Summer of 75, I turned 18 lived in SoCal and that summer was all about surfing, the beach, drag racing, my girlfriend, back yard keggers, drive-in movies and great rock-n-roll. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
The summer of 1975 was literally laden with hits from the radio. I never got into trouble as a 13 year old back then. I was involved in many activities that made it a memorable time! Thanks again Fred!!
I remember this summer well! I was 13 and a family friend gave me my first job serving ice cream at a Dairy Queen. I only worked there in the mornings and the rest of the time I spent riding my bike across town with my friends, and always remembered to come home when the streetlights came on! Those were the days. Thanks Fred for taking me back to that time in my life!
July 75. I remember it well. I was a greeter/host at a Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour. Partied most Friday nights at a place called Frivolous Sal’s where lots of the music was the same stuff I heard all day working. Thanks for the Journey back Fred. 👍👍👍👍👍
I have a question for you...Which Farrell's did you work at? Was it the one in Woodland Hills, CA? And if it was, did you happen to work there in January of 1975? Please let me know, because I have a story for you!! 😱
I like the "we can experiment with anything" attitude with 70s films. No DEI or any such rules about what filmmakers "have" to do. Famous Monsters of FIlmland! I visited Forrest J. Ackerman at his Hollywood mansion. His collection of memorabilia was awesome. Love the look back, Fred.
July 1975… right out of high school, Camp counselor at Creative Day Camp in Yonkers NY…250 dollars for 8 weeks, where I met Jody❤️. Great Times! And if I wanted to see the Yankees play baseball, I had to go out to Shea Stadium in Flushing Queens, the home of the Mets, because the original stadium was being renovated. Please God, let me live July 75 one more time…
"Dr. Spock"???? smh Shel Dorf was one of the originators of the Detroit Triple Fan Fare, before he moved on to San Diego and set up what is now Comic Con. Man, I would have killed to be there in 1975. And for this video Fred, you get my undying affection for adding Sabotage to the video. I am a head banger of old and totally love that album by Black Sabbath. White Line Fever. I would have done anything to be with Kay Lenz, she was so pretty. You scored a hat trick with this one. Thanks as always Fred.
Sabotage is one of my top three favourite Sabbath albums, have you seen the Don Kirshner's Sabbath episode from '75 here on RUclips? Anyway, it's on here. Cheers!
Back when Disney made family entertainment with no political agenda. And back when you could advertise cigarettes but not lawyer or big pharma. Those were the days.
More cool stuff. You never cease to amaze, Fred. There used to be a Lum's restaurant in Norwell MA, near the intersection known as Queen Anne's Corner, but I never ate there. I think that chain went belly-up sometime in the 1980s.
Great job, Fred! 1:15 - Lums sponsorship here & having Milton Berle appear in its ads didn't save it. 6:55 - Will "Mr. Hooper" Lee showing his parental pride. 8:37 - More from the Vanderbilt News Archive. I'm glad the commercials were taped too. 9:53 - I'm glad I can feed my cat now with Sheba, 2 meals in 1 pack w/o having to scoop any out w/ a spoon.
A restaurant know for its beer-boiled hot dogs, sponsoring the Apollo-Soyuz space mission. How apropos. And, Thanks for the Hustler cover art, FredFlix! 😁
Ah - mid-summer 1975. I had to attend a summer football camp in hot, humid rural South Carolina and was absolutely miserable being away from home. I remember how happy I was when dad picked me up. On the way back home, I remember hearing the “Theme from The Rockford Files” and “Jive Talkin’” on Dad’s blue beetle car radio. However - I was even happier when I got home and got to my bedroom. There on my bed sitting on the pillow was a gift from dear Dad - a brand new copy of “The Origins of Marvel Comics” by Stan Lee. I was elated. I still have that copy that Dad signed to me. Bless you Dad - you are missed. And btw … love those Carl Barks duck books!
Loved White Line Fever. Slim Pickens got his just desserts in that one. Return To Macon County was not as good as Macon County Line. Had a little crush on a girl I met while on vacation that summer. I still wonder how she turned out and wonder where she lives now. Great summer that was.
About 10 years later, when I was in high school, they handed out Master combination locks for football lockers. My combination was 30-20-10 -- I kept that lock for years! Never tried to shoot it with a high-powered rifle, though.
