@killkiss_son A friend of mine who was a former MECA SQ judge and SQ competitor upgraded the system in his girlfriends Tesla Model 3 with a similar basic DSP/multichannel amplifier combo and a similar tier of speakers. Wow this is legit! Wish this was around 6 years ago lol. Back then I pieced together my upgrade to the model 3 with a lot of research on the model 3 forums. 😅
As of now, we do not recommend this for the 23-24 models but we are working on some new harnesses that will allow it to work more seamlessly with those years.
For anyone who thinks the PRICE of this Alpine Plug & Play system for TESLA is Too Expensive, and/or that it will not be a Significant Upgrade from the OEM system, you are simply wrong. Car stereo shop labor is a minimum of $100+/Hour. IF a shop had to create all of those custom wiring harnesses from scratch, just the included Plug & Play Wiring Harnesses ALONE would probably cost you about $1000! ...Figure ~$200+ in raw materials with wire, proprietary connectors/plugs, fuse holders, distribution block, wire loom/Tesa tape, etcetera, PLUS the time in LABOR to put it all together with PERFECT Lengths, so that they or you don't need to cut a single OEM wire or harness in your vehicle! THEN YOU GET: A DSP/Amplifier to power up to TWELVE Speakers AND A Subwoofer in One Compact Unit that is ALREADY TUNED for the specific vehicle... How much would a Separate 13-Channel DSP Cost??? PLUS the Cost for 12 AMPLIFIER Channels using separate Amplifiers for the Main Speakers AND a Monoblock Subwoofer Amp. $$$? FYI most shops with qualified installers that can actually perform a legit acoustic mic measurement and DSP system setup + "TUNING" Session charge around $500-$600+. It's ALREADY done for you with this system!!! THEN you get TWELVE Blue Carbon-Fiber Speakers with Neodymium magnets that are Plug & Play...NO Custom Adapters need to be fabricated AND No Holes or Metal needs to be CUT. Even the Alpine R-Series Pro speakers don't have these features, and to install other speakers you'd have to either purchase Speaker Adapters or have Custom Speaker Adapters fabricated for up to TWELVE Speakers...$$$. THEN you ALSO get an Alpine 10" Blue Carbon-Fiber Cone SUBWOOFER. $$$??? THEN you ALSO get a CUSTOM Plug & Play SUBWOOFER ENCLOSURE that you know is Perfectly Tuned for this Specific Subwoofer, instead of some random shop getting it wrong after charging you an Arm & A Leg! To have a shop custom fabricate such an enclosure that would fit in this OEM location with No Modifications AND retain all of your original Cargo Space would be $$$$! SO, if you tried to have a shop install an Equivalent System from scratch using all Separate Component Speakers, a 13-Channel DSP, multiple Amplifiers, a Subwoofer + Custom Enclosure, with CLEAN WIRING that doesn't require ANY cutting/splicing, AND have it PERFECTLY TUNED, you are easily looking at $5k-$8k+ to do the same thing! AND the shop might hack up your wiring and potentially burn down your car, or cut & permanently modify and damage trim panels in your vehicle that would have to be replaced to return it back to stock. And/or they will probably drill & screw into the car where they shouldn't be, causing permanent damage, rust/corrosion, or safety issues. GOOD LUCK trying to have an EQUIVALENT SYSTEM installed via "piecemeal" with other gear for This Price AND Without doing any Permanent Modifications or damage to the vehicle, and without cutting a single OEM wire or harness!
Are you all going to sell the amp and subwoofer separately? I wouldn’t mind adding amp and Sub but I already have door speakers. I also agree with others that the price is high.
@@AlpineTV Only as a system? So once the warranty is up and an item dies the customer is just f**ked? Got to buy a whole new system since a tweeter stopped working.
The issue with selling this Alpine amp and subwoofer separately is that this amplifier includes DSP that is Specifically Tuned and adjusted for these specific Alpine speakers. If you were to use this DSP/Amplifier with your own completely different door speakers, the DSP settings will be completely wrong and it could sound even worse than OEM. And honestly, IF you were to ask a REPUTABLE car audio shop to install this same amount of speakers and level/tier of equipment while also not altering or cutting ANY of the OEM wiring harnesses or making ANY physical changes to the OEM vehicle (drilling new holes, inserting new screws, etc.), it would be AT LEAST as expensive and probably more. Car audio shop labor is currently a minimum of $100/hour for any shop that you could trust with your Tesla (or any vehicle). Just to create all of the many separate Plug & Play Wiring Harnesses that are included in this Alpine system from scratch would be $$$!
First day's done. All speakers installed. Some uncertainty about whether or not my 22' SR Model3 door tweeters should be installed on the factory cables or on the provided aftermarket cable? (comes with only 1?) I'm going with factory cables, will test to be sure they work after the install. Wording in the manual was unclear as to whether or not you should use the center channel tweeter aftermarket cable or use your factory cable. I turned it on and it works on aftermarket so made that connection. (unsure about factory cable) Other than that, my only other gripe is with the SUB BOX. Factory screws no longer fit because the box connection points are too thick for them. (or maybe its my sound deadening messing it all up) I'll get some hardware from lowes. Up next (tomorrow) is to run all the wiring, and plug in the amps/dsp/sub and let 'er rip. Compared to Focal Inside, the Alpine speakers don't sound as good without dsp/amp/sub installed, hoping for the best result when that's connected in place. Will try and update this.
@@cooluser23 Ugh I wish Focal made a kit with a sub... Now I have to figure out a way to get a line level signal that plays at least 20-20khz without tapping into speakers by myself etc
Nice to see ICE manufacturers making bespoke systems for modern cars. I am an Alpine fan and in the old DIY days it was a job to upgrade and connect up. One point I may add to the video is to keep a small container to put all the removed pins and snaps in so as not to loose them in the process, the camera could zoom in better and use some light to make the viewers get a better look as what is being done. This job was made easier by utilising the existing connector speaker wires which I presume are also weak whereas I have always been upgrading all wires, so all in this upgrade is a mild upgrde with better speakers but using the old weak wiring but given the vehicle type I suppose you dont want to disturb much. All in a good system upgrade.
That Alpine EV OEM T3 kit is only available as an Australia product right now from the looks of it. That is the same amp/dsp and subwoofer though as this system. As for the Model 3 install, most of the speakers, wiring, and sub location are the same or very similar as the Y. There's definitely some differences but you could likely follow about 90% of this video to do the Model 3 as well.
Does the Amplifier actually come pre-tuned and DSP configured? I'm really not sure, it doesn't sound THAT great to be honest. The Bass is WAY over the top, and bleeds into the midrange a ton. I think mine didn't come pre-tuned...

