The "black man" you mentioned is a local legend in Birmingham, his name was Benjamin Zephaniah, a poet, writer, actor and musician. He was awarded a title called an O.B.E from the royal family, but he famously turned it down, as the 'E' stands for 'empire' and coming from Jamaican heritage, that word didn't sit well with him. He supported the same football team as me and I had the privilege of talking to him at a game once, he was a really cool guy. Sadly, he passed away 6 months ago. R.I.P.
I agree with the guy on the end right. Campbell is in fact similar to Criston Cole. They both don the façade of being moral, principled men, but are instead self-righteous (i.e. holier-than thou) hypocrites acting under the pretence of honourability.
What?! Cole may be an hypocrite in the way he goes about his honor and duty, but he's nowhere near as disgusting and messed up as Campbell, who is a groomer, rap*st, among other horrible things that Cole would not even dare.
Are these guys slow? The cop is a walking contradiction, he came to "clean" the city, called every cop corrupt and brought "honest" ones to bolster their ranks but ended up breaking all the rules and killing a fellow cop because she rejected him. If it wasn't for the guy on the right, this would be a comedy channel where bunch of guys sit and scream Ayo at every scene w no nuanced discussion whatsoever while displaying the most shallow and surface level understanding of everything.
I'm ngl I've never seen reactors try and defend Campbell before 😂😂😂😂 His character is literally for all intent and purposes a slimey pos that the audience *is not* supposed to like lmao Never a dull moment with RT TV I tell ya lmfao
Lmao, having watched their reactions for a few years I always felt that the two guys on the right are the only ones on this whole crew that seem like they understand whatever show they're watching. And the fact that they were all missing the point he was trying to make is just wild to me. He was stating pure facts.
Evan was the only smart one in the room. Hating on Grace for doing her damn job and she did it quite well. Calling her weird for falling in love with Tommy and going against her principles. As soon as her feelings for Tommy got stronger she immediately went to Campbell to resign and planned to leave. They are just upset that she got one over on Tommy who isn't some all seeing God. Tommy has flaws.
The reason why they don’t get it is because the writer of the show is an old-fashioned, UK leftist Labourer who isn’t afraid to add those views into his writing. Such as his pro-worker, anti-establishment views and that clashes with their general American view of the world regarding what is “right”. I also think that’s why they hate Freddie so much. It’s only a theory of course I could be projecting 🤷♂️
Evan was outnumbered here, but I'm with him. 100% feel Campbell is a holier than thou character - he believes he has a moral superiority to everyone else, which is how he justifies the immoral things he does. He believes the bad things he does are justified because he is doing them in pursuit of a higher 'moral' justice - the end justifies the means. He looks down upon the peaky blinders, communists etc. as lower forms of life that are not deserving of justice. He believes he has the right to decide who deserves justice and who has morals, and that the same judgements do not apply to him - making him hypocritical and holier than thou. This is the contradiction inherent in Campbell's character that makes him dislikeable - we sense he says one thing, but in reality is another.
Thomas on the other hand, does not claim to be a good. The Peaky Blinders are a criminal gang and do not pretend otherwise. Thomas has loyalty to family and those he cares about, but he is not judging others as being morally inferior to him. He values family and business, and he does what he needs to do to protect those two things. With Grace, it put those two things at odds (he loves Grace like family, but she threatens his business and by extension his actual family) - and this is his struggle. It is not easy for him precisely because it puts two things he values against each other, and his character is not contradictory about that. If his character was contradictory, he would have killed her straight away, or he would have forsaken his business/family and straight away left with Grace. He struggles because he values both and he does not easily undermine his principles.
Campbell had no struggle in using a sex worker and treating her roughly. No struggle letting armed gangs fight in the streets. No struggle comitting murder etc.etc. - all while claiming to be a god fearing man of justice. That's why he is holier than thou - he believes he is of such moral standing that even his injustices are just. His words and actions are contradictory, even as he feels no inner contradiction.