All those bang, bash and crash car movies reminded me of the CB radio craze. If I remember correctly I think in '75 we were just at the cusp of the craze. It's with great fondness that I remember the C.W. McCall song "Convoy"! Great tune that I still like! In fact, I remember my older brother installing a CB radio in his car. I don't think he used it much; it was more of a novelty than anything else. But it was fun anyway! Thanks for the memories!😄
I turned 8 years old June 18, 1975. My mom had just divorced my dad while we were living in Benton Arkansas. In August 1975, me, mom and my brother Paul moved back home to Tyler Texas. Paul and I have been living in Tyler ever since.
I was little back then but your videos unlock so many Memories because I used to watch tv a lot I guess all kids my age did better times then now wow that's the secret they dont tell you you have to figure it by the time you do it to late lol thanks.
That is another great post. Loved the "news report" on the San Diego Comic-Con from 1975. I went to it for quite a few years then worked it as a Booth Bunny sometime later (when I was old enough to do so). Thanks again for all the memories.
Another great video Fred. The first issue I ever saw of 'Famous Monsters of Filmland' was the All Japanese Monsters issue in 1976. I was 11 years old. It was fate...lol
This is the year that comic conventions started to pick up speed, but at this point, it was mainly comic books and comic book creators and not celebrities and musicians like they do now
This is truly fantastic, like all of your content. I rarely comment but have been subbed since about 2017. As a side note, I can't believe this video is the first I've ever heard of the movies Return to Macon County AND White Line Fever?!?!? Apple Dumpling Gang, YES!
I was a 5 year old living the high life at mom and dads in 75. Playing with Hotwheels and riding bikes. Going to grandparents for Sunday dinner, riding on back of my cousins motorcycle (Mom was mad) and now wishing I could go back.
July '75? Two months into my 20th year of life, and four months into my first real relationship. Oh, and the Rolling Stones that month at the LA Forum. Life was good.
The original S.I. cover had Zonk giving the cameraman (and then-Dolphins owner Joe Robbie) THE FLYING FINGER OF FATE(the middle finger for those who didn't get the Laugh-In reference). Zonk was made to do it over(this is what made most newsstands. HOWEVER...a few of the original covers got out to the public. They're,now, considered a collector's item).
Star Trekkies and Dr. Spock??? I can't believe that reporter didn't Grok Spock. I remember staying up late to watch the coverage of Apollo-Soyuz. It was a highlight of that summer. Hard to believe these events happened nearly 49 years ago.
I didn't go to Comic Con till the early 80s - 75 was a bit early for me - and not much had changed from the footage seen here. At some point in the 90s, it all became a Very Big Deal and it went to the large downtown convention center, rather than the "mini" one in the suburban area, as here.
You bring back some great memories and I'm grateful for you Fred. Can we bring back a real journalist like Walter Cronkite? I doubt it these days. In July 75 I would have been 14. Jaws was only the second movie I was allowed to go to twice ( My parents paid) The other coincidently was also a shark movie.....Blue Water white death. Thanks!
1:54, Being from Miami origionally, I loved Lum's restaurants. They're long gone and I don't know anyone else where I live now who heard of Lum's. They're fried shrimp was my favorite as a kid in the 1970s.
I miss the America that I grew up in.

Covina High Class of 1980...I'd JOIN YOU in going back !!

Summer of '75!! One of my favorites!
Cute! A young Valerie Bertinelli in the Wyler's commercial right around the beginning of One Day at a Time!
We were FORTUNATE to have experienced those days! Now it's Paradise lost, unfortunately.

Loved Morris the cat!
Looking back it was a great year. Just graduated High School and had my whole life in front of me.
1975. Graduated high school in June, turned 18 in November. "High and alive in '75" was our motto. Was a good year
👍 Same year for me too. Our motto was “you ain’t seen nothin yet”!! Great time to be alive! ✌️🇺🇸
Gee I miss Glen Campbell... and Walter Cronkite! What a great show, thanks Fred! 🎉😊

Doc Severinsen, still going strong at 96.

I have never, until this moment, heard of Lums before.
I'm from Miami, FLA origionally and I loved their fried shrimp. I'm pretty sure they were east coast only.
The Lums I went to in 1975 was in Massachusetts.
They had one in Midland Michigan but their claim to fame was hot dogs steamed in beer.
Started in Florida
Me neither.
It was a VERY good year. My first ✌️ love ✌️....got my drivers license... music was great...damn good year.👍