I you have a problem related to your sound system yes, but if the front headlights don't work that's not related to the modifications so it's covered by warranty. Obviously if when you plug back the OEM sound system it doesn't work anymore that's on you. Otherwise you can just wait till your warranty expires and then install the kit, like that you have no regrets (drive train warranty is different than the rest of the car, drivetrain is 8 years I think, the rest of the car is less)
Alpine made the speakers that come preinstalled in the 3 and the Y and they sound fantastic imo. What exactly is the difference between these speakers and DSP and the factory installed system?
@@AlpineTV Huh, the guy at the Tesla dealer told me they did. If you guys have a frequency response graph or other data on the performance that would be very helpful. I've been trying to find a place in the SF Bay Area where I can get a demo of the Alpine system and haven't had any luck.
I wish you would do it on the model 3 rwd. I don't have rear speakers and I don't have to subwoofer so I wanted to see a professional doing it so I know that it would work on my car.
I have the same car as you and I installed it in my car. It’s a really nice upgrade, the speakers up on the A pillars by your head and the small black triangle speakers near the mirrors are inactive on the RWD 3 and this kit activates those, adds the sub in the back and all the midrange speakers are plug and play with massive magnets really giving you rich sound. 10/10 would recommend but remember to factor in installation costs if you can’t do it yourself.
A pretty good chunk of the installation process is the same on the Model 3 as the Model Y. Its definitely a bit different in some areas but you could generally use this video as a guide to do the Model 3 as well if you are using it in combination with the install manual.
So how does this compare to the premium audio sold in Teslas? Is it just an upgrade for the base system, or does it blow the premium out of the water too?
This will be a significant upgrade on the premium factory Tesla system in just about every way (staging, clarity, range, bass, etc) and an even bigger upgrade over the base sound system.
These systems include a tweeter for the dash but unfortunately not all of the Tesla's have a spot for it. In this specific install it did not have that center tweeter spot up on the dash.
I was only looking into a possible speaker upgrade using the existing power and wiring. I don't need anything this elaborate. According to Crutchfield this is possible.
Yeah I paid a lot for the alpine aftermarket upgrade for my jeep that was designed for it, but this is more than double that. And while I get its more speakers, that is a crazy amount, the factory system is pretty great, hard to justify 3k as I am not sure the upgrade will be that much better. But if you have the money and dont mind spending it I am sure you will like it.
On some models this system will actually activate those speakers as they aren't active in all models. That being said, we do not have a replacement speaker for those locations in these systems. Its simply just going to activate the oem ones.
How is this installed in the Model 3 avoiding in-rush current? The typical solution is a resistor + big relay. This looks wired directly from DC/DC to the amp. If this amp is like most normal amps, i would not be surprised if the owner ends up stranded with an error when it detects in rush current. BTW, my model 3 SR has an alpine amp in it. Solid stuff, but i would not run this without caring for all the variables.
I believe the accessory wire is what prevents this, I installed this on my Model 3 about 10 days ago and no error messages. That accessory wire is what tells the amp to sleep when you walk away from the car and turns back on when you get back in
@@jacobora That does nothing to prevent in rush current. The dc/dc will entirely shut down when the car sleeps, and when it turns back on it can cause in rush. this is the same as unhooking and rehooking a battery on an ICE vehicle. The capacitors have to recharge since they are depleted.
@@th3suffering I’m not sure what Alpine has done to the amp to prevent this but all has been working great so far. Will the pss-tsla-22y work with the 2023 Model Y? I recently purchased the unit and while checking wiring harness connection at the front amp, I noticed the pin connectors in the unit do not match the ones from the amp. Is this normal?

