to poke him but Steve is not god tier at poking
i asked you yesterday for steve, and on top of that you said it "you need the opponent to dance with you" and THAT'S IT! im from Argentina, Buenos Aires, the place in which Tango was created!!! and as you said "it takes 2 to dance tango" PERFECT COMMENT FROM YOU!
Im a steve player and I really just have 1 combo but I mastered how to dodge thus making this character very satisfying dodging like 70-90% off the opponents attack is damn satisfying for your end and very mentally exhausting for the opponent
Seems like hwoarang is tough because of move set. It took me a year back in T3 days to unconsciously integrate his moves. Lee and Steve is because of game plan. All need good execution too.
Steve's been my main since T5. I was blown away how unique he was and haven't dropped him since. Hopefully you do a Nina video at some point. She's my other main as well and she is SO hard to play.
I remember starting off in tekken last year and not knowing who to really focus on. At first i chose Paul because he just looked cool, that was it, then I learned how OP he was at times and it soured me from playing him, (i saw the damage from death fist) and then I looked around and I saw a boxer was a character I could play and I really enjoyed boxing so I figured he’d be cool. I had no idea what I got myself into but now my execution with Steve is great and I’m really happy with my choice.
While Steve does not have the frames to really launch punish that well, it is pretty easy to sneak in launches with counter hits and with his 4,1,2. I find that the most difficult part of Steve is learning how to mix up everything with his duck game. Albatros into Peekaboo is pretty straight forward for when you need to close the distance and still mix things up. I will say that Steve is probably the most range dependent character in the game next to Hwoarang. He needs to be right up close to really be a threat with his duck game and Peekaboo. Albatross is fancy but its easy to see the mix ups from it. If you keep Steve at mid range with lots of mids and you never side step, its pretty hard for the Steve player make things happen. He is pretty much waiting for counter hits at that point.
I think these videos are helping a lot TMM, thank you for covering Steve. You know often time people that play gimmicky characters that have a lot of bullshit think that people like me are being hateful when I refuse to give them the same respect as people that use some of these challenging characters. I'm not saying that people that use those characters cannot be skilled in their own right, but I'm just not going to say that those characters are just as challenging as my character if it's a lie. Use whatever character you like, but be willing to admit an easier character is easier. That's why easy and difficult characters exist. I don't believe in using the difficulty as an excuse or crutch for when you lose, because you take that on when you choose them, however don't disrespect the fact that the effort we both put in is not equal. Some characters are easier than others and some characters have more tools.
Thanks for the recognish TMM. Can’t tell you how much shit I catch for playing Steve and it’s nice to hear somebody actually explain the difficulty of the character.
It all comes down to muscle memory tbh Once u gain some appreciation for his move list and U playing rank and it just comes to you which move is suited . That’s when u get it right ...lol
I played a lot of tekken back in the day (never got good), stopped after 5, started picking up boxing recently, remembered Steve, bought tekken 7 (great decision). I am bad at fighting games, so this might be a bad decision. But I really want to learn Steve to the best of my abilities. He is so much fun to play as.
As a Steve main who stopped playing after T5 and returned to the series in T7, he is a VERY different character now. You'll know what I'm talking about when you play online.
The way steve fights puts horror on opponents face i am a lee and steve player btw both are my first characters and boy i am dumb choosing them at first but nothing gives me more satisfaction than winning with steve and lee chaolan their difficulty is what i love.
I don't respect TMM's opinions on Tekken. To me, he's an asshole. He takes top tier characters like Steve and says that they're super difficult to use. Then, because he's a hater, he takes underpowered characters like Nina and tries to convince everyone that characters like her are the easiest in the world to use. Nina is no easier than Steve. In fact, she's harder than Steve to use properly. She's also much more difficult to win with consistently. She's a bottom tier character. Steve is top tier. Steve's stances are also not that difficult to utilize. TMM is exaggerating, as always. I'm not saying that Steve isn't difficult to use properly, but what I'm saying is that he is no harder than Nina. Nina is actually harder! TMM posting videos online of him using Nina to beat up beginners, and then saying that Nina is easy...that's craziness.
