I love this area, its such a peaceful, inspiring place.
Thankfully i arrived on a day which wasn't too wet underfoot.
The brown goats came to see me later, they must have thought with all those cameras and bags he must have some food haha :)
There is an inscription above the door of WP.BP.1602 TAM and the WP is believed to refer to William Potte who owned this land. The date of 1602 most likely refers to when the fortifications were complete with the house probably built a hundred years earlier.
In the summer of 1993 the bastle was re-roofed in order to safeguard the building with minimum disturbance to its original features. Conservation involved consolidation of the upper walls, extensive repointing of the stonework, erection of new roof timbers, and reslating using salvaged stone slabs. The work was grant aided by English Heritage.

👋😉Hiya Ray lovely walk about and views are beautiful. Older structures always fascinate me coz i ofter what it be like to live in them. The Monkey Puzzle tree was interesting to see for I've never see one of those before. Btw i love trees. Luckily your rains held off too. Ty for the insightful video 🥰😊 Unfortunately were experiencing a heat wave right now will be in the upper 90s too hot but when you mix in the humidity then its too much for me 🥵😉. Hopefully your doing well. 😊🤗❤️🐈‍⬛

Hellooooo 😃👋 yeah it’s a beautiful location, I think most of these buildings would have possibly been fairly cold and damp but they all had big fires lol. Many of course are still lived in but obviously have been updated a lot. Those trees have very stiff spikey leaves and believe me they are very sharp. There are a few at Belsay Hall near the castle. Weather is warming here a little but still intermittent showers. 90’s is too hot to do anything other than hide 🤣 so be careful in that heat. Doing ok here thanks, hopefully once the weather improves I’ll get further afield 😁🤗❤️🐈‍⬛

Greetings from Canada Ray. 🍁 Wow! Amazing footage! I took lots of screenshots on this one. Love the view @ 7:18 with the estate house nestled in this gorgeous countryside. What a great place for a walk. I’m jealous lol. This place is my idea of heaven, rich in both history and beauty. Love the monkey tree. And yes, nature really is one of life’s true gifts. Thanks Ray. I really appreciate being taken on these little adventures of yours. England will always have my heart, and your videos help soothe a bit of the ache and longing I feel for her. 🥹 Hope all is well and good with you my friend. Stay safe til next time. ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧🤗👋🌞

Hiya Jill 😃👋🤗 I’m so glad you enjoyed this, it really is a beautiful area, get saving for your visit lol. Imagine living in that big mansion pretty much in the heart of the countryside…. Get that lotto on 😂 my lotto excitement happens if I get two numbers 🤣🤣 just need the other 4 haha. This planet has some amazing places, I hope we don’t end up spoiling it all fighting over them when it’s so unnecessary😔 I wanted to get more drone footage but there was a guy cutting logs 🪵 who probably wouldn’t take too kindly to me flying near that big house lol. Those monkey puzzle trees are VERY sharp, no wonder monkeys are puzzled by them 🤣🤣
It’s always fantastic hearing from you, thank you once again for visiting which is always appreciated. Take care, be safe and look after yourself 🙏🏻🤗❤️🇬🇧🇨🇦

Hi Yvonne, there are hundreds of Bastle houses in the area but a lot are in private ground or attached to farms etc so not always possible to get to them but this one is in a beautiful spot. Glad you enjoyed the video , thank you 🙏🏻 🤗❤️