@@Kurtis922 yes, I installed it in my 23 Model 3 in April. This was a question I had prior to purchasing the kit, makes a great difference having those highs from the tweeters and the lows from the sub.

I have a model Y and B&W sound system at home and the quality is very similar.
if the DSP amplifier run all the new speakers and new sub, why did you plug back the factory amplifier? it wouldn't be better just to remove the old amplifier and place the DSP in the same location to keep everything looking factory hidden and maximizing space by not placing anything in the trunk cargo area?
The wiring harnesses are vehicle specific. My car didn’t have the rear amp either, the wiring harness I received for my Model 3 worked perfectly. You will have 2 extra connections that you will just tuck away and leave alone because those are for the rear deck shelf speakers which are not there in your car. Install is easy just takes some patience and time. Make sure to keep the wiring harness away from the 12v or 16v wiring that you will see running from the front of the car to under the back seats (Penthouse). That red tubing holds wiring for the small battery and big battery to communicate/feed. If the wiring harness touches or comes to close to it you will hear noise coming through all the speakers. Yes the factory Tesla premium audio systems are decent oem systems, BUT this will still be a significant upgrade over that system in just about every way.
Weird to insult the ultra efficient factory 8" for your far less efficient 6 1/2' midrange. The factory speakers are cheap and made of paper, but they are ultra efficient. I'm guessing the factory 8" has better mid-bass than the Alpine aftermarket that requires much more power. Mid-bass is always the hardest frequency range to achieve. I cannot imagine replacing even a stock 8" for a 6 1/2. Tesla should be commended for using 8s in the front doors.
@@GuvNick1 The factory amp no longer powers ANY of the Speakers nor the Subwoofer, but it must remain connected so that the Tesla ECU does not produce any Error Codes or faults in the system.
Well let me help you a little I have talked to a local tesla shop they said the only difference is the added speakers fitment has not changed and the movement of subs to the deck with 2 subs instead of 1 ad 2 amps as you know tesla service people always try to discourage the replacement of thier speakers or alternative

