But you cannot trust the male to tell you the truth even when you do speak rationally to him. He may have no intention to move the relationship forward, but he doesn’t want to lose access, so he’s not gonna respond in an honorable manner to your rational talk. I spoke rationally to my ex husband for 5 years straight asking him if I should leave, and saying it’s fine that he doesn’t love me, for him to never openly admit he was treating me badly just to get me to leave. Maybe if you’re dealing with a woman, the rational talk will work, but in no way is a male gonna lose the benefits he gets from you by telling you the truth.
Men absolutely will tell you the truth if you do this. If your asking him if you should leave.., you’re still waiting for HIM to admit to being the bad guy in the situation… men (and just people don’t want to do that) asking vs saying… I’m leaving. I’m done. That’s a whole different scenario. He will either let you go (with hidden relief, OR transform into fighting for you and making any adjustment to make you stay. I’ve experienced both reactions.
