    Hey Jack, if you have an Aldi's near you they usually have the sweetened condensed milk for around a dollar, and their milk is usually a good price too. If not, Walmart sells an off brand version of the sweetened condensed milk for less than $1.50. Have a great weekend!

  • @carolinehonse35

    Great idea! How long will it keep in the refrigerator if I decide to make a double batch? Probably at least as long as the expiration date of the milk, right?
    However, I'll be making mine with freshly prepared dried whole milk (Nido brand) which I love and will cost less than using freshmilk, plus I can also use it to make the condensed milk which makes the cost even less.
    Love, love, love your videos. Thanks.

    • @cookingwithjackshow

      It's hard to say. Mine is at a week old and good so far. Use organic for longer lasting. But I'm sure the condensed milk counteracts that so It's so hard to say.

    This is very helpful because I cannot find Amaretto (almond) creamer. I have everything to make it already so thank you for this. Also if you're a coffee drinker who has to rely on charities you usually get sweeten condensed milk and evaporated milk for free so it ends up being cheaper.

    Jack, prolly an odd question but do you know if you could make batches and freeze it? Sweeten condensed milk is used to make some homemade ice creams so it shouldn't alter. Maybe a good idea to pour into ice cube trays then store in zippy bags. A cube or two should be enough, and you could just sub out a couple of the ice cubes from your cold coffee...

    • @cookingwithjackshow

      Regular milk when it freezes separates but it's still good you just have to shake it every time you drink it. So if you do freeze it in a container you might have to shake it when it's defrosted. But your ice cube idea is genius and would avoid that whole separation thing. :D

  • @thacoolest13
    @thacoolest13 2 года назад +2

    Also worth noting that alot of the ingredients are reusable. The vanilla extract, and sure 2 cups of milk is a bit much but its not like you weren't buying milk anyways so that cost likely factors in with regular shopping. Really only the condensed milk is something you'd have to rebuy for a new batch every single time. Curious how that effects cost calculations... Guess it depends on how much you drink coffee

    Considering how many ingredients are in Torani (The flavoring recommended in the picture), I would say it's still got an ingredient list in the double digits. I would still prefer this cause I could get a gallon of milk for about $2 here, and the Condensed milk for about $0.50 per can. And I have a lot of pure vanilla extract, so I could make a few batches before replacing that.

  • @robbinnyohood

    But I'm sure you can multiply the recipe and make a load of other batches. Condensed milk isn't expensive and a gallon of milk should last a good amount of time and you're only using alittle but if vanilla. You'd probably have to by 3 name brands and you'll still be less then that amount of you made it yourself

    • @cookingwithjackshow
      @cookingwithjackshow  7 лет назад

      yes but I measured the 2 teaspoon cost. So I already broke down what each batch would cost. multiplying it will just multiply the cost.

    • @cookingwithjackshow
      @cookingwithjackshow  7 лет назад

      here is my calculations:
      milk $0.90 (two cups) organic 2% milk half gallon costs $3.59
      condensed milk $2.49 (used the whole thing)
      Vanilla Extract $1.50 (two teaspoons) 1oz container costs $4.48
      just cause you have extract on hand doesn't mean it's free. There still is a cost involved to the amount used.

    idk why you say it's twice as much as store bought? Gallon of milk is 2 to 3 dollars and you are only using 2 cups. Vanilla can be cheap. Get it for a buck and condensed milk for a buck also. You are going to be able to make this 3 or 4 times with the milk and vanilla just add $1 each time. I big jug of store bought is $5.00. So, for $8 you can make this 4 times.