Its really not scary we promise. We skipped over it a bit because there isnt really just one place in the Model Y to mount it. There are several options for mounting in your preferred location. Otherwise its simply just screw it in and plug in the connections.
Just as a side note, in the Model 3 it includes brackets and it only mounts in one specific spot in the trunk. The Model Y is more open to how you want to mount it in your install. The guys vehicle we used for the install specifically wanted the amp where we mounted it in the video.
@@AlpineTV I read the installation manual and it seems it is really more complicated thant just plug a cable. The problem isn't the location of the amp but all the cable you have to install. Transfer the disconnected connectors into the open ends of the Alpine Harness." "Route the harness to the trunk of the vehicle, remove the seat cushion and trim panel pictured. Wow this is legit! Wish this was around 6 years ago lol. Back then I pieced together my upgrade to the model 3 with a lot of research on the model 3 forums. 😅
I’m wondering how different this upgrade is to the premium system that comes on the higher level models by default.
This would be an awesome add-on at the show room
It's awesome but we need a new video for the 2024 model since there are some significant changes
As of now, we do not recommend this for the 23-24 models but we are working on some new harnesses that will allow it to work more seamlessly with those years.
The nylon strap on the door tweeter is essential for crash injury prevention !!!
How so?
@@coooooool12342doesn’t fly and hit your head in a crash event
THEN YOU GET:
A DSP/Amplifier to power up to TWELVE Speakers AND A Subwoofer in One Compact Unit that is ALREADY TUNED for the specific vehicle...
When are you guys coming up with the sound upgrade for new Tesla Model 3 Highland? Alpine can use my car for the demonstration
Why? The sound is gorgeous from the factory. But your explanations are perfect. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
@@AlpineTV need one for a 24 Y LR RWD, only has 7 speakers no sub.
Are you all going to sell the amp and subwoofer separately? I wouldn’t mind adding amp and Sub but I already have door speakers. I also agree with others that the price is high.
Thanks for the feedback, but as of right now this is only be sold as a full system.
I'm looking for Amp n sub only as well. Hopefully it'll happen.
I'm uninstalling my Focal Inside setup and putting this in my model 3 tomorrow when it arrives... wish me luck..
Focal better than alpine
@@phenomfacemob1011 sub/dsp/amp is more worth the price though - I liked the Focal's but ~$3,000 just for speakers that aren't tuned by dsp is wild
That's a step down. Focal is better than Alpine.
Great, another thing I want now
A worthy product and video👏👏
That song at the end really.... slaps.
Way to go Alpine! I hope you create this for a Model S.
Any information on the more affordable Alpine EV OEM T3 kit you have and perhaps an install video for the model 3?
That Alpine EV OEM T3 kit is only available as an Australia product right now from the looks of it. That is the same amp/dsp and subwoofer though as this system. As for the Model 3 install, most of the speakers, wiring, and sub location are the same or very similar as the Y. There's definitely some differences but you could likely follow about 90% of this video to do the Model 3 as well.

Can I still install this if my 2024 Model Y doesn't already have premium sound?
If you have a model 3 without the sub and rear amp, is it just a dsp config change and omitting the rear harness, or is there more to it?
Can we view and adjust your tune in the DSP?
You ship to germany? Any official supplier in EU?

Nice comprehensive video, but it’s too dark, could have better lighting specially focused at the working areas.
Does the Amplifier actually come pre-tuned and DSP configured? I'm really not sure, it doesn't sound THAT great to be honest. The Bass is WAY over the top, and bleeds into the midrange a ton. I think mine didn't come pre-tuned...

