    I always see this mistake on car audio upgrade videos:
    Just because the magnet on the stock speakers is smaller than that on the aftermarket units, it does not mean that the magnet is weaker. The stock speakers use a neodymium magnet, which is way stronger for its size than the ferrite magnet on the Alpine drivers. Neodymium magnets are used in car speakers because they have a lower weight compared to ferrite ones. Also, high performance subwoofers or tweeters typically use neodymium magnets because of their better performance.

    • @juliobello4561
      @juliobello4561 3 месяца назад

      True when I remove my stock speakers from my front doors and switch to aftermarket the doors got a lot more heavy which made my doors hang down little.
      There’s pros and cons I only wish more aftermarket would push neodymium

    I am amazed EVERY time I see you or others pop pieces of the car apart with a pry tool and there are no broken pop rivets to replace. Zero. Tesla has done an outstanding job with serviceability.

  • @sgstuff

    It looks like the Tesla speakers are using neodymium magnets. They are much smaller and lighter than ferrite magnets. Don’t judge speakers by magnet structure size alone.

    • @set_exodon
      @set_exodon Год назад +1

      I agreed with you. The original speakers are designed and engineered by Tesla and they are matched with the sound system and acoustic of the Tesla Y. My question, do they sound louder or cleaner?

    Specifications might have been nice Wattage? Frequency range of each component etc.. Also I think someone else here has mentioned Neo Magnets vs. Ferrite. There were no specifics not even any comparisons ie. You didn't play the music first via existing system to do a A > B comparison. There were no measurements. Are these speakers a tuned kit? Why are the rear door speakers not changed in this kit, does this make a difference? What is the comparable power consumption? We know this weights significantly more but does the system draw more power the same or less? It was helpful to see you fit it although wrong, why was the correction not filmed? ie. Did you listen to it at the end the right way around? How will the additional bass affect rear seat passengers? Will everything sound better if you fit an aftermarket sunblind? How is the sub sound affected if you have a rear parcel shelf installed? As Tesla does an awful lot in DSP what happens when Tesla makes upgrades to the Software thinking the existing speakers are in the car? So many questions especially when with shipping we are talking about + £ 1,000.00 UK GBP and we are not even upgrading the AMP in this arrangement. How is this any better than the Light Harmonics upgrade which is supplied showing less power draw than Tesla's own system and replaces 11 speakers for around the same kind of budget with and uses similar to Alpine cone technology and magnets. Just curious because as interesting as this was I came away with more questions than answers and even more questions after visiting hepa kings terrible website which had even less information, not real details and no obvious mentioned of the Sub in the package other than the 3D printed ring. This is harsh criticism but only because I reckon you could make the defacto all singing all dancing audio upgrade video on here giving all the answers. ;)

I installed a skar 300 watt 150rms for the trunk wow I mean wow I upgraded from light harmonic v1 and just wow for 45 bucks big upgrade the magnet on the dual Chanel speaker is pretty big and heavy. Jl audio 300x for front dash mid range

  • @DDB-np1jp
    @DDB-np1jp 6 месяцев назад +2

    Your new speakers are extremely heavy because they have ferrite magnets instead of neodymium magnets like the stock speakers from Tesla. You are sacrificing weight for better audio which it doesn't make sense considering there are plenty of other brands that offer the same carbon fiber cone speakers and have neodymium magnets. Those magnets are not only lighter but much stronger than the ferrite and they use way less energy which is another reason Tesla uses them. Just because they are small doesn't mean they are not powerful. I'm sure your new speakers sound amazing compared to the Tesla ones, but you can obtain the same or even better sound using different aftermarket speakers as I mentioned while saving on weight and power which should always be in your mind when upgrading a Tesla that is already heavier than a counterpart ICE vehicle and needs to save as much electricity as possible for better range and performance. Cheers

    Hmm... ok aside the tweeter thingy. What about a the amps? I did build once a decent car hifi with quality in mind and amps were as important as speakers. Larger speaker with larger coil and different impedance curve (4ohm is just one number - speakers have various impedance curves and they need to be 'driven' with enough current) So question is how long your stock amps will last with the new speakers :) (trust me I'd like to replace my speakers too in my M3 but I am not keen to scarify integrity of the system as a whole by replacing the amps too)

    Did you install a new amp? I have used full (speakers and amp) replacements on several of my cars. I have found that short of full speakers and amp replacement, you are better off replacing the amp. Factory speakers will sound a whole lot better with clean power to them.

    • @MisDirected2014
      @MisDirected2014 Год назад

      Replacing the amp with a more powerful one and keeping low wattage factory speakers doesn’t make any sense just like adding aftermarket speaker with higher wattage while keeping the same low wattage factory amp.

    • @crabkilla

      @@MisDirected2014 Of course it is best to junk the whole thing and start over. We can all agree to that. However, I did a test in a Honda of mine and put in an Alpine 5 channel amp and sub in it and kept the factory speakers. It was amazing how well it sounded. I have no doubt that the upgrade improves the sound. But, asking a Gen Z for an opinion on sound fidelity is comical. This is the generation of earbuds and Bluetooth speakers 🤮. They never experienced true analog fidelity and anything that sounds ‘good” is incredible to them.