@@shaolinprince777 haha, no Steve is way harded than Nina. I play them both and Steve has way harder execution and gameplan than Nina. Nina is pretty hard on tournaments couse her tools arnt that tournament friendly. While online Nina is a MONSTER with one of the highiest online win rates in the game . Couse she has a lot of easy to do annoying plus on block strings and mixups. The only thing with Nina that needs a little practice are butterfly combos and string cancels ( wich are pretty easy too ). Compering that to Steve where anything requires fundamental skill, execution, match up knowlowedge and his hard game plan is really dumb. I understand that you like Nina ( i love her too ) but lets be real with our selfes. We both know if we had 3 categories of difficulity : Beginner, Intermidiate and Advanced. She would be Intermidiate difficulity at most.
I feel like a few of Steve’s tools are quite similar to King’s. B1 CH launcher, slow while rising launcher, df2 not a classic launcher, not the best lows. You really have to be smart with your offense for both characters. I’d be curious to hear TMM’s thing for King
I guess main differences would be King has a hop kick, doesn’t have high execution for most of his tools, and has more ways to mix up his opponent without relying entirely on CH, his unblockables, throw mixups and lows give him a big bag of tricks to use.
Jordan waaait a minute , I was just like you I thought King is not a high execution character, until I saw lil Majin at evo and I switched from bryan to king(I can do taunt jetupper in matches offline) King was weirdly hard ! I’m not talking about combos I’m talking like getting the ally kick after f2,1 or df21 into combo or getting the guaranteed hits after throws especially when you want the high damage stuff not just an ally kick. Also decision making at the wall was so difficult to be honest
Jordan I don’t disagree. As a character King is definitely more “complete” and has a bigger repertoire of stuff to do. As far as execution though there’s like a wide operating range for him. He can be easy execution with the bread and butter combos or you can make him super high execution if you want things like instant shining wizard, wavedashing, max damage combos, and certain cool setups to be a big part of your game
@@Shadow456376 It still doesn't seem like King has a higher execution barrier than Steve overall (and I can do all of his Throw Combos) when pulling off any Steve BnB combo requires pretty high skill, where King obviously isn't a basic character but beyond some specific tools has a fairly accessible skill level even with iSW, throw chains, and his optimal damage combos.
As a boxer in real life, playing Steve I rely on intuition on the opponent's next move. By being aggressive then when you sense there counter attack you can duck or move based off your matchup knowledge
Been a Steve main since tekken 5. He took a while to get used to and he was a major go to in 6 along with baek. However his sways come in handy, along with his power hits. It’s good to know his entire movelist. My friends hate when I play him or King. That peek a boo stance shouldn’t be taken lightly when pros know how to utilize it. But the way you play him on top of his speed, really kicks ass. I read player movements. I haven’t played in months but I had always wanted to go into a tournament.
4:08 - Facts. As a Steve main I approve, it's always a pleasant surprise to bump into another Steve and see much different strats and play-style. May the best Steve win :)
He’s my favourite character used him since tekken 4 the truck for me is ALWAYS close the distance it works well for me and mix it up ALOT try not to do the same thing twice and be patient don’t mash the buttons if your up against the wall because he is the worst character to do that with you need to know exactly what your doing with him don’t try massive combos just keep chipping away and work on your defence
One thing thats Missing is you can Make a Lot of his save With f3 or 4 and cancel it With db its also is great for pressure because you can easily switch into peek-a-boo With a df2 like that or to a whilst standing 1 or 1,2
I love playing against Steve. I feel he is easy as hell to beat. I use feng and king and both are vanquishers so those Steve’s must be good as well but he is really easy to beat by not being aggressive
one amazing advantage steve has is the side step to side sway combo, immediately puts you behind opponents on big whiffs faster than any normal sidestep, its a guaranteed PAB combo from there.. some things i dont like about steve now is they removed some stuns from counterhits (albatross + 2(mid), and also the ff2 str8 cross punch(high). b2 is great for counterhits but its only high. also before you can pull off an albatross from a 121 combo, there's a slight delay now.
As a Steve main, I don't actually find him all that hard. He's just unorthodox. I started off with Drag, a very generic pressure character, but I was truly raised with Steve. When I say he's not hard, I basically just mean execution... I have a harder time deciding whether or not to df2 than doing his extdck1 combo... Whatever, roast my elitist ass proudly.