Is this fits to Model 3 highland standard range?
No because there are additional speakers in the model 3 highland compared to the old 3/Y
Nice. Curious how good it sounds as thr factory system sounds awesome already.
Most people that have heard say it’s no better at all.
I recently bought a model y and needles to say not impressed with stock speakers .. I’m constantly looking for options I’ll wait a few more months before pulling the trigger

@@killkiss_son not sure but coming from my 2019 gas 450, maybe I think its because of the insulation/ or the door and build quality.. Ive since messed with the settings on my y and it's sounding better. I probably would need to add some deadening or some rubber trims in my doors to decrease road noise...
Does this void your warranty?
It does not by law. You can look it up.
Why no direct replacement 8" in the front doors instead of a 6.5". Seems like a great opportunity to have exceptional low mids in the front stage.
How much does this system impact the cars range?
I have a model 2023 model Y, the factory installed sound is awesome , I wound not change a thing in my Y
Definitely a solid system for an OEM system, BUT this will certainly be a significant step up from the factory system in staging, clarity, and bass.
Any timeline on speaker upgrade for model 3 2024 RWD for EU?
No timeline yet, but we are working on some additional options. Not sure about the EU launch timing though.
Curious to see how the 24 premium system holds up to this.

We are working to confirm fitment on the 24 models
Alpine made the speakers that come preinstalled in the 3 and the Y and they sound fantastic imo. What exactly is the difference between these speakers and DSP and the factory installed system?
Alpine does not make the factory Tesla systems. This system is still a significant upgrade over the oem system in the Model 3 and Model Y.

Model X plaid 2023 is also possible to install alpine pxe-x121-12ev? You provide harness as well?

Can you use the pre output 11 and 12 to add another amp?
So how does this compare to the premium audio sold in Teslas? Is it just an upgrade for the base system, or does it blow the premium out of the water too?
This will be a significant upgrade on the premium factory Tesla system in just about every way (staging, clarity, range, bass, etc) and an even bigger upgrade over the base sound system.
I have the unit for my Model y, I have one question how can I wire a 2 ohm subwoofer (using the factory sub harness) instead of using pre mounted sub?
Why didn't you put a coaxial in the center speaker? I imagine that they will get the full range on this car so it will render better high-notes.
These systems include a tweeter for the dash but unfortunately not all of the Tesla's have a spot for it. In this specific install it did not have that center tweeter spot up on the dash.
Wonder why Tsla doesn’t just offer their upgraded audio system as an option on base models. Seems extra to have to go through a third party.
can this be used on the 24 Model y with the speakers?
I was only looking into a possible speaker upgrade using the existing power and wiring. I don't need anything this elaborate. According to Crutchfield this is possible.

Yeah I paid a lot for the alpine aftermarket upgrade for my jeep that was designed for it, but this is more than double that. @@j3777 there are speakers there but they aren’t active with this new system. It has been tuned with the new speakers for best performance.
The capacitors have to recharge since they are depleted.

if the DSP amplifier run all the new speakers and new sub, why did you plug back the factory amplifier? it wouldn't be better just to remove the old amplifier and place the DSP in the same location to keep everything looking factory hidden and maximizing space by not placing anything in the trunk cargo area?
We are bypassing the factory amp but it has to remain plugged in to not cause any errors within the Tesla system.
Does this void any warranty?
If my car doesn't have the factory amp in the trunk how am I suppose to plug those cables into it?

The most interesting part of the installation : The amplifier/DSP installation isn't explained in this video. Why? Because it could be scary?
Its really not scary we promise. We skipped over it a bit because there isnt really just one place in the Model Y to mount it. There are several options for mounting in your preferred location. Otherwise its simply just screw it in and plug in the connections.
Just as a side note, in the Model 3 it includes brackets and it only mounts in one specific spot in the trunk. The Model Y is more open to how you want to mount it in your install. The guys vehicle we used for the install specifically wanted the amp where we mounted it in the video.