Prettyyyyyy sure a lot of real life notorious gangsters were family men and cared about the people they were close to. Doesn't negate them from being gangsters at the end of the day lmao Evan gotta learn how to hold his own not for nothing. Tommy having a soft spot for family and love for Grace doesn't make him a contradiction. It's a character flaw but not necessarily a contradiction. Him contradicting himself would be him only looking out for himself and *not* his family which we know isn't the case. Tommy being a family man has been presented throughout the entirety of the season 😂 Rob has a tendency to argue his point while also simultaneously proving the opposing point. Campbell is a contradiction because of the fact that he believes he's better than the criminals he's chasing when he's literally just as bad if not arguably worse especially because he's a member of law enforcement. His character isn't that hard to grasp lmaooo

The cop is definitely a weirdo and crazy, he asked grace to marry him and would try stuff with her and she didn't show interest in him at all. He was also good friends with her dad and knew her since she was a little kid, so he may have been trying to groom her and got in his feelings because he couldn't have her.
Evan is right imo. If she would’ve said yes to being married, he wouldn’t have done that. If that’s the only variable that could change the outcome then that’s the main reason for his actions.
And wtf are yall on about contradictions? If Tommy would parade around as this Stone Cold Callous person but was really soft on the inside then he would be a walking contradiction. But he doesn’t do that. In fact Tommy hardly talks for the sake of talking. He’s very fucking calculated with his words. He doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not. It’s stated by aunt Polly that he would laugh a lot before the war but that changed when he got back due to the hellish experience. Him getting involved with grace isn’t a betrayal of his character by any means. If you experienced something that traumatized and forced you to close up emotionally but at some point down the line you decide to let someone in, that’s normal. How yall see this as a contradiction of one’s character is wild. He’s by no means perfect in fact he has many flaws. I just think yall chose the wrong hill to die on with the discussion yall were having

@@monadreher2428 yeah the way they rationalized it was wild to me. Grace was tasked to get close with the Shelby’s, but as time went on she began to have feeling for Tommy. She went against her own emotions in order to fulfill her mission. ( which is something they were praising cambell for even though he did it in a terrible way). Upon cambells arrive to Birmingham he immediately scolded the police for having turned a blind eye to all the crimes of the peaky blinders. He was literally moralizing to them for not being by the book but by the end of the season Tommy catches him red handed😂 Mr by the book was spending time with a prostitute. All because the daughter of his dead long time friend doesn’t like him. he’s seen her grow up from a little girl to woman. That’s fucken weird and gross. But somehow he’s not as bad as grace because she “snitched” out Tommy? Like what

Us who know the future need to appreciate how well written and acted the “cop” is. The fact they can defend him so well is testament to that… but we know the future. 😂

Nahhhhh even without knowing the future it's made abundantly clear what type of person Campbell is atp in the series. He's a creep and a slimeball. Those attributes of his character only get *worse* in the future but they were definitely always there. Evan been on point about Campbell's character from jump. But yes absolutely cannot wait for future reactions.
Dope video 👍🏽. Also, that cop is easily a creep. His actions explained all of that. And he caught grace at the train station seeing she was leaving instead of staying with Tommy. Knowing that they both lost her at that point. Y’all were getting caught up in how shit was said instead of just what shit was. Dude on the right literally said “everyone has their contradictions”. Dude on the left repeated it a different way and they argued over it 😂
For the cop, he was true to his character. They mentioned that he was never a good policeman, and he tortured criminals in Belfast. That’s why he was hired to get the stolen guns, because of that hatred towards all criminals, including the IRA. That also explains the whore scene, because he thinks of whores as criminals. So he beat her.
He mentioned he loved Grace at the burial site of the guns, so the fact she loved a criminal instead, given his history as her father’s friend, is what drove him over the edge. The one type of person he hated took someone he loved.
Edit: This is just my opinion, and everyone is free to have their own thoughts.

Even when Rob isn't trolling he's the most annoying member by far. Dude will be so goddamn loud and wrong and you can't even have a back and forth with the dude
People can have their own opinions. Of course we disagree with him. But people can make up their own minds how they see a character, and that doesn’t make them wrong. If people don’t like Tommy, then that’s okay, same for Grace, or Polly, or Arthur. That’s what makes the show great, because it has complex characters and makes the audience think.
I like Rob. He annoyes me a lot, he doesn’t make sense a lot but sometimes, just sometimes, he comes out of nowhere and says something very sensible and logical and I find that weird dichotomy with him very entertaining. His volatile personality also forces the other guys to state their views, even when they don’t actually want to.
Tommy’s contradiction is that he breaks the law to do good. He pretends to be a criminal who’s heartless when everything he does is for the people around him

The cop is NOT a good person and makes highly illegal and strange ass moves. He's condratictory in the sense that he goes against everything he seems to stand for in the police force in order to get the job done through his crooked ambition. He's also psychotic because of his weird attraction to Grace and his spitefullness for her choosing Tommy over him.

Thomas Shelby’s character from the start has been stated and shown. Campbells was shown as a squeaky clean cop who then shoots a woman that turned him down.