The thing with Steve is that he has too many high moves and no fast and damaging mids His execution is tough and I am okay with that, but not having any decent fast launchers and only having to rely on b1 and df2, makes it disappointing to play him. And then they nerfed df2 LOL
Tell me about it. As a returning Steve main from T5, his learning curve has been raised through the roof. In T5, his df+2 launched aside from his b+1 counter hit. His db+2 also knocked down. 3+4,2 was a launcher on counter hit. Not to mention his sidestep could dodge everything.
You should do one of Eliza. Lol. I’ll donate $20 if you do. Eliza is kind of trash and depends on a players knowledge of the cast to punish. Instant Dive kicks are important for wake up pressure. 1, dp2 is crucial for punishing -10 thru -13 frame moves. I could say more but we all know how you feel about the character. Lol
Replying to an old-ass video but, Steve is extremly situational.. you can rush but at the same time you have to switch to defense simultaniously. THE hardest character in the game IMO..
@@yorenton Yes, even him.. with Jin you can atleast launch punish correctly.. Steve cant.. and even when you get to launch your opponent, the juggle damage wil be laughable..
As a noob Steve I can confirm that he excels at pressure. The only things I need for steve is counter hit combos and stop pressing so many buttons. I actually get counter hit a lot lmao
Hmm tbh hearing this He is a save characters makes me want to learn something :g. Usually when playing Lee it takes not counter hit launchers to beat me out of HMS. Yet while play against Steve every single down 3 makes him Fall down if He is in PKB stance. Or Just as I recon it. Do not See him that often. Does getting a hit during a stance with counter hit moves count as they hit you during an attack?
I'm pretty average, but in my opinion it's his tool box. Bad lows, no reliable launchers, mediocre range. Smart pressure and counter hits are his main weapons. His mix up is very easily interrupted with mid pokes. I am big fan of Steve and his boxing oriented style, but he could use more tools.
I think the technical executions isn't a problem for Steve you just have to get used to it. Even with 3 or below bars most of the time it's still manageable unlike Lee. The most difficult part is probably utilizing all of his stances for good pressure and not only PAB stance.
Exactly, getting good execution with him comes down to muscle memory at the end of the day, and his stuff can be done regardless of the ping sometimes which is the difference with Lee. Still a great character though
You can watch my videos or Fighters Generation's channel that has many Steve's highlights play. Based on my experiences: 1. Big combos damage with his quick rage drive and rage art 2. Best CH character with his b+1 Although almost all his movesets are having counter properties 3. Best rushdown-pressure-poke character if you like aggresive all-out attack play 4. Dodge. You can get perfect easily if you can read opponent's playstyle, dodge and launch their strings 5. No need for kbd or sidewalk/sidestep, you can focus attacking while dodging or blocking opponen't strings 6. Almost all his moves have shortest recovery frames compares to others, so you can presure play safely 7. Best wall carry and damage 8. Best for baiting opponent and fun to play
steve may be hard but b1 into flicker is a safe, -1 on block ch launcher at i13 frames. even if you duck that move you can’t punish him and dont even try it on whiff. that move is just cheap
Steve difficult ? He is one of the most rewarding character to learn, which is why I have been using him since T5. His b+1 and DCK cancel is so fun to abuse..LOL
I'm trying to learn how to play Steve. But i don't really play Tekken 7. I'm practicing on a Tekken 6 Emulator. But i don't think Steve will be not to hard to master. But i don't know how to combo yet
@themainmanswe hey bro love your vid . btw can u teach me how to do the steve dash?? and also how to do the instant FC df+1.. mine was slower can u put the correct notation?
As a pro Steve Fox player, there is a lot in this video that I disagree with. Overall when you play with Steve Fox you don't need a standing launch move to defeat your opponent. You can use that to your advantage! When playing with Steve you gotta think outside the box, learn all throw moves, and learn to trick your opponent. Lastly, you can be aggressive and/or passive when playing with Steve depending on your play style and opponent. Also sometimes it's not best to complete all combo move sets and understand the pros and cons of each move.
I dont cate if steve is really difficult. What made want to play him is because of how satisfying it is to play him especially everytime i hit b+1 i orgasm
You guys have so many simple and rewarding stuff but keep on wanting attention lol. I can play Paul with IWS and wavedashing as well. I don't know here that well so tell me what can't she do without complicated execution ? combo damage ?
Memorization and Execution. Its overwhelming to learn him but hes one of the most fun characters to play. Everybody can play and mash buttons with him but only a rare percentage can pull out a full combo or avoid mashing punches in a round.

