Yes sir. I use Ultralight gear like that for panfish and trout. From 4’6 rods to 7’ Rods. Incredibly fun especially when you hook into a 10-15lbs carp while going for sunfish. LoL. Good video as usual lojo.
That "Walmart" ultralight is my favorite rod! I have caught some nice fish on it, and it is a blast! Ultralight fishing is the best.........also, the brand is Shakespeare (Stren is the line brand). Great Vid Lojo!
I fell in love with ultralight fishing too. I bought my first ultralight to trout fish and now use it to multi-species fish and have a blast doing it when the bass bite is tough.
I have a super light rod and spinning reel for stocked trout. They can be skittish and I use tiny hooks, too, like size 10. Some of our trout in Colorado are smart and avoid anything that looks a little different, so, small line, tiny hook is what works.
Ive had 3 of those rods in the past and let me say they are a blast. I used them for catching almost anything from little bluegill and crappie to big carp, catfish and even aligator gar.
Normmmmm ok buddy glade to see you back.sorry you didn't land one maybe next time.lojo I have a couple of those rods mostly use them for crappie and panfish or bait as we call it here in Arkansas. Awesome videos guys.can't blame you for not getting the cameras wet.
I use a 2000 brutal. Last king spinning rod and caught my first pb. 9.15lb on a 6lb line .. all about playing it and tiring it out .. love you flick .. keep it up
My 11 year old twins used those same combos for 4 years, we just upgraded them. They may be light duty but they held up just fine. I used to use an ultra light trigger spin for crappie but I haven't used it since we moved to Florida.
That's probably actually my favorite rod reel combo that I got from Walmart because it's so rediculous. I've caught everything from bluegill, to crappie, to rock bass, to small largemouth bass
"I love ultralight gear, caught some monsters with them over the years, just caught a 38 lb. Grass carp 3 weeks ago, took a hour and a half to land, caught it on a neg rig while bass fishing super fun"
the great misconception is they must be for small fish, everyone goes at least 1-1 when picking line weight. I usually use line that is 75% of expected heaviest possible fish I'll catch. even when not on ultra light gear. so if I expect a 8lb max I will pick up 6 lb line. if you look up records, specially the state ultra light records they usually are around the 3-1 or 4-1 ratios. 15-16lb fish on a 4 lb line. yes the fight is VERY long, but is amazing fun. most fishermen go 1-1 to just purely hog them in, but the lighter line can make the difference in them even biting or not.
Tried my first ultralight tonight, inherited a nice older Shimano combo with a lil 500 series reel. Threw a small mepps aglia with a bucktail, almost caught the legendary 4lb koi in my local lake 😅 kinda glad I didn't, I was scared the rod would explode
ultralights are for gills and crappie mainly but catching bigger fish on them is a blast but that you found out in this vid. love the vids keep it up also i have to say you are my favorite youtube fisherman.
Nice Bass! I always use ultra light tackle when wade fishing small creeks for trout...I have had some fun times with ultra light catching small mouth Bass!! Enjoyed
Lfg caught some good size kitties with a light rig so there's that plus funner is not a word it's more fun lol I use light rigs for small feeder or pan fish
I have that same rod/real combo and I love it. I use it for catching bluegill on beds. When they hit it hard I have had a nice size gill almost rip it out of my hand. Turned into one of my favorite rods I own.
I personally use mine for pan fish. it makes any fish feel huge. catching big blue gill on them are super fun. I use mine for catching live bait as well
100% love this combo 😂😂😂 I broke the reel and rod and just superglued them back together and its still my favorite rooster tail rod. Where I am its really hard to find bass over 4 pounds.
Ha. If you ever do we be going Biscayne Bay Fishing alllll the time. We got a lil center console Key Largo boat. Logo and/or Norm fishing with Penn reels???? Snapper and dolphin? Barracuda and Shark? That. Is. A. Video!!!! How bout it. Yall find the time. We going.
I have a rod similar to that that is a eagle claw. Super flexible and fun to use. I primarily used it for little stocked rainbow trout. It was fun to catch a million of them. This is a awesome challenge. Great video. All my rods are like this and I just moved to TN so I haven’t bass fished with them. And this gives me an idea
Glad I bought one of these little rods for my little dude after watching this video... I put some 10lb spider wire on there just in case. I was worried a little bit about how flexible it was but now I’m stoked to get him trained up on it...
Lojo I've been ultralight fishing for years I've always taken my trout poles with 4 pound test on it to The Ponds to catch bass you just have to know how to play them my PB on an ultra-light is a 10lb Mudcat that was an ultralight Diawa four and a half foot pole with 4 lb test mono
I bought that combo for my son and liked it so much I bought one for myself. My biggest bass was about 3.5 on this set up. They feel like a whale on that thing. The only thing I did differently was change out the line to 6 pound test spider wire. Great video man. Loved it.
Awesome video man! I’ve always used ultralight gear for panfish/crappie fishing! Put a small crappie jig on it and drop it straight down and jig it. It’s a blast to fight them on a set up like that.
I use ultralight stuff for zander and redfin perch, (sometimes even pike when I’m bored) my current rod is a 1-4gr lure rod with 4lb braid 0.04mm diameter
I caught a bass off that exact combo this morning. I bought it for fishing a small pond behind my apartment for bluegill and bass with feather light baits. It’s perfect for just quick trips and you can’t beat it for $20. My Walmart never has them anymore tho
Awesome vid guys! Used for bream, crappie, and any small panfish! Love fishing with the ultra light rigs just for the fun of the fight! Keep up the awesome work fella’s!
Man I have brought in 8 pound bass on these decent rods the reels are a little cheap so I bought the 7ft rod like this and put a Trion reel on it love it
Gotta do more ultra light vids, love ulta lights for pond hopping but I wouldn't use those super cheap combos for anything more than a backup or travel setup, 6' ultalights with good 6lb mono or 10-15lb braid and 1/16oz or 1/8oz jigs makes for a fun day
Fun to see one of your older videos, especially with Norm. Uncle LOJO slams it with the ultralight! I'd like to see you guys do an "encore" using the new MICRO TINY CRANKBAITS! Pretty please, that would be 🔥 !! "Set your new Ultralight Micro lure PB. 😁pure madness😉for sure!
I'm glad you and your life partner back together again you might want to pick up a new scale because everything you said was a three was actually a two and I'm glad Norm will go down for you anytime
Dudes, I bought one of the Shakespeare rods a few weeks ago. I use it to creek fish 🎣. Caught a 2 1/2 lb bass with it last night with a 2” grasshopper. Love it
These guys are supposed to be a fishing channel, and they act like they've never heard of ultralight gear. Then they talk down to it like its for little kids. The whole point of it is that it takes more skill. You have to use patience and finesse, not just stand there and then yank it in all ham fisted like. Why would ultralight be for kids? Just because they are kids, they are going to catch smaller fish?
You can use those for catching some smaller bait fish as well but it looks like to me you can catch some good sized ones on it to lol great video once again!!!
Bro ultra lights are the best. They never break, you feel everything, just throw 20 pound braid on n you can throw almost any weight lure and catch any size fish. I actively use ultralight setups for big carp and cats
I know this is an old video but up here in the PNW we use 7’ light and ultralight for trout and panfish. Before I got into salmon fishing in my teens all I owned was a 7’ UL with 10lb braid.
The 4'6" and 5' Shakespeare ultralights from Walmart are the GAS for panfish/crappie in creeks and little ponds, and hold up well even with things like a little ⅛-3/16 oz bitsy bug jig for little pond bass; just gotta give 'em a firm but slow sweeping hookset. 🤙 Walmart sells a chartreuse/silver Lew's ultralight with a pinch more backbone for itty bitty bass, but if you had to pick one I'd get the Shakespeare and strong-arm the dink bass 👍
I use these exact rod and reels when I'm crappie fishing off the bridge with a lantern dropped. They actually do really good. I've pulled up 10-14 inch crappie from the water up over the bridge.
Do any of you guys use ULTRALIGHT gear like this???
Who won the giveaway
I usually use it when I’m fishing for like bluegill size smallmouth in creeks. It’s fun.
Rebecca Collins... Congratulations btw!
I do.. Mostly for bait fish.. And trout fishing 🐟
Yes sir. I use Ultralight gear like that for panfish and trout. From 4’6 rods to 7’ Rods. Incredibly fun especially when you hook into a 10-15lbs carp while going for sunfish. LoL. Good video as usual lojo.
I use ultra light and micro light rods for trout and sunfish and crappie

