I have a 1952 M38. The only markings on the Jeep from the factory would the lettering on the hood - USA and the serial number. The TP 25 was added in the field as the dash data plates called for 28 PSI highway, which turned out to be too high, so the Army lowered it to 25 and marked each wheel well accordingly. The star and fuel caution were also added in the field. My markings are almost identical, with the exception that the fuel warning is different. Mine had been repainted a number of times by the Army, and each time they repainted the TP and fuel warning.

I could tell that alot of it was field painted, the only issue I'm running into now is getting all of the orange off. Hopefully I can save these!

My body, though solid, had enough rust that sandblasting and painting was a given. If you can get that orange off and keep enough of the last army paint job, that would look very cool. That bracket on the body above the reflector is the support for a MP50 antenna mount.

The fuel warning for an M38 should be 13 GPM. The fuel warning for an M38A1 would be 17 GPM (because of the larger fuel tank). Later manuals for marking of military vehicles did not include the M38 Jeep, so only the data for the M38A1 was included.

I like it. Lots of rubbing in your future. Casey's Custom channel used some wipe on matte clear designed for covering patina. I like it. !
You might try lacquer thinner and aerosol paint remover and wipe it right off quick.

I'm gonna have to look into that rub on stuff. Also I'm gonna have to use lacquer on alot of it for sure. I might end up repainting the letters too!
