  • Thrunton Wood provides wild views from the top of lofty crags in this inspiring corner of Northumberland
It is planted on and around two steep escarpments of sandstone - Thrunton Crag in the north, and Long Crag /Coe Crag to the south. These lofty crags provide spectacular viewpoints from which to admire the Northumbrian scenery.
Two exhilarating walks allow you to explore the miles of trails as they wind through the forest and across open moorland.
Mountain biking and horse riding are welcome in this wood.
However, Sadly, for now, there is only a relatively small area open to the public due to the ongoing cleanup from Storm Arwen over 2 years ago which hit the UK between 25 Nov 2021 - 29 Nov 2021 causing well over 1 million trees to fall in Northumberland alone.
Hopefully by Summer there will be more trails reopened to explore.
you can explore Thrunton Wood on two waymarked trails, both starting from the main car park. The Crag Top Walk (1 mile) is the shortest route, while the Castle Hill Walk (5 miles) is a more demanding route with a long ascent. Both routes will reward you with great views of the Cheviots from Thrunton Crags.
you can see how it looked from my video 2 years ago prior to the storm.

The very beginning of the video is the area at the start of this video which is now completely flattened! :(
I hope you enjoy this short wander. As always thank you so much for watching, don't forget to like and leave a comment (hopefully nice ones haha)
Take care my friends, until next time .........

Greetings from Canada Ray. 🍁 Watched your previous video first. You can’t help feeling sad when a forest is damaged or destroyed, whether by nature or man. Impossible not to think about all the animals that get displaced or even die. Your drone footage and camera work is second to none. The colours in these woods are so perfect they almost don’t look real. I’m especially struck by the yellow trees against a perfect blue sky. What a great place for a peaceful walk. Ty Ray! Appreciate you. Always a treat. Take care til next time. ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧🤗🌞😎

Hiya Jill 👋🤗 such a big change when I visited recently, I was quite astounded by all the devastation, so many trees lost in a matter of hours and as you say so many animals also lost or at the very least displaced. I do hope they replant soon so at least the animals get a new home and future generations can enjoy once more.
Your comments always give me happy feelings, I’m so glad you enjoy my videos ☺️🤗 The different colours at this time of year are always amazing aren’t they, nature is definitely something very special… hopefully we won’t end up destroying it all 🙏🏻 I hope you are keeping well and keeping safe. Until next time…. Thank you once again 🤗❤️☺️🥰

Hiya 😃👋 yes it’s a very quiet place especially when the whole area is open. Unfortunately it’s not possible to get to most places at the moment but I’m really hoping by summer everything will have been reopened. Thank you as always for popping in and watching, I hope you’re doing well and looking after yourself 🙏🏻🤗❤️🐈‍⬛

Hi Jaune, yes it totally changed the landscape but hopefully it will eventually be replanted for future generations to enjoy. I’m hoping the top routes will reopen again soon, some beautiful views up there. Thank you for popping in and taking time to leave a comment, much appreciated my friend 👍🏻🤗❤️