That "Walmart" ultralight is my favorite rod! I have caught some nice fish on it, and it is a blast! Ultralight fishing is the best.........also, the brand is Shakespeare (Stren is the line brand). Great Vid Lojo!
Dude making fun of ultra light rods the whole time while wearing tipless gloves 🙄
😂 Also doesn't properly revive the fish
Their hooker gloves
Youve obviously never sunburned your hands get out and fish
@@kenaaronbabbit9987 never been a girl either haha
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For a challenge I use ultralight for bass and 4lbs test and use my skill and drag to land the fish. Take your time and and really make it a sport.
“I would buy this for my 8 year old son” I will continue to out fish people on ultra light rods with light test. Don’t sleep on it!
Same here I love ultra light fishing such a blast hooking 2-3 lb bass while crappie fishing
I fell in love with ultralight fishing too. I bought my first ultralight to trout fish and now use it to multi-species fish and have a blast doing it when the bass bite is tough.
I always outfish with ultra light......
Love using ultra light for panfishing. Big crappies or big bull bluegills can be challenging.
Blugills
Yup same here
you shouldnt disrespect the ultralight community
Facts fam 😑
Ultra light is pure fun
It’s also pure sport. It gives the fish a fighting chance. If it were up to me, that’s all everyone would be using.
@@SnazzyBeard right I love my ultra lights and 1000 sized reels 👍
River fish off a yak for crappie all the time 🤙
I have a super light rod and spinning reel for stocked trout. They can be skittish and I use tiny hooks, too, like size 10. Some of our trout in Colorado are smart and avoid anything that looks a little different, so, small line, tiny hook is what works.

