    Also guys, keep in mind, you don't NEED to go to this extent to run DCS, I obvs have a channel and I have to take things to a certain standard to provide decent content so I find myself going for the best stuff available. You don't need to sink this amount of money into DCS to get a good experience out of it.

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  4 года назад +20

      @@futrell8643 you'll need a good computer, thats gonna be the bulk, and then you buy trackir when I got it it was like 120$ and then a simple 50-70$ stick and throttle, and then a module in DCS you want to learn, example hornet is like 80$. so like 300$ should get the ball rolling if you have a decent computer already.

    It's definitely true, so far, that its just too easy to lose a bandit dog fighting with VR. It happens for me all the time. I look away from the target for a second, look back and I've lost him. Compared to a 4K monitor, theres just no comparison, so I have both. Carrier operations and CAS, VR all day, dog fighting or online, TrackIR.

      Im just getting started and I have both vr and track ir and I prefer vr over trackir any day. I feel like in trackir its a lot easier and more intuitive to look around. Also it feels a lot easier to just understand what your aircraft is doing. Like if its upside down sidesways or whatever else. On the monitor it feels alot more difficult for me. I have the reverb g2 and a 4k monitor and they both look the same interms of clarity

    Great setup, thanks for the tips! For those on a tight budget, the affordable Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS has a kind of soft, micro-joystick on the throttle (I call it the clitoris, but that's just me!), just under your left thumb. It's actually a mouse, i.e. it allows you to control the pointer. So if you map that to the rotation of the camera, you can use it as a built-in TrackIR of sorts.
    Clearly, it's nowhere near as good as a real TrackIR, but it's already there on the HOTAS, and it's way better than nothing.

    Nice setup. I see a lot of simmers now, doing it as desk work. When I first fot into IL-2 ( the original series) there was a modular/packable cockpit called the "ABC" SIMPIT... ( Aker Barnes cockpit) it's cheap, do at home, and is loosely modeled after the F-16 cockpit. May be a little old school today, but I enjoyed it immensely. I plan on making another one again. Figured I'd share. You can still get plans for free, from thier website.

    • @zentriceggofficial
      @zentriceggofficial 4 года назад

      @@shadowguardian3612 yes but CPU single core does the left and right image calculation for VR and that is a massive bottleneck. Nvidia GPUs have vr acceleration to do this... single pass stereo. It's not something that happens just because the GPU draws the image. That's not the same at all. Single pass stereo is specifically to make VR rendering faster and it's something that has to be coded into the game.

    i dont understand the need to have trackir unless you have to look around in a very dense cockpit with a big frame like the f-14b in formation flying, other than that i just use my mouse and the two side buttons to control throttle, works pretty awesomely for me to say the least.

    Please go with the Oculus Rift S when you plan to get VR. It's 2160x1440 resolution display and it's amazing in DCS especially in the Viper's Bubble Canopy

    I definitely prefer the VR experience, but I find the fatigue really limits how much you can play with it.

    • @JonasRosenven
      @JonasRosenven 4 года назад

      How long have you been using VR? In the beginning I would start feeling a little dizzy after 15 minutes. After a year using it I felt no fatigue at all. Even after sim racing for 6 or 7 hours.

      @@JonasRosenven Going on two years. Dizziness isn't a problem anymore, I just can't deal with having a screen pressed against my face.

    Awsome video partner. Yea those clicks on TacView where pretty annoying so the silent mouse is good shit. I know this problem, i use a great microphone myself so. Yea other than that the Warthog stick cost about 700 dollars in Iceland, including the throttle so there you got that. Awsome video man, great to see your set up. Thank you.

    Do you think a screen size is critical for TrackIR and flying in general? E.g. if I have a 17 inch gaming laptop, will working with TrackIR be as convenient as with the 27 inch one? I'm currently playing with head tracking via Web cam. It works decently if the sensitivity is reduced. But I feel that I don't naturally need to turn my head so much, I can see all the screen from standard position. Is it something you also have with larger screens or is it more natural with them?

    Quite surprised how you don't have any form of VR even if it was "just" an oculus rift s, i will never go back to flat screen except for learning and assigning controls. You already have everything you need, the rig, the accessories that make VR so good. You could probably even push a Reverb, it's just not the same vs flat. Even though you mention it, did you actually play in VR before dismissing it ? The spatial awareness cannot be simulated with trackIR, not a chance.
    Spotting is definitely an issue, but we're having options with almost no screendoor (reverb), plus you can zoom in VR if necessary.

    • @GrowlingSidewinder

      Darkgalahad yes I've tried VR I'm srsly considering getting back into it only for the immersion. I 100% agree it can not be matched by a flat monitor. I'm just waiting for the resolutions to go up a bit more before I play only VR.

    • @Darkgalahad
      @Darkgalahad 4 года назад

      @@GrowlingSidewinder Just to be absolutely sure, did you play with the reverb ? You can skip the oculus and oculus S completely, currently with your rig you have the perfect setup to just utilize the insane resolution of a reverb (NO discernible screendoor effect anymore), IF you don't care for roomscale since the controllers are complete trash ( i personally don't care for it and own all 3 rift versions). Plus the price is now affordable here (about 600$)

    If your Track IR setup isn't wireless, consider the Lukas Clip. Velcro-ed in place on a Wireless Headset, the Lukas Clip is rechargeable, and lightweight as well. The Track IR sensor captures the head movement and is set up in the TIR software as a Track Clip Pro.

    • @Mike_Romeo
      @Mike_Romeo 3 года назад +1

      Depends. VR will put you in a other dimension but its quite expensiv and you will ne a very strong pc to get the most out of it. The HP reverb G2 is the best headset for dcs currently. Headtracking is way more cheaper and you dont need a strong pc to enjoy it. Also its easier to use because you dont have to look in all direction like you would do with a Vr headset. Btw I dont recommend you TrackIr, its to overpriced. Get the DelanClip instead or build yourself a IR headtracker. There are plenty of do it yourself headtracker tutorials on RUclips. I for example made my own headtracker for like 20$