Also thing to note is if you're in peek a boo and you feel like they re about to press a button pressing 2 will punish them
I wouldn't call steve a mindgame, you just have to maintain the pressure long enough that you can throw in a mixup
@@abirneji not really steve is not a snow ball charecter

Imo, Steve Fox and Lee Chaolan are harder and tougher characters to master compared to Hwoarang.
Steve been my main since T5 too, BEST character in the game 🐐
Steve lost his "advantage" in Tekken 7 due to the nerfed general movement in the game. I'll still relearn him eventually...
Nice. Steve is my main favorite character, and it pretty much touches the basics of why he is a difficult character
Really? I'm an Orange rank Steve and I've never received a single complain
Giuseppe Garrubba a lot of people like to complain that because of all his counter hits he’s an easy character, but in reality they’re just stupid.
@@liveordie200

why steve is so difficult? easy, he has too many stances for me to memorize and utilize. i give props to all players who can play him

Thanks, man, I'm a Steve main
It all comes down to muscle memory tbh
Once u gain some appreciation for his move list and
U playing rank and it just comes to you which move is suited .
That’s when u get it right ...lol
You know that you’re fucked up when Steve launches a whiff punish SHURYUUKEN
I played a lot of tekken back in the day (never got good), stopped after 5, started picking up boxing recently, remembered Steve, bought tekken 7 (great decision). I am bad at fighting games, so this might be a bad decision. But I really want to learn Steve to the best of my abilities. He is so much fun to play as.
As a Steve main who stopped playing after T5 and returned to the series in T7, he is a VERY different character now. You'll know what I'm talking about when you play online.
The way steve fights puts horror on opponents face i am a lee and steve player btw both are my first characters and boy i am dumb choosing them at first but nothing gives me more satisfaction than winning with steve and lee chaolan their difficulty is what i love.
he was complicated and had high reward in return that was amazing
May as well just make a "What makes Tekken so hard" video (except Noctis???).