I also use ultralights for trout.
same here in Vermont with stock rainbows
Same outfit for small creeks and beaver ponds
I love that you guys get to do what i used to back in highschool, mess around in walmart then go fish haha
:)
Ive had 3 of those rods in the past and let me say they are a blast. I used them for catching almost anything from little bluegill and crappie to big carp, catfish and even aligator gar.

I use a 2000 brutal. Last king spinning rod and caught my first pb. 9.15lb on a 6lb line .. all about playing it and tiring it out .. love you flick .. keep it up
LOJO those poles are for catching huge bass and pro fishing skills. 🎣
My 11 year old twins used those same combos for 4 years, we just upgraded them. They may be light duty but they held up just fine. I used to use an ultra light trigger spin for crappie but I haven't used it since we moved to Florida.
"What is this rod used for"
I don't know man I guess catchin fish lmao
Always good to see you and Norm fishing together
That's probably actually my favorite rod reel combo that I got from Walmart because it's so rediculous. I've caught everything from bluegill, to crappie, to rock bass, to small largemouth bass
It can even catch larger stuff like small largemouth, those guys really underestimate a true ultralight rod
How does this ultralight rod compare with the more expensive ones like the St Croix?
"I love ultralight gear, caught some monsters with them over the years, just caught a 38 lb. Grass carp 3 weeks ago, took a hour and a half to land, caught it on a neg rig while bass fishing super fun"
Cool!!
You inspired me to try fishing again. One skunk at a time

thanks so much

I freaking love Walmart tackle! Honestly it's the best bang for your buck!

rod reels are made for ice fishing or used for rivers
Can you do surf rods for bass fishing? That would be awsome.
