You have 5 kids, who will all eventually need their own homes. They may not all want to stay on the farm, but you may find several of your home sites may end up getting used!😊

Justin as a daughter thank you so much for allowing your daughter to help you and the boys. My dad only let us help with things when no other men could come by. My sister always wanted to help Daddy outside; she was too little but could have grown into things.
Also the fact that you strap Mr Brown to you and take home everywhere, just warms my heart. Hugs to you Rebecca and all the rest of the family ❤

Your kids are amazing! Jonah has a brilliant mind for farming, and after Jonah got hurt Josiah stepped up to the task! Lily is an amazing girl! Milking cows early on and taking care of chickens and sheep is so impressive. Mr Brown and his shoe issues makes me smile everyday. Henry has been on your back before he could walk, and the way all the kids take turns at caring for him and early on they all helped Rebekah. I’ve never seen kids so gung ho about family farming….. Jonah is only 15 and invents ways to fix things. The way you and Rebekah have raised your children is impressive!! The farm is all about family and education…. Awesome and impressive!

if the reward was easy, it wouldn't be a reward. it'd be a gift.
and many times, something that we earn is more special and meaningful than something we're given.
*this* has to be fought for."

I have SO enjoyed following along these 100 days, even when there was a lot of the same. Seeing the excitement and joy and RELATIONSHIPS throughout the process, even the mundane, is super encouraging. You once said you were going to pull down "old/existing " structures where you were clearing... .... a suggestion...
Since you will being running livestock over that area, keep the buildings, strengthen them, to make them sound.
These can store extra animal, fencing, battery chargers, tools and water spares, to save you running back and forth. Just a thought. Lorraine

I’ve loved watching your 100 days of building a homestead. I probably joined you guys at about day 15 or 20 and I’m so glad this came up on my for you page. I love being able to wake up and know that I can watch a video of you guys. I’m 12 years old and want to start doing things similar to you guys but my parents won’t even let me get chickens. I want to own a farm/homestead when I’m older but I just feel like it’s never gonna happen. We will see what comes into my life. Love you Justin, Rebecca, Jonah, Josiah, Lily, Gideon, Henry, and animals.

Hannah, Don't give up, When I was 15 my Father put a hold on my dreams. At the time I told him when I get 21 you can't stop me. I stayed mad at my Father for 6 years.
I left home the week before my 21 birthday & filled my dream & became a member of the AAGPL. I placed 2 years as the league disbanded in 1954 after 11 years.
Whatever your dreams are don't give up, remember only you can make them come true. Stay strong. Your parents' job is to help you choose the best road to follow in your young life. You have time on your side.

But im not putting it down at all i loved the videos and think they did a great job . If you wanna be successful, you must take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to making you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life

I can't recall you ever trying a ram pump in your quest for the everflow system.
The boys did great on the waterwheel, they should work on a ram pump to feed the property as the velocity/flow of water at the waterwheel site could probably work very well! With proper conditions it could lift up to 400 ft in elevation, they would love that with no need for electricity!
    Great job everyone!

You might try what we did...We drilled out the stump, lit it afire & used charcoal until we got a hot fire then kept it gong with used kitchen oil until the stump burned down. The roots burned for days.

Nook and cranny farming. I like that. We gaze in wonder at what we've chipped away at. Currently we're working on clearing trees for a goat pasture. Deciding on where fences can go, so many piles to burn. We've got the goats in a quarter acre close to the house but as soon as we can burn pulled stumps and brush we can fence the 2 acres further out. We've got a small kitchen garden close to the house, and up the hill we terraced and fenced a bigger garden, maybe 2/3s of an acre. Im struggling with the orchard, Ill be back at it planting more bare roots in february. We're really taking out minimal trees, as we love living in a forest.

Its so wonderful to hear the good news on the MRI! Equally wonderful to see soil and seeds coming out in anticipation of spring and the fast approaching garden season!! Nothing affects me quite so much as being forced inside for weeks on end by cold weather and the general bleakness of winter. Dreaming of the coming growing season and all its possibilities helps me muddle through the long weeks of winter weariness and keeps the gremlins of depression at bay. I am blessed with 9+ months of "growing season" where we live and i thank God for planting me here and not somewhere where winter lasts one day longer! LOL You are exactly right about depression and the FACT that things WILL GET BETTER. I'm excited to get started sowing seed and getting a head start on what we'll be growing this year and looking forward to the journey and the joy it brings to my life not to mention all the delicious nutritious food my little spot of earth will produce ... with God's blessing. ❤❤

You had one goal of specific things you wanted to complete within a specific timeframe. However at the end of your allotted time certain things didn’t get checked off your list. But many did. Going from siting for a new home is time consuming then ultimately deciding to remodel instead is a huge pivot. So many successes did take place. I agree the water was really a big score, especially as a future time saver doing chores. Access to roads is so key when making your way around and clearing a piece of land. But what stood out to me was the family working together and your strong desire to create memories and legacy on your family’s land. And you taught your children that the best laid plans many times will change. When we start projects or paths life happens, new ideas form as we learn more, priorities change, opportunities arise. Many things can affect the need to change direction. So regrouping causes us to pivot and adapt to those changes. I saw you and Rebecca teach your children one of life’s very important, but underrated, lesson of adaptability. They already had a good start, living on a farm. This will take them far in life. It’s so great to see you incorporate all the kids, not just the older boys, in different aspects of the project. Secretly,😉one of my favorites was to see Lily 🌸spring into action with the sawsall. Even Mr. Brown checking the water flow with you was so good as the problem got solved and making suggestions. The kids are thinking always how to fix, change, think outside the box and adapt because they know their ideas will always be heard and considered which is so important to them whether or not they were used. Those are huge memories and life lessons they will always have and cherish. I’m looking forward to watching the farm build progress and your remodel comes to life.
    I really enjoyed watching this.
    From CA🏖️take care.

Idea to take or leave.....While you can clear each of the kids an area. One every year. When they are ready to leave the nest they can start with there home. Until then use them for your learning school. People can rent and learn how to take care of a homestead with on hand training. This does many things: keep your grounds getting the attention needed until you're kids are ready to live in them.
You can have them work on your farm as part of the learning school, to help you but also to learn farm lessons. Just a thought...take it or leave it.❤️

Justin you automatically determine that parts of your land with a 30 percent grade is unusable but I have seen videos where people are grabbing dirt from upper pastures and pulling it down to level their land, making more usable land. That's something you could get your two sons to do with the new equipment.❤❤❤❤

Best way to get rid of large stumps. Drillminto them at least 8-10minches. Fill will olive / vegetable oil. They will be ready to be broken apart in about 6 months. Did this with major stumps an it was easy to do then.

Look in regenerative logging they leave the stumps in their dedicated 5 acre wood lot and let the trees regrow from the stumps especially the hard woods if you have maple trees there you can make maple syrup from it as you have a boiler furnace that would already be a fire to boil the sap down to syrup make a lot of $ and use sources you already have

Late fall, early winter is the best time to walk the forest except for deer hunters. I remember when my parents and us started clearing the two lots at Crosby. My dad was in his mid-30s and my mom was in her late 20's and I was about 7-8 and my brother was 5-6.

Mountain laurel you got a gold mine of bay leaf there.
Sometimes, old school out does the new fangled. Use it up, wear it out or do with out.
Whichever the way you do it, you are creating family legacy, happy memories to hand down through the generations.

One option that would’ve made things a little faster in my opinion just as fun was or would be to rent a forestry mulcher along with the bobcat that hooks up to you can easily take out 5 inch maybe up to 8 inch trees. Depending on how dense an acre or more a day.