An Amazing Steve Player
Waiting on that "What Makes Nina so Difficult"
EVERYTHING !!!!!!!! *screams silently*
Ws1 loops. That's about it, she's kinda easy. Execution is tough, but that's it. Nina isn't that special.
@@TojekPL what region do you play in and on what system?
Steve is awesome
4:08 - Facts. As a Steve main I approve, it's always a pleasant surprise to bump into another Steve and see much different strats and play-style. May the best Steve win :)
He’s my favourite character used him since tekken 4 the truck for me is ALWAYS close the distance it works well for me and mix it up ALOT try not to do the same thing twice and be patient don’t mash the buttons if your up against the wall because he is the worst character to do that with you need to know exactly what your doing with him don’t try massive combos just keep chipping away and work on your defence
Loving this series Mainman!
90% of the twitch chat "hi youtube". Hehehe I'm so smart I can use my historical logic to predict when a clip will be on youtube.
i fell in love with this channel man wow
One thing thats Missing is you can Make a Lot of his save With f3 or 4 and cancel it With db its also is great for pressure because you can easily switch into peek-a-boo With a df2 like that or to a whilst standing 1 or 1,2
Not to mention 121 jails on block so they are scared of it
I love playing against Steve. I feel he is easy as hell to beat. I use feng and king and both are vanquishers so those Steve’s must be good as well but he is really easy to beat by not being aggressive
Exactly if you turtle, down jab him when hes ducking and backdash, hes fucked
That might work on an infinite screen, but anywhere with walls and you're going to get wrecked,Steve excels at constant pressure
one amazing advantage steve has is the side step to side sway combo, immediately puts you behind opponents on big whiffs faster than any normal sidestep, its a guaranteed PAB combo from there..
some things i dont like about steve now is they removed some stuns from counterhits (albatross + 2(mid), and also the ff2 str8 cross punch(high). b2 is great for counterhits but its only high.
also before you can pull off an albatross from a 121 combo, there's a slight delay now.
What is the side step to side sway combo? Teach me please.
@@enginkara1755it's when you cancel a side step into a sway, it has very high evasion
@@enginkara1755like d -> 4
@@enginkara1755honestly if you're just learning to play him, that's not the first thing you should learn. Learn what you can do off of 121
As a Steve main, I don't actually find him all that hard.
Steve has that drop kick
And his moves are designed to combo and run together. Beat up you opponent like in boxing
I'm terrible at Steve and can play much better with Drag and Paul, but something about steve is rewarding
The thing with Steve is that he has too many high moves and no fast and damaging mids
His execution is tough and I am okay with that, but not having any decent fast launchers and only having to rely on b1 and df2, makes it disappointing to play him.
Its 2021 and df2 isn't even homing anymore
You should do one of Eliza. Lol. I’ll donate $20 if you do. Eliza is kind of trash and depends on a players knowledge of the cast to punish. Instant Dive kicks are important for wake up pressure. 1, dp2 is crucial for punishing -10 thru -13 frame moves. I could say more but we all know how you feel about the character. Lol
Yeah, I hate how people don´t realize that her and Akuma are hard at all. But whatever mishima/bryan fanboys don´t really get it.
Replying to an old-ass video but, Steve is extremly situational.. you can rush but at the same time you have to switch to defense simultaniously. THE hardest character in the game IMO..
Harder than Jin?
@@yorenton Yes, even him.. with Jin you can atleast launch punish correctly.. Steve cant.. and even when you get to launch your opponent, the juggle damage wil be laughable..

Who would’ve thought a character that only punches in Tekken would be so difficult to learn? 🤔
Where is all this great music coming from?!? I can’t find it at all. BTW huge fan been loving all the content for so long!!!!
Thanks, man.
The fact that steves d21 high crushes is one of the dumbest things on any character ever. Dude is still sooooo overpowered
There's absolutely nothing OP about him and crying for his d2/1 is stupid lmao
Lol don't tell me you never saw a high crush low in your life
Steve is difficult to use?
I thought I was getting the hang of him pretty easily. Good thing I know before going online.
he is so "hard" i practically won matches without even knowing his combos or moves...
@@saporob He's extremely hard.
@@moze8095 Yep. Always loved playing both a lot since TTT2
I get why he's hard I just wanna know why everyone puts him at the top of the tier list. I want a video on why steve is so good
A very good Steve player will no how to open most characters up easily and his damage is really high. VERY PRESSURE!
You can watch my videos or Fighters Generation's channel that has many Steve's highlights play.
Based on my experiences:
1. Big combos damage with his quick rage drive and rage art
2. Best CH character with his b+1 Although almost all his movesets are having counter properties
3. Best rushdown-pressure-poke character if you like aggresive all-out attack play
4. Dodge. You can get perfect easily if you can read opponent's playstyle, dodge and launch their strings
5. No need for kbd or sidewalk/sidestep, you can focus attacking while dodging or blocking opponen't strings
6. Almost all his moves have shortest recovery frames compares to others, so you can presure play safely
7. Best wall carry and damage
8. Best for baiting opponent and fun to play
He can be very unpredictable with his large skill set.

When we gonna see TheMainBaby?
Nothing is more awkward than a Steve player turtling, like they are setting themselves up for failure lol.
steve is the hardest by far!

I dont cate if steve is really difficult. What made want to play him is because of how satisfying it is to play him especially everytime i hit b+1 i orgasm

Memorization and Execution. Its overwhelming to learn him but hes one of the most fun characters to play. Everybody can play and mash buttons with him but only a rare percentage can pull out a full combo or avoid mashing punches in a round.
I play Steve, Lucky Chloe and Gigas and it is a night and day difference in their aggressive game, Steve deserves the title of being hard to master. Super great character, incredibly satisfying to use.
