  • UCSF celebrated the groundbreaking for a medical center to serve women, children and cancer patients at Mission Bay in October 2010, signifying a major turning point in the history of UCSF.
UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital hosted an official groundbreaking ceremony and luncheon on Oct. 26 and a community celebration on Oct. 27 to thank everyone who has helped with the project so far. When UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay is completed in 2014, the 289-bed hospital complex will set a new standard for patient- and family-centered health care, safety, sustainability and translational medicine. The close proximity of the hospital complex to UCSF's biomedical research campus at Mission Bay will speed the application of laboratory discoveries to the treatment of patients in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Why is there so much advertising for UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital? I see these ads all over San Francisco on MUNI busses, BART stations, billboards, lamp posts TV and radio. Who's paying for it?
